KYJO end their gig season with a performance at the Deal
Music & Arts Festival with NYJO (National Youth Jazz Orchestra)
“I must thank you and congratulate you all
for such a truly exceptional concert. That is
proved to be Kentish/National history - the
first time KYJO and NYJO had shared the
same stage - was the icing on the cake!
It’s a very tough act to share a bill with
NYJO, but KYJO were superb and made us
all deeply proud to be ‘People of Kent’.
Please pass on our sincere congratulations
and thanks to all your fine young musicians.
This might have been the first time that
NYJO and KYJO shared the stage, but it
mustn’t be the last, and we’d love to see
more of the same.”
Paul Max Edlin D.Phil, Dip.Perf.RCM, ARCM, FRSA, FISM
Director of Music, Queen Mary University of London
Artistic Director, Deal Music & Arts
KYJO are looking for new players -

their very skilful playing”
Graham Setterfield - Chair of the Board of Directors - The Alexander Centre, Faversham
KYJO maximised their performance to the

My second choice is a wonderful summer track Chapina Chapin by Victor Mendoza from his album Black
Bean Blues. I was lucky enough to meet Victor when I was at college and he really was a “larger than
life” character and every time I hear this track it reminds me of how much fun I had working with him.
My first recommendation is Mustang by the trumpeter Donald Byrd from his 1966 album Mustang!
This track has a fantastic rhythmic groove and one of my favourite tenor players Hank Mobley!
