We asked Connor to write about how BBC Children in Need’s support has changed his life. Here’s his story in his own words…

I’m Connor. I’m 10, and I live with my mum and three brothers in North Wales.

My dad, Gordon, was a butcher. Everybody in Wrexham knew him. He loved making people laugh. When I was three he got blood poisoning and lost his leg, but that didn’t stop him. He became a taxi driver instead. Three years ago he got cancer and became very sick. At first he stayed home, but then he became very ill and had to stay at Nightingale Hospice for a while.

He just got more and more poorly, and died on my birthday in November last year. Because I was upset my mum took me to see Diane, a social worker at Nightingale House. Money from BBC Children in Need helps Diane to do her job.

The first time I went there we played puppets and made volcanoes which are really cool. I took in some photos of dad and me, and a keyring he gave me, and we put them in a memory box.

I hope other children who lose someone have a Diane they can talk to.

Cake SalePut on a

Fundraising? It’s a piece of cake! So come together over elevenses or afternoon tea and raise some dough.

Call in favours Ask workmates (whoever’s willing really) to pitch in and help.

Bake or buy Choose a recipe and whip up something tasty. Not much of a baker? Pop to the shops, buy some treats and do your bit. It’s the cakes that count!
