The Baptism of the Lord
In the Spirit of Renew My Church
Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Patrick,
At the onset of Fr. Kurt’s sabbatical, I would like to take some time to describe my role at St. Patrick Parish. The technical term for the assignment is Level 1 Administrator. The mandate is for continued uninterrupted operations of the parish in the absence of the pastor. As such, the scope of authority is comparatively limited and ordered to the sustained sacramental and spiritual life of the parish as well as functional activities and organizations. However, the position does not allow for the initiation of change, such as structural or even cosmetic alterations of the buildings or environment. Nor should changes be made that would affect the financial future of the parish and parishioners. Such decisions are reserved for Level II Administrators, who have broader based authority, or the Pastors, who shepherd the parish and influence long-term goals. The implications may be obvious. Those who prefer the status quo would likely benefit from such arrangements while those who prefer change might be frustrated by the lack of progress. However, the vitality of the parish could still flourish in seamless flow until Fr. Kurt returns to resume his position with full authority. On a more personal note, I am grateful for the warm welcome, which you have given me. May our collaborative efforts promote the good and growth of St. Patrick’s Parish.
Fr. Larry Gorski

We don’t often think of friendship as part of a faith development program. Yet friendship is the closest experience we have to the
experience of faith. Friends gift us with joy; support us in our sorrow; lift us when we are down; enter our lives to give us their time and presence in many and varied ways. In a Spred community we grow in this kind of friendship with fellow parishioners who choose to welcome people with developmental and intellectual challenges, down syndrome, autism spectrum disorders, and learning problems on alternate weeks. There will be a Spred Information Gathering for parents and interested men and women on Monday, January 21st at 6:30pm in the St. Patrick Ministry Building Classroom 8. Friendship grows from being with one another and sharing stories from our everyday lives. Training is offered. What we do for others, returns to us a hundredfold. Learn more about Spread! It is so different from any other program. It builds community.

THIS WEEK’S STEWARDSHIP RECOMMENDATION:
Water heaters are the 2nd highest source of energy usage in the home. Save money and significantly reduce carbon emissions two ways: 1) Wrap it in an insulating blanket—a cost of only about $25 at your local home center; 2) Turn down the thermostat from 140° (the standard factory setting) to 120°. Also, if it’s time to replace the unit, consider a tankless water heater. Tankless units heat water only when needed and can achieve greater efficiency than standard tank-type water heaters. When replacing your water heater, make sure it’s Energy Star rated.

FOR OUR HOMEBOUND
THE PERFECT GIFT: A MASS INTENTION If you would like to schedule a Mass intention for someone you love, please call or email the Parish Office. Special intentions can be made for someone
who is ill, a special occasion, an anniversary, a birthday, or any day! Mass intention requests can be taken through email and paid for either in the mail or via the weekend collection basket. Please mark the envelope “Mass Intention: Attn: Sue.” In the envelope, please
include your payment, phone number, Mass date and name, and whether you would like a special Mass card mailed. You may call the Parish Office to arrange bringing up the gifts of bread and wine at that Mass. There is no nicer way to offer tribute or better prayer you can offer those you love. (Stipend suggested by the Archdiocese of Chicago is $10 per Mass).
