year. Named Star Of Orion, he has won this year for Ralph Beckett’s stable and was recently a close second in a sales race at the Curragh.

Yesterday Star Of Orion’s full-brother entered the ring where Kevin Ross lowered the hammer on behalf of his regular clients Paul and Clare Rooney. Ross said the colt would go to Richie McGrath’s Middleham yard for breaking, but training plans were undecided.

Ross said: “He’s a lovely type of horse with a lovely action and the full-brother looks a decent horse and a bit unlucky at the Curragh. The dam has a nice rating and her first foal looks good, and we liked this colt as an individual.”

Ross admitted he was keen to attend this sale, despite its move across the Irish Sea, having bought the very useful filly Isabella Giles for the Rooneys at the Sportsman’s Sale last year. The Clive Cox-trained Isabella Giles bids to secure her fourth win of the season when lining up in today’s Gr.2 Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket.

Ross added: “All the sales companies are doing a great job of putting on sales and deserve a lot of credit. Yesterday was very difficult to see horses [because of consistent rain] and I’m pleased for vendors that the sun has come out today and made the job that bit easier. Horses seem to be getting sold and that’s a good thing at this time.”

It will not have been lost on traders or the Goffs’ team that the opening session of the sale held 12 months ago in Kill managed an outstanding 93 per cent clearance and a €100,000 session high, which compares to one of £50,000 yesterday for a son of Footstepsinthesand. However, these are very different times and in 2019 the Sportsman’s was held immediately after the top-tier Orby Sale, benefiting from that proximity.

Running the two sales together this year was not possible due to the limitation on stables at the smaller Doncaster complex and so the Sportsman’s was brought forward to stand on its own. The Orby also moves to Doncaster and will be staged next Wednesday and Thursday, dates which should enable any agents or pinhookers who visited Keeneland’s big yearling sale to be in attendance.

BARRY AND LYNCH IN TUNE WITH HARPISTStud manager Mitch Barry and bloodstock agent Barry Lynch turned an advertised covering fee of €10,000 into a £50,000 sale topper when trading a son of Footstepsinthesand (Lot 647) out of their mare Harpist.

A daughter of Danehill Dancer, Harpist was bought by Barry and Lynch privately, sent to Footstepsinthesand and produced a colt who they sold for €38,000 as a yearling at Fairyhouse last

An April foal out of the mare Crafty Notion (Viking Ruler), a half-sister to the dual Gr.1 Guineas winner and sire Cockney Rebel, he was consigned on behalf of breeder Reggie Roberts by Mick and Ciara Carty of the County Kildare-based Kilmoney Cottage Stud. The buyer was BBA Ireland’s Michael Donohoe, acting on behalf of a client based in the Middle East.

The Cartys are currently riding a wave, with three of their yearling graduates having won as two-year-olds this year, the latest being Ballyconneely Bay who scored at Pontefract yesterday for John Quinn’s stable about an hour before the son of Mehmas, the first yearling offered from Kilmoney Cottage this year, walked into the ring. Teodolina and Cottam Lane have also won during September after yearling prep with the Cartys.

Mick Carty, who was at the ring, his wife was doing the spadework at home on Orby and October Sale horses, said of the Mehmas: “We have had him for about seven weeks and he was very easy to prep. The sire’s going well and everything fell into place. I thought he might stand out here today.

“Coming here [instead of going to the sale’s planned home at Goffs’ HQ in Kildare] the expenses are higher, but we entered him for this date and didn’t want to change that plan. You don’t want to get a horse ready, then have to back off and we have other yearlings to prepare for other sales.

“We have 11 or 12 yearlings to sell this year and this is the first one, so it has been a good start.”

Donohoe said a Royal Ascot plan was in mind for the colt, and added: “The sire has done very well with his first crop and this was a particularly nice horse with a quality action and a super temperament.

“He’ll go back to Ireland for breaking in, but is likely to come back to Britain to be trained.”

Donohoe’s other purchases during the session included a £33,000 Australia colt (Lot 655) from Castletown Stud.

