New KUSU Officer Roles
Role Descriptions
Please take this as applying to all 4 roles, as would be the same for all of them but duplicated 4 times with the different titles and campus mentioned each time – I am using Kingston Hill here as an example.
Campus Officer
The 4 full-time elected roles within KUSU split into 2 main parts; your role as the lead representative for your own campus, and your role supporting the wider work of KUSU as part of a team with the other full-time officers, supported by the KUSU staff team.
Campus Specific Role
To be the lead representative of students on your campus. To spend 2 days per week based at your campus and to make sure all KUSU
opportunities are publicised and available to those students. Provide a link between the students you represent, and the wider activities and
democratic structures of KUSU. Support students to run student-led and University events that are relevant to the
needs of Kingston Hill students. Lead on campaigns relevant to the students on your campus. To be the lead education officer for your campus, including by ensuring the
development of the course rep system on your campus, supporting reps to contribute to relevant committees and leading education campaigns.
To be the lead welfare officer for Kingston Hill students, including by acting as the first port-of-call for student welfare enquiries and signposting, working closely with relevant University departments and representing students in formal hearings within the University.
In addition to this, you will have wider responsibilities for KUSU as a whole, as part of the full-time officer team and as a Trustee of the union. These responsibilities will be allocated in discussion with whole team with an effort made to take your interests and skills into account (though some compromise will be needed). Many of these areas will require joint work but they each need a lead officer. The areas where each officer leads will be split evenly within the team.
All officers will be responsible for working together to:
Operate as a cohesive, coherent and effective full-time officer team. Taking a full part in KUSU wide decision making through exec, trustee board and
General Meetings.
Your role will also include lead responsibility in one of the following areas:
Union Affairs: Work closely with the KUSU staff team to ensure a good service for students.
University Affairs: To be the lead officer for taking student feedback to the University.
External Affairs: To be the lead officer for all campaigns that impact on the lives of students beyond the University.
Community Affairs: To be the main KUSU link point for developing community relations and representing students in the local community.
