The Loss of a Friend Family and friends of Diane Siebert , shocked and saddened by her sudden death, filled La Purisma Catholic Church on July 25th, 2008, to celebrate the memory of her life. Friends from LRCSC, High Desert, and San Diego Lab Club were there to say good bye to a wonderful lady and fellow Lab Breeder.

Diane served on the Board of LRCSC for two years before being elected Presi-dent in 2004, and served as President for three terms. Several of our most success-ful raffles were headed up by Diane, and anyone who worked with her appreciated her determination and organization. Diane’s main goal as President was to rewrite and restructure our club By-Laws and Constitution, which she successfully com-pleted before leaving office in 2006.

Diane showed and bred labs under the prefix “Pharmlabs” and religiously supported the Breeder Code of Ethics and always entered her litters in the Futurity Competi-tion, winning Best and Breeder of Best several years in a row.

The LRCSC and the Labrador community will miss this lady and her sunny smile.

Reprinted from Pet Corner by Jarrod R. Moss DVM

Each year millions of phone calls are made to human poison control centers regarding pets who have ingested a potentially toxic substance.  About 75% of telephone calls involve dogs and 15% cats.  Of the calls regarding dogs the great majority of them involve the Labrador Retrievers.   A fact that is not surprising due to the popularity of the breed, and the retriever’s natural instinct to carry things in their mouths.  Many of the foods and medications we commonly ingest can be potentially toxic to our pets.  Some of the most common poisonings involve chocolate, grapes, raisins, ibuprofen, acetamino‐phen, aspirin, and snail and rat bait.  So if you keep any of these items in your home they should be stored safely away from your pets.  If your dog or cat accidentally ingests one of these items, you should call or take them to the vet‐erinary hospital immediately.

Editor’s note: Don’t forget the danger in sugar free candies and gum. Labs will eat just about anything!