The Mehmas flag will be hoisted higher if one of his foals provides him with a breakthrough victory at the top level and that seems very likely to happen tomorrow when he is represented by three colts of big potential in the Gr.1 Middle Park Stakes. Minzaal, Method and Supremacy, the front three in the betting, give the Tally-Ho Stud sire a ridiculously strong hand, but he was a tip-top two-year-old himself, whose record included a third-place finish in the Middle Park.

Congratulations to all those breeders who used him this year at €7,500, for his fee is only going one way after results on the track this season.

Ross’s purchase was consigned under the name of Rockfield Farm, the County Cork-based stud owned by Michael O’Flynn and managed by Mitch Barry. He said: “We bought Harpist privately and sent her to Footstepsinthesand as her first cover. She produced a very nice colt who sold well and has given the page a very nice update which made a massive difference to this lad.

“This horse has been straightforward, just like his big brother last year, so we’re delighted.”

Barry, who was born in England and spent his early years living near Brighton before moving to Ireland at the age of 11, became familiar with Footstepsinthesand while working at Coolmore’s Castlehyde Stud before taking his current role at Rockfield. He added: “It’s been a team effort at home and we got the right horse in the right place and it’s paid off.

“Harpist has a foal by Gustav Klimt [another Castlehyde resident] who is likely to be offered this year and she is in foal to Ribchester.

“Barry and I became friends through the horse industry. We’ve been great pals for years – he was on the Darley Flying Start course and I was at Coolmore America and Australia at the same time and we just struck up a friendship.”

MEHMAS LATEST HIGH FOR CARTYS OF KILMONEYAny vendor with a yearling for sale by first-season sire star Mehmas must be feeling optimistic, as witnessed again yesterday when one of his sons (Lot 570) was knocked down for £47,000.

BBA Ireland secured Lot 570, a son of first season sire Mehmas, for £47,000 from Kilmoney Cottage Stud’s consignment. © Goffs

MEHMAS AGAIN – THIS TIME FOR HANLY FAMILYSoon after Kilmoney Cottage Stud’s Mehmas colt left the ring came a filly by the sire (Lot 609) who also made a useful contribution to turnover when selling for £44,000.

Amy Lynam, daughter of County Meath trainer Eddie, was on hand to bring the hammer down and said later she hoped the new recruit might bring back some of the heady days experienced at the yard when ace sprinters Sole Power and Slade Power were in action. In the meantime she is dealing with the COVID-19 regulations, which meant she came to Britain last week ahead of Tattersalls Ireland’s September Yearling Sale in Newmarket and will be heading back there after next week’s Orby Sale in Doncaster in order to be her father’s representative at Books 1, 2 and 3 of the October Sale. It could be said she is currently a very good customer for Airbnb.

Amy said: “I’ve bought her for Dad – he couldn’t be here because he’s busy back at the yard, but I sent him photos and videos. It’s important to have someone on the ground to do that or get to the barns to look at the horses or make a short-list, because with quarantine and managing things at home it’s hard to make it to the sales. And as much as horses are important, your own health is important, too.

“I’m glad to get her because we tried to buy at Fairyhouse [in Newmarket earlier this week], but the nice individuals we were after made a bit too much money. This filly is a very nice individual with a great attitude and she’s a January foal who looks like she should be

her three-year-old season. Her two-year-old Fools Rush In, also by Mehmas, has won this year for Tom Dascombe.

Mark Hanly said of the filly: “We’re selling 11 yearlings this season and she has been one of the stars, a very genuine filly and a great temperament. Mehmas is bred very similarly to Dark Angel and I loved him from the word go. Faddwa has an Acclamation filly foal on the ground, but is not in foal.”

LADY POISED TO DO MOUSE A FAVOURA Kodiac colt (Lot 496) could gain a winning update at Haydock tomorrow when his full-sister, Lady Hayes, lines up in a novices’ race.

The Roger Varian-trained Lady Hayes, a 280,000gns Book 1 yearling bought by Kerri Radcliffe for owner George Bolton, won nicely on debut at Salisbury earlier this month and could be difficult to beat under a penalty. A win there and some black type before the season ends would be a boost for the mare Andry Brusselles (Hurricane Run), now a ten-year-old with a Listed win in her form line and a two-from-two record with her foals.

