May and June are the perfect time to start getting more active
Do you have a plan? Set a small manageable goal to get started in the next week and keep track. Dancing, pow wows, hiking, picking plants, herbs and berries, gardening, swimming, walks, biking, sports, baseball, golf…Track your progress for 3 weeks! Pick something you enjoy, in-vite a friend/partner to join you. Write down the goal and stick it on your fridge door, make it a challenge with co-workers or friends.

Gas Station Project Update
We are now waiting for Telus to com-plete their portion of work in relocating the fibre box and all underground wir-ing to the South of the construction site so that we can build the entrance road.
The concrete pads have been poured for the unloading area, fuel storage tank and the dispensaries.
We are waiting for on-site delivery of the storage tank and dispensers.
We have ordered a second computer and POS station from Info-Net Tech-nologies. This software will coordinate pay at the pump and tax exempt fuel and tobacco. It also provides our busi-ness a back-up computer, a second computer for inventory management and for extremely busy times at the store.
We are slowly moving items from our existing store into the new store, stor-age shelving, desks and files as we slowly move into our new space.
Construction is now moving quickly and we hope to nail down a grand opening date in the coming weeks so stay tuned!
We have officially on-boarded Melissa Teneese as a part-time retail associate, please welcome Melissa to our team the next time you see her!
We are lining up a local Ktunaxa artist to complete some artwork on the interi-or of the store.

ʔaq̓am Land Code
ʔaq̓am has been Operational under Land Code for nearly 4 years. The Lands Department is hosting an information session – please bring any Land Code related questions to us at the Arbour, Thursday June 28th from 3-5:30. There will be gift card door prizes and food, we hope to see you there.
For the past few weeks, Nupqu crews have been cutting firewood from burned timber within the boundary of the wildfire area on Reserve Lands. There is a mix of tree species but most of the firewood is Yellow pine (also known as Bull pine, Ponderosa pine) and Douglas Fir. Although both types burn well in fireplaces, Yellow pine is very ‘pitchy’ and tends to fill stove pipes with a tarry coating that can cause dangerous chimney fires.
Community members are welcome to access the cut firewood from the piles around the burn area, but for the reason above are asked to please use Yellow Pine in fire pits and not stoves. If community members are look-ing for stove wood there is some Fir and Lodge pole pine amongst the firewood piles. It is offered on a first-come-first-served basis, keeping in mind that elders may be in greatest need. In addition, we have ordered dry firewood loads to be trucked in as soon as it becomes available from log-ging operations in the district. The dry firewood loads will all be species that you can burn in woodstoves.
If you have any questions or for further information please contact Julie Couse at [email protected] or 250-426-5717 ext. 3531
Land Code Factoid

The Goats Are Coming Back!!
Please join us in welcoming back Conrad Lindblom and his Weed Eating
Goats!! They are returning for June and July. 2018 marks the fourth year
of having the goats graze on ʔaq̓am lands. The goats do targeted feeding
on invasive plant species (weeds) such as Sulphur Cinquefoil, Spotted
Knapweed and Dalmatian Toadflax. This technique follows our holistic
way of taking care of the land, and natural law ʔaȼnumuȼtiⱡiⱡ
Can anybody visit the goats? Conrad is more than happy to show his little kids off. For most of their stay, they will be penned up in the same location as last year, just south of Tipi Mtn. Plant Nursery.
