Show of hands…

Who is here today and why?

Are you…

● New to the Hyperion tool set?

● A knowledgeable Hyperion user, but new to Smart View?

● Loyal “Excel Spreadsheet Add-In” user?

#Kscope

What is Smart View?

Smart View is a component of

Oracle Hyperion Foundation

Services

Smart View is an Oracle

Hyperion Add-in for the

Microsoft Office suite (Excel,

PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)

Smart View is an end user tool

that allows you to pull/query

data from an underlying

Essbase database

Page 10: KSCOPE12 Getting Started Oracle Hyperion Smart View.6!28!12.Final(1)

#Kscope

Why use it?

Smart View provides a

common and familiar

Microsoft Office interface,

designed specifically for

Oracle's EPM and BI

applications

Smart View allows you to

analyze and prepare data while

maintaining security from the

underlying databases

Feature functionality

#Kscope

Smart View vs. Excel Add-In

Excel Add-In

• Ad Hoc Analysis

Smart View

• Ad Hoc Analysis

• MS Office Integration

• Planning Forms

• Smart Slices

When it comes to EPM analytics…

● Are you a caveman, like Chuck?

● Are you a superman, like Jonathan?

Page 12: KSCOPE12 Getting Started Oracle Hyperion Smart View.6!28!12.Final(1)

#Kscope

Additional Motivation

Retirement of Excel Spreadsheet Client?

Really? Are these rumors?

● After of January 1, 2013, Oracle Essbase Spreadsheet Add-in will no longer be available for general distribution with new releases of Oracle Essbase

● Releases prior January 1, 2013 should be considered a terminal release for Essbase Spreadsheet Add-in and customers should make preparations to migrate to Oracle Hyperion Smart View for Office

Regardless of the ‘when’…

The Excel Add-In is due to be retired in the

near future.

Ad Hoc Analysis…

Page 16: KSCOPE12 Getting Started Oracle Hyperion Smart View.6!28!12.Final(1)

#Kscope

Bill doesn’t have any pre-existing reports built to access this

information, but he knows that Smart View is the best way to

find information via “ad hoc” access in Excel!

Bill is a Financial Analyst at a

reputable Boston based beverage

company

Bill wants to compare the monthly

‘cost of goods sold’ and ‘revenue’

for Q1 across each of his products

Case Study & Features

Page 17: KSCOPE12 Getting Started Oracle Hyperion Smart View.6!28!12.Final(1)

#Kscope

Bill creates an ad-hoc retrieval in Excel by following these steps…

Bill starts by opening an Ad-Hoc

retrieval in Smart View Excel

The ad hoc default grid contains

the period in the column and the

object in the row

The point-of-view dialog box

enables the user to select

additional dimensions

Case Study & Features

Page 18: KSCOPE12 Getting Started Oracle Hyperion Smart View.6!28!12.Final(1)

#Kscope

Next….

Dimensions can be expanded,

collapsed, kept, and removed

using menu options and “clicks”

Dimensions can be moved by

dragging dimensions from the

point-of-view to the Excel sheet

Dimensions can be selected from

the point-of-view and can be

applied to the entire sheet

Page 19: KSCOPE12 Getting Started Oracle Hyperion Smart View.6!28!12.Final(1)

#Kscope

Now, Bill compares the monthly cost of goods sold and revenue for Q1.

Case Study & Features

Page 20: KSCOPE12 Getting Started Oracle Hyperion Smart View.6!28!12.Final(1)

#Kscope

He realizes that one of the numbers doesn’t look correct!

Wow, that

doesn’t

look right!

Case Study & Features

Page 21: KSCOPE12 Getting Started Oracle Hyperion Smart View.6!28!12.Final(1)

#Kscope

Bill noted the discrepancy, and does some research to discover the

correct total cost of goods sold (it should have been $102,000

instead of $10,200!)

