Happy New Year from Porsche Centre Willoughby and welcome to the fifth issue of W Magazine

To kick start 2014 you will find a special 5 page feature article on our all new Porsche Macan range. You may understand why there is so much anticipation for the June 14th release of this Sports Utility Vehicle after reading some of the many reviews such as:

‘Macan: a new class king? At the moment it looks that way’ – Drive.com.au

‘The all-new Macan will re-write the performance rulebook for small SUV’s’ – Wheels Magazine 2014

‘Macan: The school run suddenly got exciting!’ – Pistonheads.com

With over 50 orders for the Macan S and Macan Turbo taken already and more expected, we need to make way for this increased volume by adding a 3rd level onto our dealership. PCW is investing over $4m in renovations to ultimately enhance your Porsche experience, so please forgive any interruptions whilst this is happening.

In this issue you will also find an introduction to our 2013 award winning After Sales Parts and Service Department; featuring a staff profile on our After Sales Manager, Mark Blundell.

I wish you a great start to the New Year and as always welcome you to stop by and utilize our complimentary Porsche Café Carwash service. Relax with a hot or cold beverage in Café Scuderia while we get your Porsche looking even cleaner for 2014.

To book the Café Carwash service please contact our Service Department on (02) 89 666 934 or (02) 89 666 935.

Regards,

Rolling start.

I N S I D E M A C A NThe standard leather package of the Macan Turbo emphasises the excellent quality of the interior. As a further highlight, the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) including navigation module and large touchscreen comes as standard. Likewise, the BOSE® Surround Sound System. With 545 W total output and 14 loudspeakers including active subwoofer, it makes for a special sound experience.

The Macan combines the typical handling characteristics that Porsche has represented right from the outset: maximum acceleration and braking values, vast engine power, extreme agility and optimum steering precision. What’s more, all of these features are teamed with a high level of comfort and everyday suitability.

The sporty DNA of the Macan, as with all Porsche vehicles, is also immediately recognisable in the design. The SUV is unrivalled in its flat and broad profile on the road. The wraparound bonnet and gently sloping roof line accentuate the overall impression of sporty elegance and powerful dynamics. Many of the design elements have been taken from other Porsche sports cars and enhanced for the Macan, making it clear to see from the very first glance that the Porsche Macan heralds the first sports car in the compact SUV segment. The Macan is “Made in Germany”, produced at the Leipzig plant. Porsche has invested 500 million euro in the plant and has established an entire production line there. The line is set up to produce around 50,000 vehicles per year – all manufactured with the utmost precision and to the highest level of quality.

Three models comprise the Macan range at market launch. The Macan S is equipped with a 3.0-litre V6 twin turbo engine delivering 250 kW (340 bhp) and also features active all-wheel drive with an electronically

controlled, map-controlled multi-plate clutch. This all-wheel drive is fitted on all Macan models.

A seven-speed double-clutch transmission transfers power as required and almost without any interruption, enabling the Macan S to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds (or 5.2 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono package). The Macan S has a top speed of 254 km/h, and its NEDC fuel consumption figures are between 9.0 and 8.7 litres/100 km, which corresponds to a CO2 emissions level of between 212 and 204 g/km.

The Macan S Diesel is the economical long-distance runner of the three Macan models. Its 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel engine achieves NEDC fuel consumption figures of between just 6.3 and 6.1 litres/100 km, which corresponds to a CO2 value of between 164 and 159 g/km. Nevertheless, the Macan S Diesel accelerates from 0 to 100 km in just 6.3 seconds (or 6.1 seconds with the Sport Chrono package) thanks to its 190 kW (258 bhp) engine, and achieves a top speed of 230 km/h.

