The days of this school year have passed in a flash. June has arrived and students have nearly completed another year of learning.
We have much to celebrate. Our staff has worked hard to provide high quality and intensive instruction this year. The students have worked hard to achieve their academic and behavioural goals. Our volunteers have logged thousands of hours supporting our community.
Thank you to our families for supporting PAC’s Chocolate Bar Fundraiser. The sale raised nearly $3000.00. I hope that you weren’t forced to eat too many chocolate bars! The funds will be used to purchase a SMART Document Camera.
The theme for the 2013-14 school year is “Believe You Can.” Students will be exploring the “B” in our Luxton ABC’s. They will learn more about setting goals and working toward achieving them. With the right combination of skills and attitude, our kids can do anything!
Report Cards will be sent home on Wednesday, June 26, 2013. There are no classes on Thursday, June 27, 2013. The last day of school is Friday, June 28, 2012. Students will be dismissed at 11:30 AM.
The Celebration Assembly will honour the accomplishments of the whole school. The assembly will be held at 9:15 AM on Friday, June 28, 2013 in the gym. Please join us!
This is a year of change. Here are the staff updates: -We bid Mr. Tavares farewell. He will be moving to another school in September. We wish you all the
best! - Mrs. Mather-Oliver will return as the Grade 1 teacher. - Ms Martens will remain as the Alternative Grade 1/2/3 teacher. - Ms Auty will become the Alternative Grade 4/5/6 teacher. - Mr. Schulz will return to Luxton as the Grade 2/3.
Congratulations to Mrs. Youngson, Mrs. Arnold, Mrs. Roziere, and Mrs. Stebner. They have decided to retire! Please accept our heartfelt thanks for the many years of dedicated service that you have given the children of the Luxton and the Winnipeg School Division. You will be missed. Enjoy your freedom!
After thirty years with the WSD, I will also be retiring as of June 28, 2013. Thank you for your kindness and your support over the past six years. It has been an honour to serve the families of Luxton School. On behalf of the staff, I want to thank you for a busy year of learning and growing. Have a safe and happy summer. Respectfully, Ms R. Trautmann
Dear Families:

Congratulations to Gavin B. who is our Patrol of the Month for May! Gavin has been punctual and a very good example to the students who cross at his post.
Keep up the good work!
Thank you to all the patrols that have served the Luxton Community this year. The patrols have served in all weather conditions from extreme cold to rain to hot conditions. Their dedication to their posts and this community is greatly appreciated. See you all next year! Ms Velychko

I noticed on baby Ciaran’s first visit he was shy but after the next two visits he was more comfortable. I noticed near the end of the year he could crawl. I loved watching how baby Ciaran reacted to things.
– Veda
I liked when baby Ciaran came to visit us. I noticed that he smiled a lot at us. He made us feel happy when he visited.
– Patience
It is our final newsletter for the school year and I have really enjoyed having students share their positive learning experiences. I have worked with Room 9 students on the Roots of Empathy program throughout the year. It has been a privilege to have had baby Ciaran and his mom Shandee visit the classroom . The students have looked forward to the family visit every month. They have learned many things about looking after a baby and the many changes that take place in a baby’s first year. Here are some of the student reflections from our year with baby Ciaran.
Ms Hamilton Guidance Councillor
When baby Ciaran came to my class he was very cute and we laughed a lot at most of the things he did. He was not only funny he was curious too. Many babies are curious in their first years but not like Ciaran. We were always looking forward to Ciaran’s visits. Lots of us learned a lot from Ciaran and we all wish to see him again!
– Sarah
Baby Ciaran is so cute and he learned stuff so fast. He visited us 9 times but I was only there for 7 of those visits.

Summer vacation is just around the corner and we would like to make sure that your child continues to make progress in his or her reading during the break. As many of you know, our school has a subscription to www.raz-kids.com, which allows your child to access an online
library of reading materials from any computer connected to the Internet. Raz-Kids helps students improve their reading skills as they listen to a book read for modeled fluency. If the computer has a built-in record function, they can record themselves reading the same book. Or, students can read the book to themselves or aloud for practice. Interactive quizzes are available at the end of each book to check for understanding.
Here is how to access the website and your child’s reading assignment from any computer connected to the Internet:
1. Go to www.raz-kids.com from your Internet browser and click on .
2. Type in the teacher’s username and click .
3. Find your child’s name or symbol on the chart and click on that symbol.
4. Enter a picture password if prompted.
5. The books in your child’s assignment and stars earned appear on a personal assignment page. Your child can choose to listen, read, or take a quiz by clicking on the symbols below each book.
Remember, the more your child reads, the better reader he or she will become!

Please remind your child(ren) to return their library materials! Staff and Students: Overdue notices will be sent beginning the first week in June to classroom teachers. Let’s make sure we find them all. ALL LIBRARY MATERIAL IS DUE BACK ON THE WEEK OF JUNE 10 - 14th. THE ARTS WITH MR. ROSNER
June is here and Luxton students are busy finishing assignments, and getting ready for some summer fun! All students have been working hard on their units in Visual Arts.
Grades 1-3 have been making props, sets and costumes for their Fairytale Theatre productions. Each class has started with a round of storytelling and rehearsal. I am very proud of the efforts students have put forth in finding, and using their voices! Once the performances are ready, classes will perform for their peers of the same grade level. I am sure they will all enjoy and learn from participating and observing the various performances.
Grades 4-6 have contemplated many thoughts on what makes their identities, and studied a variety of principles used by professional photographers. They are now ready to take the cameras outside and start clicking! Hopefully the sun will shine, and we will see creativity and knowledge combine to produce some wonderfully artistic photographs. Once the pictures are in, we will delve into photo editing, where students will learn to alter and enhance their work.
The De-Lux Choir have raised their voices, and been heard! The Volunteer Tea, presented on May 30th, was a great success. They sounded great! We will learn a few more songs, and have a party to celebrate our accomplishments!
Congratulations to Cheyanne, Aidan, Falyn, Alvin and Tanya who participated in the Honour Choir! I saw their performance. I was amazed and inspired by the beautiful harmonies and tones that filled the air. The opportunity to sing in a large choir with advanced instruction was truly a valuable learning experience.
I have been delighted and proud to work with the students of Luxton, and I hope you all have a wonderfully creative summer!
Sincerely,
Mr. Rosner
