change is in The air
Voice oF The coMMUniTY For ThirTY Years
It all began in a small miner’s shack on Banner Mountain in 1978. From the first broadcast
at just 20 watts, four hours a day, KVMR has grown to 6,000 watts, twenty-four hours a day.
With listener support and a volunteer broadcasting team, KVMR is now an integral part of
the community. For more than thirty years, the station has enjoyed the enthusiastic support of devoted listeners from all walks of life.
In a world of pre-packaged programming, community radio provides a crucial independent
source of music, news and information. Listeners are entertained, challenged, informed, and inspired by KVMR’s wide range of music programs and viewpoints.
The station supports the arts, health and human services, education and environmental
causes by giving an important voice to local nonprofit organizations. With a live broadcaster
on duty 24/7, KVMR also serves as Nevada County’s official Emergency Broadcast Station.
It will be a great accomplishment to get KVMR a new home and it’s something the community really needs to get behind. I’m happy to be a part of the campaign.
– Michael Funk, Campaign Chairman Chairman of the Board, United Natural Foods Inc.

BUT iT’s TiMe For a change
KVMR has critically outgrown its rented space. And now it finds itself in cramped, inefficient
quarters overflowing with equipment. In studio space and production facilities that do not
come close to meeting its minimum needs — and that makes it a challenge to produce
quality programming. Over 700 devoted, committed volunteers – and duct tape and faith – are what keeps KVMR up and running every day. Imagine for a moment your home in such condition.
It’s time for KVMR to have a suitable facility. It needs to have
a place where it can continue to grow and do what it does best…
build and connect the community.
KVMR needs a new home to properly house its day-to-day
broadcasting and office operations. By remodeling a building, it will have the opportunity
to strive to build the greenest radio station in the country. This approach will significantly
reduce its operating overhead and allow KVMR to better serve its diverse community of
listeners. Listeners not just from our local area but from throughout northern california.
We’re honored to be able to help KVMR out and support them with their efforts.
– Ken Grossman, Honorary Chairman CEO/Founder, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.
“
”
I cannot tell you how many times I have walked in the door, literally dozens of times, and said, I need to get something out to the people. We need more publicity, we need more volunteers, we need help. And there’s never been one time that I’ve ever been turned away.
– Reinette Senum Co-Founder of PowerUp-NC (a community nonprofit) Vice Mayor of Nevada City

”
Imagine for a moment a facility actually designed to be a radio station.
With high quality, state of the art equipment to broadcast the best sound
possible. Imagine live broadcast performances of your
favorite musicians or choral groups in a new spacious studio. Imagine
enough space to house KVMR’s huge music library. Imagine a “green”
building that becomes a model for environmental responsibility.
imagine all that!
Imagine yourself helping to make this new place a reality – so KVMR can
continue to evolve and remain an important foundation of the community
it so gladly serves.
