EVENT OVERVIEW Guests are invited to celebrate the engagement of
Kimber Wilson and Hunter James in the historic
distillery district of downtown Toronto. The night
will begin with a dusk arrival at the Boiler House
Loft. During cocktails, the theme of rustic elegance
will be apparent with the use of paradoxical
materials. Amongst wooden walls, satin and flax
burlap linens will be paired with birch various
metal table décor such as silver and rose gold. The
guests will be seated for a romantic plated dinner
under beautiful mood lighting and a sea of
hanging floral centerpieces. The room, though
very lush and bold, will not be overwhelming, as
the colour palette will remain neutral and light
with splashes of metallic dynamics balanced by
natural birch elements.
CLIENT PROFILE Kimber and Hunter are two professionals who live
and breathe the Toronto city life through both
work and play. Their relationship began with a
date among the beautiful cobblestone streets of
the downtown distillery district, so where better to
celebrate the promise of spending the rest of their
lives together, than the place where it all began.
Hunter grew up in a rural town north of the city,
so the artful uses of birch and wood materials are a
nod to a part of his personality and style that
remain in his world today. As a breast cancer
survivor, the colour pink resonates with Kimber
very deeply. The use of rose gold cutlery and vases
will provide a unique way of displaying her
connection to this colour without bringing
imbalance to the overall look and feel of the
design.

THEME The theme of this event as requested by the clients, is that of romance and rustic elegance. This will be attained by close attention to detail and a colour
theme of ivory, light beige, taupe as well as silver, bronze and rose gold metallic. A paradoxical theme will be emphasized by the way the satin & burlap
linens are custom draped with added frills of fabric at each corner and with the use of straw place mats, sparkly chargers, white china and rose gold cutlery.
There will be an intended asymmetry to compliment the theme of opposing materials. The hanging centrepieces will play with different heights with the use
of large balance scales and mixed crystal glassware will vary the site lines of each tablescape. Soft candle lighting and exquisite floral arrangements will
complete with newly engaged couples dream celebration.

VENUE The venue that Kimber and Hunter have chosen to celebrate their engagement at is a newly renovated area above the Distillery District called The Boiler
House Loft. The interior is very warm and inviting with it’s exposed wood walls and soft lighting. The wooden ceiling beams are reminiscent of a barn or
wine cellar, which plays well with the rustic elegance theme of the event. The Loft is perfect for an intimate gathering as it will comfortably seat 64 guests at
8 rectangular tables of 8 people. The raw space lends to the theme and design details of the décor will not be lost in this cozy atmosphere.

and natural look. The base of the centrepiece will be surrounded by two birch vases holding smaller arrangements of the flowers above. To top off the
romantic and elegant theme, candles will be scattered amongst the tables, in glass votives, bouncing soft light off of the surrounding metals.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER Krista Kulbach is an Event
Management student in the School of
Fashion at Seneca College. Her love of
design is being cultivated while
working towards furthering her skills in
a logistical capacity. Krista graduated
with a Bachelor of Arts from Wilfrid
Laurier University where she majored in communication
studies.
Country raised and city found, Krista was raised in the
suburbs of a small town surrounded by farmland where
the largest event that took place was the Sports Day
Country Fair. After throwing parties in barns, fields and
under the stars and with a yearbook full of comments
dedicated to her “epic parties” she made a promise to
herself to experience the big city life and expose herself to
new experiences. Krista moved to the concrete jungle of
downtown Toronto, where she was quick to adapt and
absorb all that the busy culture had to offer. Krista has
volunteered on a number of events in the city, including
Canada’s Walk of Fame, AIDSbeat, the ROM Centennial
gala and the upcoming Bloor Street Entertains. During the
school year Krista will be taking part in the annual
Inspired Spaces Table Top Competition, where she will be
featuring a unique table setting of an event that she has
fully planned and navigated. Guests are likely to see her
unique use of texture and material, which parallel her love
of country warmth and city chic.
Krista endeavors to incorporate balance, texture, colour,
and quality so that the project or event’s individuality
shines through. Her attention to detail and creative
approach align with the end goal of achieving any client’s
desired atmosphere, setting and space. She strives to take
every element of design away from the ordinary by using
opposing and paradoxical materials, inspired by her
colorful spectrum of life experiences. Krista’s intention
with event design is not only to create an aesthetically
appealing space, but to build a moment in time that will
engage all of the senses.