As the top model in the Macan model line, the Macan Turbo is set to be the most powerful vehicle in the compact SUV segment. The 3.6-litre V6 twin turbo

Porsche is expanding its range to include a whole new class of vehicle. The Macan is the first Porsche to break into the compact SUV segment and is poised to set new standards in the field of driving dynamics and enjoyment – on both paved streets and uneven terrain.

engine, which is being used in a Porsche model for the very first time, achieves an unrivalled 294 kW (400 bhp) and catapults the Macan Turbo from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. With the Sport Chrono package fitted, it is possible to achieve that sprint in 4.6 seconds. Although the top speed is 266 km/h, the Macan Turbo delivers NEDC fuel consumption figures of between just 9.2 and 8.9 litres/100 km, which equates to a CO2 value of between 216 and 208 g/km.

The name ‘Macan’ comes from the Indonesian word for tiger. And the Macan really does live up to its name: powerful and ready to pounce at any time, yet light-footed and tenacious on off-road terrain. The sporty all-wheel drive is ultimately a Porsche invention, designed and first implemented by Ferdinand Porsche in 1900 in the Lohner-Porsche racing car with its four electric wheel-hub motors. In 1947, Porsche developed the Type 360, better known as the Cisitalia Grand Prix racing car. The car became a true driving legend, not only as a result of its supercharged 12-cylinder engine and consistent lightweight construction, but also thanks to its permanent all-wheel drive. The design was based on the idea that drive power around bends or on roads with low frictional values can be converted into propulsion more fully and more reliably.

The latest stage of evolution of the all-wheel drive – known as Porsche Traction Management (PTM) – has produced one of the world’s most powerful drive systems. In launching the Macan, Porsche

now offers sporty all-wheel-drive vehicles across an unprecedented range.

A glance at the performance specifications reveals that the Macan has been designed with agility in mind. The engines, drive systems and seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) bring the Macan’s characteristics to bear in dynamic and efficient fashion both on and off road, making for a true Porsche driving experience. The driver and passenger seats feature the low position typical of sports cars.

The range of standard equipment fitted on the Macan is extensive, and includes the allwheel drive, PDK, multi-function sport steering wheel with shift paddles, large wheels, high-performance audio system and an electrically operated tailgate. The list of optional special equipment offers further highlights, such as air suspension system, which the Macan features as the only vehicle in its segment. There is also Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), which has been specially tailored to the Macan. This system distributes varying levels of drive torque to the rear wheels and works in conjunction with an electronically controlled rear-axle differential lock. Also available is Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus), which continuously adjusts the headlight level in keeping with the traffic ahead and any oncoming traffic.

The new Macan S, Macan S Diesel and Macan Turbo go on sale at Porsche Centre Willoughby on the 14th June 2014.

exceptional service whilst consistently meeting and exceeding our clients’ expectations whether it be a regular service or a full engine rebuild.

I am extremely fortunate to have employed exceptional staff over the last six years. Their experience, knowledge and attitude make my role effortless. The fact that Workshop, Parts and Service all work together as one cohesive team means that we are readily able to provide our clients the highest level of customer service and give them every reason to continue year on year coming back to us; and really at the end of the day that is what our business is about.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES / INTERESTS OUTSIDE OF WORK?Having played Rugby Union for over 20 years from under 6’s, I naturally enjoy Union on any level but more as a spectator nowadays. I am particularly ‘gifted’ in the social aspect of spectating …

I’m a keen fisherman and any spare time I have I can be found on Sydney Harbour chasing the kingfish, flathead and snapper. Holiday time that is not devoted to family generally sees me on a boat somewhere

HAT IS YOUR MOTORING BACKGROUND?

I started my mechanical apprenticeship 23 years

ago in a small BMW workshop where I gained

extensive knowledge in the servicing and repair of BMW vehicles. I transferred to Alto BMW in my third year where I completed my contract. Two years on I gained my BMW Technician status.

I had several roles from Foreman to Service Advising until I was promoted to Service Manager. Over the years I completed many training courses including a Certificate of Management through Deakin University. After 17 years with BMW it was time for a new challenge.

