WELCOME TO COMMUNITY CHURCH

A United Methodist Congregation

Happy New Year, and welcome to worship! “For everything there is a season, and a time

for every matter under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1) As one year turns into another,

we trust that we’re safe in God’s eternal hands. Let us worship God.

RESPONSE: God set the bounds of time and space, of all creation. CALL: Our God, who has set eternity in the human heart. RESPONSE: God, who gives us this new year, who gives us today, in which

we can be obedient to God and choose to live faithfully. CALL: Today, in which we acknowledge God’s sovereignty. RESPONSE: Today, and every day, which we accept as a gift from God. CALL: Let us worship the One who makes everything beautiful in its time. RESPONSE: For everything God does will endure forever and ever! AMEN!

HYMN OF PRAISE UMH #245 “The First Noel”

PRAYING AS GOD’S PEOPLE Almighty and eternal God, you are the one who searches hearts. You’ve formed us as your people and made us your own. Today we come to worship acknowledging your sovereignty and grace. Holy Spirit impress your Truth into our inmost being. As we stand before your word reveal any falsehood and sin within us. Show us today, Lord, that as you give us a new year, you desire to deepen our relationship with Jesus and are calling each of us to share our faith in Jesus. We praise your name Lord and today freely give you our present and our future. Use us as you will. In Jesus’ name. AMEN!

SINGING IN RESPONSE UMH #240 verse 3 “Hark! the Herald Angels Sing” Hail the heaven-born Prince of Peace! Hail the Sun of Righteousness! Light and life to all he brings, risen with healing in his wings. Mild he lays his glory by, born that we no more may die, born to raise us from the earth, born to give us second birth. Hark! the herald angels sing, “Glory to the new-born King!

Camp Allegheny Is Coming! January 20 - 23, 2017 Are you ready for some winter fun in the mountains? Community's Kids are

planning our annual weekend retreat to Camp Allegheny January 20-22, 2017. We're planning to pack the schedule full of fun and enjoy all that Camp Allegheny, in Stoystown, PA, has to offer. Hopefully there will be plenty of snow to help make

the weekend memorable. Most of all, there will be plenty of opportunity to help our kiddos experi-ence God's love for them!

NEW THIS YEAR--the Annual Retreat is open to Community's Kids in 2nd-5th grades. This is a great opportunity to bring a friend for a fun weekend where they will learn about faith and what it means to be a follower of Him. Are you an adult that wants in on the fun? Come along! We need adult volunteers to make this weekend wonderful. If you would like the opportunity to spend

some time making memories at Camp A with Community's Kids, please let us know! On January 20, registration will begin at Camp Allegheny at 7 pm, and pick up will be at

Camp Allegheny at 11 am on Sunday.

The registration fee is $85. Checks can be made out to Community United Methodist Church and submitted to the church office. Please clearly mark your payment with Camp Allegheny and your

child's name. To register, please go to our website at www.communityumchurch.com and click the News tab. We need your full registration and complete payment by Sunday, January 15, 2017.

Any questions? Please contact Director of Children's Ministries Erin Kerstetter at 412-607-1863 or [email protected].

Handymen (or Women) Unite

Are you interested in serving at the church Saturday mornings on a casual basis? Some interest has been expressed in starting a Saturday morning work crew to assist with

minor repairs, replacing light bulbs, and setting up chairs for the Current service. If you’re interested in this type of ministry, please contact Deb MacAllister at

[email protected] for more information. If you’re available during the week, our Thursday Morning Work Crew meets 9am until noon.

Upcoming Adult Sunday School - January/April Studies Beginning January 22-April 9 “The Bible Fast Forward” will be led by Ron Painter. This study focuses on the Old Covenants and how they tie to the New Covenant.

Beginning April 23-June 4, Pastor Ron Fleming will lead a study based on the lectionary Easter readings through Pentecost. Each class will be from 9:45-10:40am meeting

in Room 212. Children’s Sunday School provided.

MOMSnext This group is for moms of school aged kids (elementary through high school).

Wonderful topics that help moms become the best moms they can be and bring them closer to Christ are discussed. This group meets the 3rd Thursday of the month through May from 9:30-11:30am in Patterson Parlor. Contact Michelle Watson at

[email protected] or 724-600-6862 for more information. Childcare is not provided. The first meeting of the new year is January 19th.

The Silent Shepherd The role of the Holy Spirit in a Christian's life is often misunderstood. Author John MacAr-

thur, Jr. clears away misconceptions, offers fresh insights, and shares how God's Spirit can guide, lead, and empower every believer. Led by Leigh Casale, choose a time to meet from one of the three options. Contact Leigh Casale for details at 724-396-4777 or by

email at [email protected]. 1st and 3rd Wednesday mornings 10:00-11:30 beginning Jan 4 (co-ed); 1st and 3rd Wednesday evenings 6:45-8:15 beginning Jan 4 (co-ed); 2nd

and 4th Thursday mornings 9:30-11:00 beginning Jan 12 (women).

Galatians – Why God Accepts Us:

The human acceptance we long for often comes only if we are attractive, smart, wealthy or powerful. And God's standards seem even higher. In his letter to the Galatians, Paul

shows us the true source of our acceptance--Jesus Christ. This Bible study on Galatians will help us know that we are worth much more to God than we can ever deserve or

imagine! This group offers a mixture of personal reading and reflection as well as group discussion. Meeting at 7pm this class is led by Pastor Jim Decker meeting on Monday

evenings from January 23--April 3 in the Patterson Parlor. Contact [email protected] or 724-515-7252. Books provided are $10.

DivorceCare - New Session Starting Soon! DivorceCare is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. Don’t go through separation or divorce alone.

Meets in the Patterson Parlor on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:30pm from February 7 – May 2. Manuals provided are $15. Please contact Carol Soule at

724-519-7084. Ecumenical program. Open to the community.
