This is one restaurant, one brand, one idea I pray for rapid expansion on; the principle, the product, the taste, the convenience are all factors that have lead me to become Kye’s biggest fan – and I’m not even a part of any diet restriction they cater to. Healthy or not, the food at Kye is incredible, accessible, and downright addicting.

LOVE & LOATHING LOS ANGELES, 11-12-14

Kye’s is our new obsession… My personal favorites were the Nori Burger KyeRito and the Reuben KyeRito. I am gluten free, so to have these options were so exciting and (almost) life changing for me. I rarely get to enjoy a burger or a deli sandwich and Kye’s has changed this. Along with one of their shakes, I felt like I was at in-n-out,

but…healthier!

Like lots of healthy restaurants on the Los Angeles food scene, Kye’s, which opened November 5 in Santa Monica, makes a kill -er superfood smoothie and kale salad. But it’s the signature KyeRitos, tidy handheld foods that are a healthy riff on the burrito, that make it a genre-breaker among LA’s

fast-healthy-casual spots.

Kye’s: Healthy Foods That Won’t Make You Want to Slit Your Wrists.

To put it simply: it’s not easy to eat “dude healthy.” Some restaurants have a dish or two that fit in the spectrum, but very, very rarely does an entire restaurant offer a menu packed with options. Imagine my surprise then when I found such a haven on, of all places, Montana Avenue in Santa Monica, the land of resplen-dent housewives and perfectly perspiring yogis. Sure, Kye’s very much serves some super healthy superfood in a very sleek and modern abode for the aforementioned housewives and yogis (it was packed with such denizens upon my visit), but it also (very surprisingly) caters to the likes of you and me. You know, normies.

Our two favorites: The Nori Burger and the Bacon Pesto. The NB tastes very much like a burger encased in seaweed. However, I don’t say that in a bad way. Very much the opposite. You get the burger you crave, yet don’t have to feel miserable about it later. The Bacon Pesto similarly offers the ultimate breakfast sand-wich experience - minus some of the guilt. If I lived a little closer to Kye’s, I could see myself stopping by many a morning to pick one up on the way to the office.

THE UNEMPLOYED EATER, 2-19-15

I’m never far away from a place where I know I can grab something I’ll feel good about eating.  I’m excited to delve into one of them, a newcomer that I find I’m already craving regularly called Kye’s Super Tasty Super Foods.

LA ON $20 A DAY, 2-10-15

It’s kind of a dream of ours- -enjoying a whole sandwich without having to regret the high-calorie, gluten-containing slices of bread that hold it all together.

That wish is now a reality thanks to a new fast-ca-sual spot called Kye’s, a Santa Monica eating establishment with meals so innovative, they’ve got their own patents pending. Proprietress Jeanne Cheng heaps über-healthy mixtures of rice, super-food vegetables and lean proteins like wild salmon and grass-fed beef into Romaine leaves or collard greens, then wraps them in cellophane sheaths that are easy to peel back for eating on the go.

PURE WOW, 3-17-15

Handheld is in. You’ve got your Kindle and your iPhone and your keyless remote, juggling to grab your little one out of her car seat while texting to confirm weekend plans. But what about lunch? That’s where newcomer Kye’s comes in, with the newest healthy alternative to give the sandwich standby a run for its money. Stroll into their sunlit shop in Santa Monica and unwrap an unexpected (and healthy) handheld treat for your toddler’s tastebuds.

RED TRICYCLE, 1-2-15

The ultra-portable kyerito (eat in or take ‘em to go) are as tasty as they are nutritious, and that’s by design. Chang has grounded the restaurant’s philosophy in the Chinese principle of yin-yang. The yin is the nourishing aspect of the food, while the yang is “for the joy of it, for the pleasure, the happiness.” We’re beaming.

CLEAN PLATES, 1-22-15

Kraving Kye’s — All the necessary ingredients to create a new category of fast casual, fun, healthful eating. My personal favorites include the BBQ Pork (yes pork found here), the Nahm Jim (with its killer Thai-inspired fish sauce) and a Fresh Mint Shake (hard to spot the hidden yams).

A new-age wrap: Inspired by her son's multiple food sensitivities, Jeanne Cheng, owner of Kye's in Santa Monica, Calif., invented the KyeRito - an item that uses leafy greens or seaweed as a wrapper.

Kye’s opened with the goal of serving just about everyone: there are vegan, paleo, gluten-free and ‘all-American’ options on the menu – truly some-thing for everyone. If you’re a health nut with non-health nut friends – or a vegan married to a paleo, an all-American with a gluten-free child – you know how important this is. Kye’s menu is super-flexible, but most importantly to us, centers around their signature collard green or nori sheet wraps. Genius! Kye’s wraps everything from veg-gies to grass-red burgers, macrobiotic combos to breakfast ingredients, in their healthful leafy green wraps and we’re in love. Match that with black bean brownies, healing herbal teas, and raw shakes to die for and you’ve basically got our ideal lunch spot.