WHAT IS YOUR ROLE AT PCW? As the After Sales Manager I am responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Service and Parts Department. I employ 17 Staff from 1st year apprentices to Gold Technicians who have been in the industry for over 40 years. Our goal is to provide

off the coast of NSW. On one particularly memorable occasion I caught a nine foot, 160 kg Mako shark off Bermagui. Fiona (wife) was rather taken aback when she opened the fridge door to find the Mako’s head leering out at her!! The jaws are now proudly mounted in our living room.

I’m also reasonably versatile with my hands and quite enjoy restoration and renovation of anything. I renovated my house over three years and restored a 1958 FC Holden that was my “little baby” until I was blessed with my little girl Charlize (Charli). Charli is approaching three and takes up any spare time I have now. Having said that I am always on the lookout for a hot rod that needs some TLC – I’m about due for a new project (or so Fiona keeps telling me).

WHAT ARE YOUR CAREER HIGHLIGHTS?Study and school books were never really my best friends! So achieving my Business Management Certificate through Deakin University would have to be up there; as much from a professional perspective as a personal sense of achievement.

Pushing the boundaries and always achieving beyond the benchmarks set for us in Service and Parts is something I always keep top of mind. You always need to be re-inventing and changing to adapt to what your clients and market are looking for.

WHAT ARE YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS AT PCW?I feel very privileged to work as part of such a close-knit team – we have very low attrition with next to no staff leaving. This means that you feel like you are working more as part of a family than just ‘coming to work’.

In 2013 we maintained a Customer Service Index rating of 85% where the Porsche Australia average was 82% (This is significant in the sense that customer surveys are done externally and therefore no one feels ‘obliged’ to give us a good rating).

The Service Team consistently wins or places second in the PCA annual competitions run throughout the Dealership network. This means Chris and Albert have both won a trip to attend the Formula 1 Grand Prix in the corporate box for two days for winning again in 2013. I have offered to carry their luggage or be their chaperone to acquaint them with the Melbourne nightlife!

So in essence these are not just my achievements but that of the team. You are only ever as good as the people around you.

“There is nothing like the sound of a Porsche. The flat-six engine at full noise – you just can’t beat it!”

CLUB TO CUP

I have been racing Porsches for 10 years, starting at the age of 20. I have been lucky enough to race internationally, competing in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge, finishing in the top 10 at Porsche Rennsport and recently placing 2nd at the Inaugural Highlands GT race in New Zealand at the end of 2013.

My love for Porsche started at an early age with a 993 S. My first road car and a movie dream machine, it fuelled my ever growing passion for competitive racing. Everyone races for different personal reasons, mine being the thrill and drive to win - I would race a Billy cart!

I made up my mind that if I were to race, it would be with a brand I associated with quality engineering and one that I already had a strong relationship with – Porsche.

My first step to racing was purchasing a Porsche Cayman S and joining the Porsche Club of NSW. I started competing in Super Sprints and was crowned “Rookie of the Year”. The best thing I ever did was join the Porsche Club. Their encouragement and support really started me on the right track.

I got my National CAMS Licence which was a big step for me and I had my first race in a Lotus Elise at Wakefield Park placing 2nd. From there I got a chance to race a Porsche 996 Turbo at the Eastern Creek 6 Hour with (now) V8 Racer and Ex Carrera Cup driver, David Reynolds. Together we won the race.

The next step in my career was getting KMS in a Porsche Cup Car. I was 22 by this stage and still competing with my Cayman S in Super Sprints through the Porsche Club NSW. It was a really important stage as I was getting the feel for the cars and the track. After that, things took off. I bought a 996 Cup Car and took to racing like a duck to water. I progressed to 997 Cup Cars and GT3 Cup Challenge and have since been offered to drive at the Bathurst 12 Hour for the last 2 years and again in 2014 racing my 997 Cup Car.

More recently I have been spending a lot of time in the USA promoting and distributing Fiji Water . Having the opportunity to race over there enables me to build my racing brand Aaron Zerefos Enterprises. They have such a strong racing culture with names like James Dean and Steve McQueen still inspiring excitement.

