In 1976, after gaining her Registered Teacher Status with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), Mrs. Jill Chase founded Lyme School of Ballet. Having danced and sung professionally, Mrs. Chase has a

lifetime of dance, ballet and artistic experience alongside a wealth of teaching experience and knowledge.

Whilst Mrs. Chase remains principal, Miss Freya Lovett is now the school’s teacher. Miss Freya holds a Level 4 Certificate and Level 5

Diploma in Dance Education. She recently gainer her own Registered Teacher Status with the RAD having successfully completed her

teachers’ exam. The school follows the RAD Ballet syllabi and examination system for girls and boys, teaching dancers aged 2.5 years and older. We also have a growing community of adult dancers and offer lessons under the RAD’s new Silver Swans programme. Miss Freya is a licensed

Silver Swans teacher and classes advocate the role that ballet plays in not only children’s, but all generations’, health and wellbeing. Miss Freya is an experienced dancer having completed all RAD

examinations from Pre-Primary to Grade 8 (Distinction) and Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced 1 of their pointe

work Vocational Syllabi.Students are welcomed to all-inclusive and friendly classes which are

held mainly at the Woodmead Halls in Lyme Regis (Hill Road, DT7 3PG). However, some classes may be run from Lyme Regis Parish Church Hall or the Uplyme Scout Hut. Advanced notice of venue

changes will be provided in good time.There is the opportunity each year for students to take part in our

Summer School, designed to stretch and challenge our dancers with free classical, non-syllabus work. This is followed by the Lyme Regis Carnival Procession for which students are invited to take part in a

‘corps de ballet’ dancing down Lyme Regis high street. Each New Year, the school also takes part in the local pantomime. This

is the perfect opportunity for our students to find their feet in performance, if they so wish.

You may wish to dance as a hobby, for exercise or more professionally in the future; whatever your reasons,

all ages and abilities are catered for at Lyme School of Ballet.

We ask that all prospective students please ring Miss Freya in advance of class to express their interest.

A document of the school’s uniform regulations and other policies are available on request and can also be found on our website

under ‘Admin’. We will endeavour to help all new students with our stock of second hand uniform and shoes.
