How did the Civil Rights Movement work?People held marches, boycotts, and sit-ins.

MarchesPeople got together and led a long parade through the streets

in order to protest. They wanted to bring attention to injustice (things that were

wrong). For example, blacks and whites could not play together, go to school

together, eat in the same restaurant, or have the same jobs.

Sit-insSometimes, black people would go and sit

down in a restaurant

where the people refused to serve them.

The police would be

called. Many people went to jail because

they stood up for what was right.