I can’t wait for the new 991 911 Cup Cars to arrive. 2014 is going to be a thrilling year for Porsche and I am grateful to be associated with the brand and enjoy being an ambassador on and off the track.

You can follow my progress www.gt3cupchallenge.com.au, Twitter @AZ _FijiWater or Facebook @ Aaron Zerefos.

On a stretch of tarmac that sooths the soul, our destination is found by way of an exhilarating drive just south of Sydney through the Royal National Park. Perched on the edge of the Illawarra escarpment and with an expansive view of the Tasman Sea, The Tumbling Waters Retreat in Stanwell Tops is a premier dining establishment.

We enter the co-ordinates into the Porsche Navigation System and follow the Princes Highway south out of Sydney. Our thoughts are with the commuters heading into town for a days work much harder than ours as the Porsche Panamera GTS we are driving combats the busy road surface; belying its size and weight. The ride is so impressive, particularly in our driver preferred SPORT mode that distance fades away as we rapidly cover ground.

The words of Gordon Robertson - Chief Porsche Driving Consultant are brought to mind: “Of all our vehicles, the Panamera surprises our customers the most unequivocally. This contrast between effortless gliding and racetrack performance can be found nowhere else.”

A navigation alert informs us our journey is due to turn over many new leaves as we sweep left onto Grand Pacific Drive, escaping into the surrounding bushland. The roaring song of the National Park’s cicada population is all but silenced by the mighty 324 kW, 520 Nm V8 powerplant and visibility is shortened by the road twisting and turning through the Park. Splashes of yellow and red flora show at the roadside and our enthusiasm and exhilaration seems to be matched by the bright native birds flitting across the road ahead.

A tight left hairpin and a right 90 delivers us down onto the Audley Weir, crossing the Hacking River. We fire past the Weir Café on our right and crack open the throttle, our Michelin pilot sports bite into the warming tarmac and hold their composure like a seasoned stand-up would deal with a heckler. Pushing uphill through a series of sweeping lefts and rights until an open curving hairpin right sets our record… straight.

A look in the rear view mirror as we hurtle through a tunnel of eucalyptus shows the dense bush lands unyielding roadside position threatening to engulf the road behind.

With the turn of a keythe calm ambient

sounds of a weekdaymorning are shattered

by a sharp bark andgrumble resonating

from the quadtailpipes of our Ruby

Red Panamera GTS.

Eventually the road starts to drop from the ridge line and seems to fall out of the sky. As the road twists back and forth, gum trees give way to rainforest and we stop for photographs near the start of McKell Ave.

The Panamera’s telepathic PDK programming lives up to its reputation and never leaves us wanting a gear change as we dart and flow through the remaining corners of Lady Wakehurst Drive. We burst out of the trees at Bald Hill overlooking Stanwell Park Beach and pass the monument honouring Lawrence Hargrave.

Recognised as the father of modern aviation and the Australian inventor of the box kite; Hargrave, on November 12, 1894, linked four of his kites together at this spot, added a sling seat and rose 16 feet in the air to prove that man could fly. This ultimately led to the development of flying machines.

Following Grand Pacific Drive right we turn left on to Stonehaven Road and are almost at our destination. As we guide Porsche’s “flying machine” through the regal gates of the Tumbling Waters Retreat we are greeted by the sublime view. The ambience of the magnificent sandstone main building combined with the high quality cuisine found at Tumbling Waters make this venue perfect for premium occasions.

With canapés and champagne cocktails followed by a degustation menu, you can watch nature at play as the evening unfolds

The award-winning French executive chef Thierry Molimard will ensure your private dining experience is filled with exquisite taste sensations at the “Dining on the Edge” restaurant. As luxury Ocean Suite accommodation is also offered here, it is easy to relax, indulge and experience this scenically breathtaking getaway.

From here your return journey can be an easy 2km drive west and a right turn onto the Princes Motorway, setting you on course for the big smoke. Alternatively a continued journey south on Grand Pacific Drive will lead you to the Sea Cliff Bridge: one of only seven off-shore parallel to coast, balanced cantilever bridges in the world.

