Term 4 Week 10, 18 December 2018 From the Principal
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year This is the last and perhaps shortest newsletter for 2018. On behalf of the staff of Kurrajong Public School I would like to wish all families a safe and restful festive season. We look forward to another fantastic year in 2019. On Wednesday, we say goodbye to our Year 6 students and some families (the ones who will no longer have students at our school). We hope they take away many fond memories of their time at Kurrajong Public School, and we wish them and their children all the very best for the future. These families have supported the school over many years and we thank them for their assistance. We will miss you! To all of the Year 6 students, we say goodbye and good luck in high school. To the families and students who are moving to new areas and schools for next year, we also say goodbye, good luck and thank you for all of your efforts and support during your years at Kurrajong Public School. Thank you to the Kurrajong Public School P&C for their tireless efforts organising the many functions and fundraising events during the year.
Thank you to the amazing Mrs Robyn McGowan who leaves Kurrajong this year to retire to the central coast. Mrs McGowan has been quite the fixture at our school over the past 30 years. Robyn is well loved and highly thought of at our school and I’m sure you will join me in wishing her all the very best in her retirement. To the families who are returning to Kurrajong Public School in 2019, we look forward to working with you next year and we also thank you for your wonderful contribution to our school during 2018. The number of parents willing to volunteer their time to assist the school is overwhelming.
School will resume on Wednesday 30 January for students in Years 1-6. 2019
Kindergarten students will attend Best Start interviews on Wednesday 30 January – Friday
2 February and then commence their ‘real’ school on Monday 4 February.
Staff and Class Structures 2019 During the last few weeks, teachers have been completing the lengthy job of looking at
classes and student placements for 2019. Many aspects of a student’s placement are
taken into consideration, to carefully place every child. The teachers possess information
on each student’s academic ability, reading levels, mathematics ability, NAPLAN results
and emotional and social needs. Student friendship groups are taken into consideration
as well. Possible friendship groups are one consideration in the placement, however, it is
viewed in terms of ‘learning buddies’ not necessarily ‘social buddies’. While having a
special friend is important, I remind everyone that this is a class group for learning.

Quality education in a caring environment
Resilience Respect Responsibility Excellence
As you can see, this is a very thorough process that involves considerable time, sensitivity and care. This is, however, not a process
about one child. Every child is important. All children are given consideration. Every child is placed in reference to a bigger plan of how
students, classes and teachers come together for optimal learning. I thank all of our teachers, support staff, students and families for
their input and support of this critical process.
Stage 3 (5/6) - Miss Cafiero, Mrs Sidis & Mrs Cormack (led by Miss Cafiero)

Miss Bernacki will be taking a year of leave.
Please remember, these may be temporary class allocations.
Wednesday 30 January 2019
For the first day back next year, the procedures outlined below will be followed. All students will assemble in the usual area for morning assembly, when the 9:15am bell rings. Students will then return to their 2018 classrooms after the assembly. 2018 Kindergarten students will be taken to the 6B classroom. The students will spend part of the morning session in their 2018 classroom. New students starting at Kurrajong Public School will need to go to the office to be taken to a classroom. When all rolls have been completed, the children will be taken to the hall to be placed into their classes for 2019. We would appreciate parents departing the school in the usual manner. This can often be a nervous time for students and parents. Past experience indicates that if parents are present, the anxiety that children may be experiencing is often heightened. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Presentation Assembly
Thank you to all of the parents and community members for attending our annual presentation assembly. The assembly was very successful and it was great to celebrate so many wonderful student achievements, as well as the many fantastic events of 2018. Well done to the students for their tremendous efforts during 2018. Thank you to Mrs Franks and Mrs Stapleton for doing a wonderful job organising the assembly. Congratulations also to Mr Hurley and our school band which sounded magnificent at the assembly. Well done to all involved!
Miss Cafiero and Mrs Wood and their students for organising the Mini Fair. Mrs Franks and Mrs Stapleton for coordinating the school Presentation Day. Mrs Barwick, Mrs Sidis and the Kurrajong Public School staff for organising the Parent Helper Morning Tea. To the staff of Kurrajong Public School for their amazing efforts during the year. To the students of Kurrajong Public School who have worked incredibly hard during 2018. To the Kurrajong community for your fantastic support of all of our school programs in 2018. Have a wonderful Christmas break and we will see you in 2019.