When her third foal came on the market yesterday bloodstock agent Mouse O’Ryan was poised, and it was his bid of £40,000 which lifted the yearling from Eddie O’Leary’s Lynn Lodge Stud consignment.

O’Ryan, whose recent forays to the ring in Doncaster have included teaming up with trainer Gordon Elliott to secure the hurdler Grand Roi with a £400,000 bid at the Summer Sale, said of the Kodiac: “I’ve bought him to go into training with [Yorkshire-based] Philip Makin. He’s a grand racy horse, an early two-year-old type and the sire speaks for himself.

“The sister looks pretty smart for Roger Varian and cost plenty in the ring, and I felt this horse was good value.”

    RACING REVIEWBRITAIN

LA BARROSA ROLLS UP HIS SLEEVES IN SOMERVILLE TATTERSALL STAKESLa Barrosa came into the Gr.3 Somerville Tattersall Stakes, the feature race at Newmarket yesterday, as the warm favourite, having won a hot Ascot maiden on his debut three weeks ago, and the son of Lope De Vega overcame a troubled passage to win it by a length.

Trained by Charlie Appleby and ridden by William Buick, he settled in third as Dark Lion (Dark Angel) took the field of six along, tracked by Qaader (Night Of Thunder). The pace was honest throughout and quickened three furlongs out, and with two to go, Buick began to look for a way out between the leaders, but the door was firmly shut. He went back for a second bite of the cherry and eventually muscled his way between them at the furlong marker and asserted in the closing stages to score by a length from Dark Lion, with Qaader three quarters of a length further back in third.

After the race Appleby commented: “I was quite pleased to see where he was because it helped the horse get into a nice rhythm. William got the pitch where he was and he showed a bit of class – when the gap came, he quickened up. He’s still learning and was still quite raw out there, he’s a nice horse going forward. I think if we take the right steps with him, I think he’s going to be a really nice three-year-old.

“It’s a long winter but it’s nice to have those dreams [on Gr.1 2,000 Guineas prospects]. It helps shorten it up a bit.”

Bred by Knocktoran Stud, La Barrosa was a 750,000gns Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 purchase by Godolphin. He is out of the Gr.3 C L Weld Park Stakes, Gr.3 Prix de Psyche and Gr.3 Classic Trial-placed Bikini Babe, a Montjeu half-sister to Group winners Combat Zone (Refuse To Bend), Royal Empire (Teofilo) and Scottish (Teofilo), as well as the Gr.3 Prix Miesque-placed Zut Alors (Pivotal), dam of the Gr.1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches winner Precieuse (Tamayuz). This is the family of the Gr.1 Commonwealth Cup winner and sire Eqtidaar (Invincible Spirit).

RANCH HAND BATTLES TO ROSE BOWL VICTORYAlso on the card at Newmarket was the two-mile Listed Rose Bowl Stakes, for which a competitive field of four faced the starter, and it was the youngest of the quartet Ranch Hand (Dunaden) who came out on top, earning his first black type.

Trained by Andrew Balding, Ranch Hand was unraced at two, but won his first two starts at three at Southwell before coming fifth in both the Lingfield Listed Derby Trial and the Gr.3 Bahrain Trophy. He then won a 1m6f Haydock handicap last September, but was winlesss since, although he had run some good races in defeat.

Yesterday, Withhold (Champs Elysees) bounced out and set a solid pace, tracked by Ranch Hand and Mildenberger (Teofilo), with Ghostwatch (Dubawi) bringing up the rear. As the tempo rose, the four runners entered the final quarter of a mile almost in line and all under a drive, but Ranch Hand got his head in front

The E-Passport, which has been in development for two years, will enable enhanced traceability, welfare, biosecurity and anti-doping for the equine community at a time when welfare is paramount and the reduction of passport handling to reduce COVID-19 risk is welcomed.

Full details on the applications of the passport can be found here and include the ability to check markings, record vaccinations and medication, register ownerships or movements and the capacity to monitor or track and trace the population for disease outbreaks.

Some of the features of the new passport have been essential for the resumption of racing this year, including vaccination checks, to help the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) and Horseracing Ireland (HRI) with their ‘Return to Racing’ protocols. The latter has also incorporated the E-Passport as the central digital recording and data repository tool within their five-year Welfare Strategy.

