.GGGIGIGdGIwith our world, the connections with those around us, our many languages. These weave

together in place and time to form intricate stories to which each of us contributes.

Architecture is one of the many vessels our culture offers for these expressions -

the spaces we pass through, dwell or work in, that offer us solitude or community,

introspection or exhibition, that allow us to grieve or revel in joy.

By exploring questions of urbanism, community, ownership, passing time, the collision

of cultures or artistic mediums, everyday or transformative experiences, I hope to

add to that global conversation about what we are and what we can be. I look with

enthusiasm to the future and the story our work now will tell.

Bunny Friend Neighborhood Center | New Orleans, Louisiana

Winter 2010

The citizens of New Orleans’ Upper Ninth

Ward are strong, determined and clear

Idto bring it back even stronger than it

was before Katrina ripped it apart. The

Neighborhood Center, located across

from the local park, provides classrooms,

meeting space and performance space

GH9IGH9Gbuilding. A large deck raises the structure

off the ground, creating a porch and a

stage for all ages to enjoy; two lower

level volumes are bridged by a second

story volume, crafting shade and safety.

At the intersection of these volumes

G99create a landmark. Textures and light

play throughout the year through the

modern incorporation of vernacular details

including roof pitches, the strata of

hurricane shutters abstracted in the outer

envelope’s louvers and vibrant colors in

Lightning Car Gallery | Savannah, Georgia

Spring 2010

Inspired by the speed and motion of the

Lightning electric sports car, this gallery

makes an uncompromising statement.

Within the historic context of Savannah,

such architecture may seem strange, but

this project asserts that the contrast

GHGI:)beneath the live oaks alongside one of

the city’s famous squares, the gallery’s

draped Corian envelope takes on a

lustrous quality, inviting passersby into

the dramatic sunken showroom. Much

more than a dealership, the showroom

GHHHbecoming a gallery, performance or event

space or exhibition hall. The skin is draped

over a rigid steel frame structure and

9IG9IIGn:(Ithe innovative engine of the car peeks

out from behind the spokes of the wheel,

the structure reveals itself in glimpses

from behind the skin and the interiors

are revealed in glimpses from within the

dynamic exterior.

Austin City Lofts | Austin, Texas

Fall 2010

Austin, Texas is a city known for learning,

creating, embracing the weird, living

vibrantly, This mixed-use project on

the city’s west side fronts 6th street,

the hub of Austin’s nightlife, and Shoal

Creek, a recreational trail. By introducing

a plaza that fronts the creek, retail and

dining areas on the lower levels gain

valuable outdoor space while offering

neighbors vibrant public gathering. The

one, two and three bedroom units above

GGGGG9GIGIG:.arrangement crafts street-like circulation

paths, encouraging neighbor interaction,

while allotting both private and public

outdoor space. Light, air and views are

each carefully considered through a

system of louvers, shutters and shades

altered throughout the day and year.

These introduce an effect of blooming

color and texture, tracing patterns of time

for resident and community alike.

Commissioned by an international, multi-

media corporation, this project explored

the creation of a new urban development.

This project was a collaboration between

myself, Jerome Elder, Emily Fuller and

Ankit Mohabansi. In this new city, mixed-

use zones, a dense city grid, and a

variety of green spaces create the sense

of an old city structure. Of the utmost

value is chance, chaos, and spontaneity.

These occurrences between all kinds of

users create a rich, urban experience.

Explorations included in-depth user

analysis, study of city structure and

systems including transportation, waste

management, ecology and education.

As team manager, I was responsible

for organization of all team members

and overseeing team communications

including digital client presentations,

printed and written class materials,

physical site model, and three booklets.

Both an academic and public library, the

new library for the New City project

explored the future of the library as a

forward-thinking, social, community

space. The project was a collaboration

with interior designer Riki Zhou.

This library was inspired by the

social relationships of city to library

and between patrons. Wrapped and

staggered sections allowed for optimal

climate response and engaging vertical

relationships. Innovative programmatic

considerations - including video chatting

rooms, art gallery, coffee shop, and

HGI¢GHpatrons and staff alike. A dramatic angled

atrium cuts through the center of the

museum, connecting programs visually

with a green wall. The roof is planted as

well, and the tendrils are allowed to climb

down the facade’s outer skin of punched

metal panels. A palette of light, shadow,

perforation, and texture speaks about

transparency and vibrancy.

./HG-IGd(GGI==;;9represents a radical approach to sea level

rise and urbanism in South Florida. This

project was a collaboration with Leslie

Ayers and was submitted to the 2012

Evolo Skyscraper Competition.

Drawing inspiration equally from science

IGIGG!GnGAmericans, the Scraper proposes

removing the erosion-causing and banal

hotels along a three-mile stretch beach.

The rubble then piles up into “modern

middens”, creating refuge from the ocean

and habitat for sea life while returning the

coast to its natural condition.

From these middens rises The Scraper;

each of the towers grows and then

connects to the others over a long period

of time in a structural concept mimicking

coral growth. Layers of structure, skin

and circulation create a complex urban

condition. Program also evolves over

time, allowing the Scraper to begin as a

marina and tourism facility and become a

fully mixed-use vertical city in 200 years.

of place for this craft and therefore for

This research has been conducted

through traditional academic sources and

personal interviews. Additionally, I am

Site for this exploration is in Austin,
