I have always had an attachment to the Power Rangers series. It is very nostalgic for me. In the

industry, I want to work with children’s entertainment so I can help inspire and educate

kids through story telling. Working with this specific franchise would be a dream come true.

Discovering the Nickelodeon Writing Program Internship opportunity was like hitting the jackpot. For an entry level position, this will definitely help me reach my ultimate goal of

working for the Power Rangers series. Not only would this provide me with extensive hands-on knowledge of working in the

industry, but considering that the new Power Rangers Megaforce series is aired on Nickelodeon and they give interns the opportunity to write a spec script for a show that is

currently on-air: this internship was made for me.The job description also openly states that numerous networking activities can (and will) be available with creators, writers, story editors, and other company employees. As we know, networking is a crucial part of this field. Being able to build relationships with professionals

already working on the show that I am determined to be a part of would give me a great advantage to break into that position down the road.

Literary Techniques and Story DevelopmentMonth 7

This course will be beneficial, because it is always important to know and understand the basics of something you are doing if you want to be proficient at it. If you don’t understand the elements of what makes a great story, how do you expect to write one yourself?Often times, I think the basics are overlooked. It isn’t a bad thing to stop, relearn, and refresh the tried and true every once in a while.

Visual Thinking and WritingMonth 4

Many people don’t realize how different writing novels and writing for the screen really are! There are like two opposite sides of the spectrum; being verbally descriptive and being visually descriptive are two completely different skill sets.

Personally, I feel that my specialty is dialogue. So, it will be beneficial to start getting my mind into the visual thinking ideology to better improve my scripts. Then, it’s off to screenplay writing!

Literary Genre III: Science Fiction & FantasyMonth 13

With the inclusion of super powers and extraterrestrial villains, Power Rangers could easily fall under the Fantasy genre of literature. Thus, being able to successfully integrate common Fantasy writing techniques into my scripts will be a great tool and resource.

On a side note, not only do I think this will be extremely beneficial for my long term goals, but I love these two genres so much that I can’t help but think of how much fun this class is going to be!

Children’s EntertainmentMonth 13

Words can not express how excited I am for this class, other than how incredibly relevant this course will be for my personal goals.

Clearly, Power Rangers is a children’s show. So understanding the fundamentals behind a script targeted for young audiences is going to be crucial to my success in my dream’s pursuit.

Scriptwriting TechniquesMonth 9

This course will be beneficial, because I have yet to learn how to properly format a script or screenplay. Obviously, as I go on in the industry, following proper formats is essential to getting my works viewed as professional, and thus even considered during pitches or as submissions.