With the success of the E-Passport to date, its functionality is now being trialled in the Middle East and America, as well as also being adopted by other equine disciplines.

Brian Kavanagh, CEO Horse Racing Ireland, said: “The work we are doing in conjunction with the IHRB [International Horseracing Bureau] and utilising the Weatherbys E-Passport has been incredibly positive for the pre-clearance of vaccination status. We see the E-Passport as a central part of the welfare and traceability strategy for Irish Racing over the coming years.”

As the E-Passport continues to develop to include stallion, mare and foal registrations, as well as pre and post racing vaccinations ahead of its release next year, Claire Sheppard, CEO Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association, added: “We are working very closely with Weatherbys on a larger number of projects – and the Weatherbys E-Passport is central to many of these through the part it can play in identification, traceability, health and welfare benefits for the Thoroughbred. Indeed the equine movement element of this technology was vital at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic as it was used to track the movement of thoroughbreds during the breeding season.”

AXXOS PURCHASED TO STAND AT HUNDRED ACRE FARMThe Gr.2-winning sire Axxos has been purchased to stand at James and Amelia Gray’s new property, Hundred Acre Farm, alongside Falco and Sun Central, having stood in France and most recently in Ireland at Coolagown Stud.

The son of Monsun has already achieved three chase winners in the UK, including Listed hurdle winner Calett Mad, Earlofthecotwolds, a five-time winner who faced the starter at this year’s Cheltenham Festival, and Dame Du Soir, who has won over both hurdles and fences.

A winner as a juvenile, Axxos went on to Gr.2 glory in Germany the following season, before finishing runner-up in the Gr.1 Grand Prix de Paris at three and gaining another Group victory in his final season at four.

James Gray commented “Axxos is a gorgeous stamp with a great walk, standing at 16.1hh he will suit most mares. His temperament is

and held off the battling Withhold to score by a half a length. Ghostwatch was third, a length and three quarters further back, and Mildenberger was fourth.

Nathaniel Barnett of Kingsclere Racing Club said: “He’s been running in competitive staying races all season and this was his first time back up at two miles since the Cesarewitch last year. He’s just been hitting a flat spot in his races this season, so I think that extra couple of furlongs made the difference today. He looked to appreciate it and I thought he was holding on well at the end.

“We’ll enjoy this result today [before making any plans] but this does open up plenty of options for us.”

Bred by the Balding family’s Kingsclere Stud, Ranch Hand is one of three winners out of the Gr.3 Lillie Langtry Stakes-placed Victoria Montoya (High Chaparral), a half-sister to the German Gr.2 winner and sire Passing Glance (Polar Falcon), the Gr.3 Prix du Palais-Royal winner Hidden Meadow (Selkirk) and the Listed winners and Group-placed Kingsclere (Fairy King) and Scorned (Selkirk).

LISTED SUCCESS FOR SIYOUNI’S SON DARKNESS AT LYONThe Listed Critérium de Lyon for two-year-olds was the feature race at Lyon Parilly yesterday and it was won by the Jean-Claude Rouget-trained Darkness, a son of Haras de Bonneval resident Siyouni.

Stepping up to 1600m for the first time, he settled in a share of third on the outside as Ever Pink (Anodin) set a steady pace. It turned into a 400m sprint and with 200m to go Darkness, Euphoria (Sepoy) and Colosseo (Street Boss) all passed the fading leader. The trio raced to the finish in line, but Darkness pulled out that little bit extra in the final few strides to get up by a short neck. Euphoria was second, a quarter of a length ahead of Colosseo, who was in turn a short neck ahead of the fast-finishing Miss Louna (Goken).

This was a third win in five starts for Darkness, who was third on debut, won his maiden at Saint-Cloud and a winners’ race at Clairefontaine before placing fourth in the Gr.3 Prix La Rochette at Longchamp nearly three weeks ago, all over 1400m.

Bred by Écurie Haras du Cadran and Écurie Melanie, the Arqana August Yearling Sale graduate comes from an Aga Khan family and is out of the dual winner Kerila (Makfi), a half-sister to the Gr.3 Prix du Bois winner Keratiya (Iron Mask), the Listed Prix Hampton winner Kerasona (Oasis Dream) and the Listed-placed pair Kermiyan (Green Desert) and Kerman (Invincible Spirit). Kerila’s yearling filly by Ribchester was bought by Al Shaqab Racing for €240,000 at the Arqana Select Yearling Sale earlier this month.

