Many visitors don’t perceive that the nature in the Giant Mountains is in a state of serious endangerment. Paradoxically, while prestigious international institutions (Dutch foundation FACE, European Union, UNECSO, The World Bank) help to rescue the valuable nature of the Giant Mountains, we ourselves continually destroy it. The worst menaces of today are not only pollutants but also unregulated invasion of tourism. You can also contribute to this effort to preserve the nature of the Giant Mountains for future generations by following the visitor regulations of the parks, signs and information boards.

This region has a long and eventful history. No wonder it abounds with objects and places of interest: castle ruins, beautifully restored renaissance palaces, baroque churches, manors, arcade market squares, Krkonose Mountains wooden houses, look-out towers and military facilities from the 1940s. In addition, a number of museums provide information about the region's history, handicraft and nature. There's something for everyone.

All of the region's cities and villages have a long history. They all seen rulers, political systems and different population groups come and go.You'll find cities with beautiful arcade market squares and mansions, moutain resort towns and - exclusive to this region - widespread settlements of mountain lodges. Most of the municipalities have also German names, which, however, aren't used anymore due to the expulsion of the Sudeten Germans following WWII.