The Sea Cliff Bridge was named by 11 year old schoolgirl Makenzie Russell following a naming competition opened to local primary school students. Boasting spectacular views, it is a feature of the scenic Lawrence Hargrave Drive.

As the sun sets on another Porsche Centre Willoughby drive, we’ll leave it up to you to begin your own south coast adventure; remembering that all it takes is a simple turn of the key…

The aluminium bar with the characteristic vents and the “targa” logo provide an additional striking accent, with a roof construction that takes the 1963 911 coupe to a new aesthetic level and a safety concept that makes open-top driving a most viable proposition.

The new roof system features the characteristic wide bar in place of the B-pillars, a movable roof section above the front seats and a wraparound rear window with no C-pillar. Unlike the classic models the roof section on the new Targa can be opened and closed at the push of a button.

The roof materials used are just as pioneering as the roof itself. 2 flat elements made from magnesium provide for optimum tensioning of the fabric hood. The heated rear window is made from weight-optimised laminated safety glass and together with the noise-insulated roof liner, it ensures an incredibly low level of driving noise when the top is closed.

As with the predecessor model, the new Targa generation comes in two variants, the Targa 4 (pictured below) and Targa 4S, exclusively with all-wheel drive. The Targa models share a great deal with the 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet models, up to the front windscreen line, the technology and body of the vehicles is more or less the same. The combination of the wide rear end that is typical in all-wheel drive models, the Targa bar and the dome shaped

rear window gives the latest 911 an extremely sporty appearance and low slung profile.

The 911 Targa 4 is powered by a 3.4 litre, 257kW (350 hp) flat six-cylinder engine. Equipped with the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) and Sport Chrono package, the Targa 4 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and boasts a top speed of 282 km/h.

The top model is the 911 Targa 4S which delivers 294 kW (400 hp) from a 3.8 litre flat six-cylinder engine. This model reaches a top speed of 296 km/h and with the PDK and Sport Chrono package fitted accelerates to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds.

With the new 911 Targa models the interior design is sporty, the layout is classic and the equipment high-end. There are no distractions or gimmicks and everything is tailored to the driver and the task of driving. The materials are high quality and stylish. The steering wheel rim, door handles, armrests and parts of the seats are in leather. In addition to the standard colours Black, Platinum Grey, Luxor Beige and Yachting Blue, many individualization options are available with two-tone interiors and special colours, or materials such as carbon, aluminium and wood.

The 911 Targa models will be available in Australia mid 2014. For more information please contact our Sales team on (02) 9958 0900.

The 911 Targa follows the Porsche Design motto of ‘ form follows function’ from the word go.

Porsche Centre Willoughby has a long history with prestige vehicles;

beginning 50 years ago in 1963 when Scuderia Veloce Motors registered

their name as a motor dealer.

In 1968 Scuderia Veloce Motors,

now Porsche Centre Willoughby,

was appointed a Porsche dealer.

In 1996 Scuderia Veloce Motors was appointed the Australian and

New Zealand distributor for Ferrari and later that year went on to

move Ferrari to a new location in William St, Sydney.

In 1964 Scuderia was appointed a Ferrari dealer and later on as a Volvo dealer in 1965.

In 1983 the Sutton family purchased the Scuderia group: building a new facility in Willoughby in 1991 for Porsche and Ferrari and later on in 1994, adding Chrysler Jeep to their stable.

By then the Porsche franchise in Willoughby was well established and in 2003 the dealership underwent a total refurbishment into the building you know today.

This year, 2014, is a big year for the Porsche marque as well as Porsche Centre Willoughby. To make way for the new Macan as well as other new models like the 911 Targa, GT3, Turbo and

the new Panamera models, we are investing over $4 million in redesigning and renovating our dealership to the worldwide standards set by Porsche AG in Stuttgart, Germany.

Renovations started in October 2013 and will be continuing throughout the first half of 2014
