Gundu Sudha Rani, Hanamakonda MLA SriDasyam Vinay Bhaskar. The first Endowment Lecture in memory of Telangana ideologue lateDr. K. Jayashankar was organized to mark his 79th birth anniversary on August6, 2013. Prof. G. Haragopal, Social Scientist and ICSSR National Fellow spokeon "Vision of a New Telangana." University Vice-Chancellor Prof. B. VenkatRathnam presided over the programme. Speaking on the occasion, Prof.Haragopal said that freedom of thought, expression and freedom from suppressionshould be the basic traits in separate Telangana State. All through his life Dr.Jayashankar has revered freedom, hence modeling the state on those lines wouldbe an act of honour to him. The government should adopt an economic modelwhere agriculture would be given priority to create employment opportunities.Prof. Haragopal listed out priority sectors like agriculture, health, education andindustry and suggested to strengthen them. There should be humane growth, headded. He found fault with the demand of making Hyderabad a Union Territoryand felt that it would not benefit any one but will lead to further troubles.University Vice-Chancellor Prof. B. Venkat Rathnam highlighted the contributionsmade by Dr. Jayashankar as an academician and statehood ideologue. He describedDr. Jayashankar as a visionary of Telangana. Registrar Prof. K. OrientationProgramme forB.Tech. I Yearstudents

A One Day Orientation Programme for the newly admitted B. Tech. I Students

of KU College of Engineering & Technology was organized on September 30, 2013 in

the Senate Hall of the University. Parents of the students were invited to take part in the

programme. University Vice-Chancellor Prof. B. Venkat Rathnam inaugurated the

programme as Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, he said that Engineering education

is a turning point and advised the students to set their goals and work hard to achieve

them. He promised that all necessary facilities would be offered to the students. Dr.

R.S. Pravin Kumar, Secretary, A.P. Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions

Society (APSWREIS) speaking to the students as Guest of Honour emphasized the

importance of computer, communication and soft skills and advised them to develop

them. Due to lack of these skills, only 13 per cent of Engineering graduates are securing

jobs though they have merit in their studies. Students should also participate in social

activities apart from studies, he added. Seniors should not resort to ragging but guide

the juniors properly. One must try to think independently instead of imitating others.

Dr. Pravin Kumar also advised the parents not to impose their interests on the wards

causing mental stress. University Registrar Prof. K. Sayulu said that youth force is the

richest asset of our nation and they are the future of the nation. Principal Dr. L.P. Raj

The fourth Endowment Lecture in memory of Human Rights Crusader for JustSociety Dr. K. Balagopal was held at Kakatiya University on 8th October, 2013 in theSenate Hall. Professor in Centre for Political Studies of New Delhi, JNU, Dr. GopalGuru delivered the lecture on "Who is a Dalit?: An Enquiry into Social Discourse." Dalitis not a caste related term but a sociologically constituted one, Dr. Gopal Guru said.People not only subjected to social injustice but also those who are fighting against it inthe process of rectification are dalits, he asserted. It is a term associated with practice ratherthan birth. In this aspect Dr. Balagopal is a true Dalit, he said. Balgopal wrote, spoke andpracticed social justice throughout his life, he said. He took the side of downtrodden andupheld social justice and freedom. Dalit could be understood based on two criteria - truthand meaning. A capitalist can never be a dalit since he exploits his own brothers, he said.Making a comparison, he said that Scheduled Caste is a term constituted by the state anddisciplined by the state while Harijan comes under patronizing category. The bookentitled "Reservation lo Prajaswamya Drukpatham" - a collection of Telugu articles of Dr.K. Balagopal was released. University Vice-Chancellor Prof. B. Venkat Rathnam advisedthe students to emulate Dr. Balagopal. Dr. Haragopal said that Hyderabad Perspectivespublished forty nine books to propagate the ideology of Dr. Balagopal. Prof. V.S. Sri B. Prasada Rao, Director General of Police, Andhra Pradesh inaugurated

the "University Free Counseling Centre" on January 18, 2014 in Kakatiya University

in the presence of University Vice-Chancellor Prof. B. Venkat Rathnam. This centre

works under the aegis of Department of Psychology, KU to render free counselling to

the students with regard to their psychological issues. Speaking on the occasion, Sri

Prasada Rao advised the University to take necessary steps to build confidence in the

students to meet the job market. Since most of the students come from rural areas,

they should be trained in Computer, Communication and Soft Skills. He also pointed

out that most of the students fall short of the expectations of the companies with

National Seminaron "Deccan Statesand their relationswith Iran"

The Department of History and Tourism Management of the University has

organized at two day National Seminar on "Deccan States and their relations with Iran

(Diplomatic, Economic and Cultural) during 16th - 18th Century" from November 29-

30, 2013. Mr. Mehdi Hassankhani, Cultural Attache of Consulate General of I.R. of Iran

in Mumbai and Director of Culture House of the I.R. of Iran, Mumbai, inaugurated the

Seminar as Chief Guest while University Vice-Chancellor Prof. B. Venkat Rathnam presided

over it. Mr. Mehdi Hassankhani said that there were strong relations between Deccan

and Iran during 16-18th centuries. Trade flourished during this period and people migrated

from Iran and settled in Deccan. He felt the need for comprehensive research in this field.

Dr. Ishrath Alam, Director of Advanced Studies in History said that Deccan Sultans played

an important role for development of cultural, economic and trade relations with Iran.

Osmania University former Vice-Chancellor Prof. Suleman Siddique said that there is

abundant Persian Literature to explore the relations between the two nations. University

Vice-Chancellor Prof. B. Venkat Rathnam said that there are 50 students from Iran now

A two day National Seminar on "JashuaSahitya Thathvam - Samakaleena Drukpatham"was organized jointly by the Telugu Academyand Kakatiya University Telugu Department washeld on October 25-56, 2013 at KakatiyaUniversity. Addressing the seminar as ChiefGuest, the University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. B.Venkat Rathnam said that the subject of hispoetry was humanity and rationalism. Hispoetry was full of humanist values underliningthe importance of social equality and universaloutlook. His ideology is still relevant in the

present day and it is high time that it is spread across the country. He felt the need totranslate his works into all Indian languages. Telugu Academy Director Prof. K. Prof. B. Venkat Rathnam, Vice-Chancellor of theUniversity inaugurated the University College of PhysicalEducation in Khammam on December 23, 2013. Speakingon the occasion as Chief Guest, he said that the collegewas established in view of the demand for the physicaleducation course in the region.
