house on the edge

The object of my bachelor thesis work is an urban and architectural design for a plot on the edge of the historic centre and housing estate in Vlasske Mezirici. Solved location is near the intersection of two main roads, which are kept in place of the original city walls. The aim of the designed proposal is viable urban fabric and a functional use, which evaluates and develops the character of a given locality. Urban, architectural concept built over the place, should be based on loca-tion within the historic city centre with a positive connection to the main artery of the city. The plot is nowadays used as a car park for a city centre and the task is to keep the capacity of parking places on the same level at least and find a suitable and required usage for the given locality. The concept of a functional approach should reflect the requirements of the individual functions (especially housing - sun, light, noise pollution).

Analytic work, cooperation with specialists, review my ideas with my mentor and other students this all affected the final design, but I al-ways worked with a strategy to support my original concept. The wall behind which is qualitatively different world.

Designed volumes accommodate art school with all specific spaces like a concert hall, dancing hall, rehearsal rooms, individual classrooms and so one, underground parking, shops and quite luxury flats.

From the busy traffic on the south we feel the “block” as a monu-mental concrete wall with no windows. This wall devides the city into the downtown and its surrounding. Connects these two parts through a single passage leading to the “inner world” of the pulsing city. The block is further divided into the individual volumes by narrow “canyons” that allow access to these volumes. Moreover these volumes define an open space in their middle - small plaza into which all the buildings are oriented.

the respect house

Live and let live, grow and let grow. House, which respects others while commands respect itself.....

Countryside has specific features of formation depending on natural conditions primarily. Houses located in mountains are spreaded exten-sively while in fertile lowlands are houses clustered very closely to keep the most existentially important and irreplaceable – soil that nourishes people.

The “respect house” plot is located on the eastern tip of the North Bohemia village called Koleč. This is the place where the fields and forests remain what they were for centuries. Where just very slowly and a somewhat inappropriately today’s homes are built. Regardless of the place atmosphere and the gorgeous floodplain valley specific characteristics.

Proposed house responds to the plot, which is due to agricultural activity decreased to its natural boundaries. The building is accessible on the same level as a local road and we can see it as a cape. It has its own identity, while respecting the identity of the neighbourhood. Its residents lives are lived on the wooden pier. The world around them changes in accordance with the four seasons – demonstratively under the windows of the house in the increasingly cultivated soil.

askö center neu graz

In the international competition for the extension of the sports center in Graz the main task was to fit quite wide typological program on the limited site. Our proposal was one of daring ones and moreover solved well all the required parameters.

The main idea was to put all the facilities into the roof of a multi-purpose sports hall. The proposed building is opened to the public as much as possible and is designed as very light and clear. The walls are in the groundfloor transparent and so allow passers-by to see into the building and throughout the building what is happening in the hall and at the athletic stadium which is located behind the hall.

We used every squared meter, to achieve maximum usage in a minimal built-up volume. And so at the end this project offered to inhabitants of Graz more than was required. We reserved more space especially for a people who are not members of any professional sports teams but who want to live active and from time to time to do something for their health.

The used material - netting around the building and glass - should rep-resent a new view on human health. Health which is there projected to the world as something cool. Health which in the 21st century depends primarily on life style and on psychological well-being - in a healthy body healthy mind.

meetingpoin <4> sandberg

When I looked down the hill I got lost in the infinite. The scenery which I was allowed to see was charming. The colourful raster of fields, the widely dispersed forest, the beautifull curves of small hills behind me and the majestic river runnig to its disappearance. An area without any beginning, any end, without barriers...

But the reality is much more different than it seems to be. The area of Děvínská Nová Ves is a dividing line as far as geographic, climatic, culturally- social and economically- political conditions are concerned. We donť feel a border as a place of division, but conversely, as a point of coalition, a place which is fixed on the first two pylones- a meeting point. There the past and the present meet each other, naturally cre-ated shapes confront human forms, a horizontal line crosses a vertical line, water encounters the ground and the air… It is also a point where our two different architectural expressions overlap, because although each of us is from “a different planet”, we achieved mutual agreement. The wooden walkway and the staircaise to the river reflect a women‘s sensitivity. Their form is inspired by a flow of winding river, a profile of contour lines and the territorial topography. They invite one to relax and rest and represent the direct connection with the Morava river, independently of its oscilating level. The platform built on the pylones, which is linked to the reconversed cableway, coincides with man racion-ality and definitive directions of an urban environment. The cableway urges to visit the Sandberg hill, because the view from this place and its prehistoric context have an eternal quality.

All the constructions are simple, placed on the existing pylones or de-signed wooden piles, to resist the vagaries of nature and also eliminate the disruption of the valuable alluvial forest as much as possible. We conserve the floral wealth in its authentic variety to allow any con-temporary citified person to taste wildlife untouched by a human being, wildlife without barriers…

glasgow/brno centrum arts

It is difficult to predict whereto human efforts will be directed and what our needs will be in the future. But my opinion is that the tempo of our lives will continue to increase as before. Our future will be based on the impermanent things. Therefore, I created architectural structure which we can easily apply to almost any plot. This structure doesn’t need to have fixed foundations, it is portable and in its sub-stance fundamentally evokes movement.

My solution responds to the absence of empty plots in downtowns and to the theme of urban-sprawl. In this project is specifically solved Brno as a city with these problems. I tried to find a way to use the space as effective as possible and achieve a high density of habitation in a place which could be very attractive for young people especially because of its location in a centre. My building is accordingly built on a plot already built-up. I decided to increase the high of the building which is in a very busy and important area and placed my volume on its roof.

The proposed building is a complex of the clean shape volumes that communicate with each other by external staircases. I have reserved the lowest floor for a work and art. There should be situated studios of a young artists who can gain experience, establish a company, co-operate with each other and so expand their horizons in other artistic fields. People passing through the created arcades have an oportunity to see in a shop window how they work.

The structure is made up of discarded shipping containers of length 6m which are adapted for the need of housing. Corten containers are directly exposed to the outside and thus complete the industrial char-acter of the place.