    KEENELAND – DAY 10

CUPID COLT TOPS TRADE FOR SHAWHAN PLACEShawhan Place were the consignors of two of the four youngsters who were sold for six-figure sums during Wednesday’s tenth session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

The day’s top price was the $200,000 paid by agent Larry Zap, acting for Mike Mellen, for Shawhan Place’s bay colt by Gr.1 Santa Anita Gold Cup winner and first-crop sire Cupid, Lot 3391. The February-foaled colt is a half-brother to three winners, including the Stakes-placed Quick Release (Trappe Shot), out of the Distorted Humor mare Just Joking. The grandam is Stakes winner Contrast (Unbridled) and the third dam is Safely Kept (Horatius), a Champion Sprinter and dual Gr.1 winner of 24 races, including the Breeders’ Cup Sprint in which she famously raced past the shadow-jumping Dayjur near the line.

Shawhan Place, acting as agent for Mr and Mrs Theodore R Kuster, also sold Lot 3196, a $100,000 colt, to NewDay Training Center. By another first-crop sire, Gr.3 winner American Freedom, the chesnut is a half-brother to Gr.3 winner Strike The Bell (Mizzen Mast). Their dam is an unraced Mountain Cat half-sister to Stakes winners Vespers (dam of Gr.1 winner Hymn Book) and Database (dam of Gr.1 winner and sire Data Link).

The day’s second-highest price was $115,000, paid by agent Jesse Hoppel for Lot 3523. The Vinery Sales-consigned colt is by first-crop sire Klimt, winner of the Gr.1 Del Mar Futurity, and has already been named Klimt Eastwood. The late May-foaled bay is a half-brother to Gr.1 winner El Deal (Munnings) and the Stakes-placed Legacy Wildcat (Forest Wildcat), out of an Out Of Place half-sister to Gr.2 winner Chocktaw Nation (Louis Quatorze).

Three Amigos went to $100,000 for Lot 3283, a Tapizar colt from the Cross Keys Sales draft. The colt is the third foal out of the winning Super Saver mare Chainsmoknsuprmodl, a half-sister to Gr.2 winner Greeley’s Galaxy (Mr Greeley) and his grandam is a half-sister to Gr.3 winner License Fee.

superb and he has never sired a chesnut foal, adding to his appeal. He is a horse I have followed for a while and with two good books of mares covered in Ireland felt now was the right time to acquire him. He will not lack support from our own broodmare band and we look forward to supporting the breeders that breed to him at the sales in the future.’

Standing for €27,500 in 2020, he has sired multiple high-class Stakes winners and had his first top-level winner a couple of weeks ago when Galileo Chrome landed the Gr.1 St Leger, though quite a few had gone close, including Cayenne Pepper, who was second in the Gr.1 Irish Oaks and was very impressive when winning the Gr.2 Blandford Stakes on Irish Champions Weekend.

This colt by the Coolmore sire is a half-brother to Commander Grigio (Holy Roman Emperor), who won once for Fozzy Stack and was rated 100 after running fourth of five, beaten seven lengths, in the Gr.3 Anglesey Stakes. He continued his career in Hong Kong under the name My Chance. To date, they are the four runners from five foals of racing age out of the Distorted Humor mare Many Hearts, who is a half-sister to the 101-rated Listed Champion 2YO Trophy winner Whitman and the 93-rated Listed Prix Altipan winner Nature’s Colours (both by Poet’s Voice). THIS WEEK’S HEADLINES

TIME CALLED ON SILVANOMaine Chance standout Silvano, the sire of recently-crowned Horse of the Year Summer Pudding, has been retired from stallion duties due to a sudden decline in fertility.

South Africa’s Champion Sire of the past four seasons, the son of Lomitas led the General Sires List on five occasions, the first time in 2012-13. Also the leading freshman sire in Germany where he stood for two seasons prior to his arrival in South Africa, his German-bred progeny include Gr.1 Deutsches Derby hero Lucky Speed and the Champion Three-Year-Old Filly Mi Emma.

