The repair of the iPhone 3GS mobile phone, can be both simple and inexpensive if you follow the steps of this disassemble guide. To assist you in completing the repair, the steps we have provided will help you quickly, and safely, replace a broken display, along with other internal components that may have become damaged.

• To begin disassembling the iPhone 3GS, locateand remove the two small Phillips screws (#00) inthe bottom of the phone on either side of thedock port.

• To separate the display assembly from theiPhone 3GS, put a suction cup close to the homebutton on the front side of the display. Pull up onthe assembly while holding the base of the phonedown.

• There are two connections you need to pry upout of their sockets with the spudger. They arelabeled 1 & 2.

• Do not completely remove the assembly because itis still attached by ribbon cables.

• Connection 3 is a ribbon wire that is locked intoits socket with a FPC style connector. Please donot forget to flip the lock for this connection onthe opposite side of the ribbon entry.

• To separate the LCD from the touch screen, locateand remove the six small Phillips screws (#00) thatsecure the LCD to the assembly.

• With the screws to the display assembly removed,pry the LCD away from the touch screen.

• Remove the display assembly from the iPhone3GS.

• Remove the LCD from the iPhone 3GS.

• To work toward removing the earpiece speaker, usethe spudger to pry up on the metal clip that issecuring it into its housing.

• With the metal clip removed, continue with thespudger to pry the speaker out of its housing.

Step 9 – SIM Card

• Before dissembling any further, use the SIM cardremoval tool or a paper clip to pull the SIM tray fromthe iPhone 3GS.

• Remove earpiece speaker from the iPhone 3GS.

• The next few steps will require disconnecting aseries of connections to work toward the removalof the motherboard.

• The next connection is labeled 5. Pry it up and outof its socket.

• Would you care to guess what connection is next?Yes, it is connection number 6. Pry it up and out ofits socket.

• The disconnections will be done with the spudger, gently prying up on each connection. Begin with the connection labeled 4.

• Last but definitely not least, connection lucky number7. Pry it up and out of its socket.

• The motherboard is secured into the case of theiPhone 3GS with eight small Phillips screws (#00).Remove them with the appropriate screwdriver.

• Use the spudger to maneuver the camera out of itssecured location, and then prepare to lift themotherboard from the iPhone 3GS.

• When nothing is obstructing the motherboard frombeing removed, use the spudger to assist you inpulling it out of the iPhone 3GS case safely.

• On the back of the motherboard, you will find theconnection for the camera. With a simple swipewith the spudger, the motherboard will disconnect.

• Three small Phillips screws (#00) secure the dockport assembly in the iPhone 3GS. Use theappropriate screwdriver to remove these screws.

• Remove the camera from the iPhone 3GS.

• With the screws removed, use the spudger tomaneuver this assembly out of the iPhone 3GS.

• The battery is secured into the iPhone’s case withadhesive. Use the spudger and plastic pull-tab topry the battery out of the case.

• This entire assembly is one piece; several smallPhillips screws (#00) hold it into place.

• First, start with the two Phillips screws (#00) thatsecure the power button. They are located in thetop right corner.

• The four Phillips screws (#00) holding the headphone jack into place are the next series of screws to be removed.

• The last group of screws is the four small Phillipsscrews (#00) used to keep the volume buttons inthe side of the case.

• With all ten Phillips screws (#00) removed from theassembly, use the spudger to maneuver theassembly out of the case. Be careful with thedelicate ribbon cables.

• The last piece of the phone to disassemble is thevibrator motor. Remove the two Phillips screws(#00). This piece will come right out the iPhone3GS.