Bill submits the correct data back to Essbase

Case Study & Features

Page 22: KSCOPE12 Getting Started Oracle Hyperion Smart View.6!28!12.Final(1)

#Kscope

Smart View contains a “submit data function” (similar to

the “lock and send” function in the Excel Add-In)

Smart View also contains other ad hoc features…

(Pivot, Refresh All, Keep, Remove, Zoom)

Case Study & Features

Page 23: KSCOPE12 Getting Started Oracle Hyperion Smart View.6!28!12.Final(1)

#Kscope

Features: Display Options

Page 24: KSCOPE12 Getting Started Oracle Hyperion Smart View.6!28!12.Final(1)

#Kscope

Features: Ad Hoc Templates

After building a report, save the

report as an Excel document ● This allows you to use the same

dimensions in a report later on

● You can save additional copies to

further modify and create new reports

User security restricts the user

to only see the data that they

should see

#Kscope

Back with Bill….

Hyperion Planning is easily accessed in Excel using Smart View

Content accessed via Planning web forms is also available in

Microsoft Excel via Smart View

The overall functionality is the same as the web-based forms

(update data, save data, calculate, aggregate)

Excel Web Forms allow for ease and flexibility

Copy and paste options are available

Saves and opens just like an Excel file

Page 28: KSCOPE12 Getting Started Oracle Hyperion Smart View.6!28!12.Final(1)

#Kscope

Back with Bill….

Bill wants to help the Marketing team use Hyperion Planning

Recently, the marketing team was

asked to forecast costs in Hyperion

Planning

The team was resistant to the

unfamiliar environment of Planning,

but Bill knows that their marketing

team is very comfortable utilizing

Excel – so he decides to show them

Planning through Smart View/Excel

Page 32: KSCOPE12 Getting Started Oracle Hyperion Smart View.6!28!12.Final(1)

#Kscope

You can use Excel tabs to open multiple forms and keep all forms together in a single workbook

If you use Smart View ad-hoc, you can have a report on one worksheet and a web form on a second sheet

Tips with Smart View in Excel

Page 33: KSCOPE12 Getting Started Oracle Hyperion Smart View.6!28!12.Final(1)

#Kscope

Smart Slices

Page 34: KSCOPE12 Getting Started Oracle Hyperion Smart View.6!28!12.Final(1)

#Kscope

Bill wants to create a reusable subset of data. Specifically, Bill wants to…

Access the ‘cost of goods sold’ and ‘revenue’

from his prior ad-hoc retrieval

Select different scenarios and markets, without

having to recreate the grid

Allow others to be able to access the same data

Bill knows that “Smart Slices” are the answer!

Back with Bill…. Smart Slices

Page 35: KSCOPE12 Getting Started Oracle Hyperion Smart View.6!28!12.Final(1)

#Kscope

What are Smart Slices

Smart Slices create specific data “views” that are saved

on the server

They restrict users to a subset of the available data

Page 36: KSCOPE12 Getting Started Oracle Hyperion Smart View.6!28!12.Final(1)

#Kscope

Creating a Smart Slice

Create a Smart

Slice

Page 37: KSCOPE12 Getting Started Oracle Hyperion Smart View.6!28!12.Final(1)

#Kscope

Creating a Smart Slice continued…

Create the grid

Specify your

dimensions here.

Page 38: KSCOPE12 Getting Started Oracle Hyperion Smart View.6!28!12.Final(1)

#Kscope

Saving Smart Slices

Now save your Smart

Slice to the server.

#Kscope

Additional Smart Slice Features

Smart Slice ‘Report Designer’

allows you to create charts,

sliders, and graphical

representations of the data

Smart Slices are created and

available like all other data

sources

Data security is carried through

Smart Slices

#Kscope

Back with Bill….Microsoft PowerPoint

You guessed it… Bill wants to use the results from his earlier ad-hoc retrieval in a PowerPoint presentation for his manager

He wants to create charts and graphs

based on the ad-hoc retrieval results

He wants to be able to access this

PowerPoint each quarter for each

market, and to update the data

accordingly
