1, Former Major General MITOSHI Tasuyoki ( 5 lq ),once an Army Air Force Officer, is a purged officer of the Japanesemilitary:lb° according to Source hopes to see himself installed onceagain in the top echelon of a revived Japanese Army and who believesthat the inevitable rise of the Japanese Amy is Japan's only Chanceto regain her former status and power among ! -e nations. In post-surrender Japan, KIYOSHI has advanced his personal fortunes by capit-alizing on connections with high Occupation officials and local "bossenoin Kyoto and Tokyo.

2. mirosu was born in a village in Hiroshima Prefecture andreceived his early education in the primary and middle school attachedto the Hiroshi ma Normal School. After graduation from the Army StaffCollege, he served in the early 30 1 e as an Assistant Military Attachein Washington, D.C. Source knows little of MITOSHI l s military careerexcept that he was one of the pioneer pilots in the Japanese Air Force.

3. After the surrender MIKOSHI was sent to Kyoto as head of theArmy Liaison Office charged with the duty of demobilizing Japanesemilitary personnel in the area in cooperation with General IreugerlsSixth Army. He quickly established excellent relations with the Occu-pation officers and earned the reputation among the Japanese as a good“fixer" with the Occupation. According to a CIO source, he also made asmall fortune black-marketing the material cached by the former JapaneseArmy in the Kyoto area which he was,eherged with liquidating. A part ofthis money he invested in one of thi-Upanese hotels in Kyoto, the EINTAP.I0KAN, which *e-cass-of-thed serves as his head-quarters there.

C. SASAKI Kyo.** Chairman of the Kyoto Branch of the japan SUMOAssociation and an admirer af TOJO. When TOJO was in Sumo SASAKI paid amonthly remittance to TOJO's family. Connected with a certain Japanese-Syrian jeweller named Anal (fnu) in a firm called the Towers, Inc. whichrecently went out of business.

D. 7ATSHJI Haruki, first post-war mayor of Kyoto and unsuccessfulcandidate for the mayoralty in the last election, and grug■ (first name notgiven), first director of the Kyoto Procurement Board. WATSUJI and MIURAwere indicated in the Kyoto District Court for illegal activity in the 1950Upper House elections. MIDSHI, despite his status as a purges, was vir-tually one of WATSUJI's staff officers in his election campaign.

MATSUMOTO Shigeaki, war-time profiteer inShanghai and elsewhere in China. When KIYOSHI was Army Liaison Office chief,he and MATSUMOTO are said to have made a nunber of profitable business deals.MATSUUCTO for a few years after the war published in Kyoto a magazine °riledthe JIHO-SEA, similar in content to the monthly SHIMS°.

F. IISHIWARA Koichiro, ex-tycoon in South-East Asian exploitation(rubber and tin in bidaya and Indonesia) who encouraged TOJO and his fol-lowers in their scheme for southern expansion. laTOSHI wrote a lengthypetition requesting ISHItARA ls exoneration from war-guilt and the purge.When ISHIWARA was finally released from Suromo, aroma maintained that hewas the major instrument and was given an ample cash award.

G. .ilAILSMI Shunji, a "financial magician" who has been labelledthe "marathon-borrower". MIYOSHI served HAIASHI as "foreign affairs advisor"for a few months after he got HAXASHI out of CID detention late in 1947.

5. At present =am' spends two-thirds of his time in Tokyo, theremainder in Kyoto. In Tokyo he entered into a partnership with a MadamsAplaILLand later made her his mistress. Madame KOMATSU is the proprieOseof the GAJO-EN restaurant-hotel which mom now runs as he does the KINTAR/OKAN in Kyoto. MITOSHI and Madame KOMATSU met when the latter was runningan army-protected geisha house in Singapore called the "Komatsu".

WIYUSHI has reportedly succeeded in biting the Dutch Shell Companyto invest in the SHMA Oil Co., Tsunohaan, Shinjuku, Tokyo.*** He alsoclaims to have established the Alafla Strait Pearl Cultivation Co., incooperation with Australian interests.