The 24-year-old boasts an enviable record as a sire of high-class middle distance performers, his progeny having captured all of the country’s Classics and major races, with the exception of the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate.

The sire of four winners of the Gr.1 Durban July, he created history in 2015 when siring a Maine Chance-bred trifecta, his sons Power King, Punta Arenas and Tellina filling the first three places. Two years later, he came close to a one-two-three repeat when Marinaresco finished a head in front of Al Sahem, while Gr.1-winning daughter Nightingale was pipped for third by a short head.

Silvano’s current tally of Stakes winners stands at 100 (nine German-breds), of which 26 have scored at Gr.1 level. In addition to aforementioned Summer Pudding, he is also sire of South African-bred champions Bold Silvano, Aslan, Kings Gambit, Marinaresco, Hot Ticket, Hawwaam and Vercingetorix.

Considering there are still three full crops waiting in the wings, this grand stamp of a horse is sure to exert his influence for some time to come. We wish him a happy retirement!

GOLD CUP WINNER TOPS PUBLIC VOTEThe controversial decision by the Equus Committee to drop the Champion Stayer award was met with plenty of outrage, so much so that the Snaith stable initiated a public poll.

Voters were asked to make their selection online and gave the verdict to Gr.3 Gold Cup winner Paths Of Victory (Noble Tune), ahead of 2019 Gold Cup winner Dynasty’s Blossom (Dynasty), Gr.1 SA Derby winner Out Of Your League (Elusive Fort), Gr.2 Western Cape Stayers victress Snapscan (Oratorio) and the Gr.3 Track and Ball Derby and Gr.3 Lonsdale Stirrup Cup hero Marchingontogether (Pathfork). Significantly, Paths Of Victory had both Marchingontogether and Out Of Your League behind him in the Gold Cup.

Raced by Mario Ferreira and bred by Rathmor Stud, the five-time winner is out of the winning Solskjaer mare Victory Garden, a daughter of Gr.2/3 winner Spring Garland (Rambo Dancer).

SHEER TALENT LIVES UP TO HER NAMESheer Talent has not looked back since breaking her maiden in July. The Riethuiskraal-bred four-year-old continued her progress

By Ideal World out of a Daylami mare, one would expect Sheer Talent to excel over a trip, yet all her wins have been over 1000m and 1200m. Her sire and maternal grandsire have clearly not diluted the raw speed of her female line. Her dam Puritani is an unraced half-sister to speed queen and joint Horse of the Year National Colour (National Assembly), who produced the Gr.1-winning sprinters Rafeef and Mustaqueem to Redoute’s Choice. Distance Horse, whereas the latter sired Champion Juvenile Colt Tempting Fate.

Varsfontein has already welcomed some outstanding foals this season and who knows, there may just be another budding champion amongst them.

Gimmethegreenlight, who finished last season as the country’s Champion Juvenile Stallion, covered many of the stud’s top mares in 2019 and so far, his foals on the ground include half-brothers to Gr.1 Gold Medallion winner Eden Roc (Var) and Gr.3 winner Ghaalla (Var), as well as colts out of Gr.2 Golden Slipper victress Final Judgement (Judpot), Babe Paley, a Fort Wood full-sister to Gr.1 winner Athina; and Viking Princess, a Trippi sibling to the Gr.1 winners William Longsword and Real Princess. Champion Bela-Bela (Dynasty) foaled a filly, as did Gr.3 Victress Stakes winner Star Express (Silvano), the Gr.3-placed Stakes winner Maleficent (Judpot) and Captive Lady (Sail From Seattle), a full-sister to the Gr.1 Cape Guineas winner Elusive Gold.

Master Of My Fate is sire of a three-parts-brother to Gr.1 winner Master Plan, out of his Gr.2-winning half-sister Polyphonic (Judpot) and a colt out of Gr.1-placed Bi Pot (Judpot), whose six Stakes-performing siblings include Alexandra Rose (Caesour), the dam of American Gr.1 winner Oleksandra (Animal Kingdom). Mares with Master Of My Fate fillies at foot include SA Oaks victress Arcola (Caesour); Secret Obsession (Captain Al), the Stakes-winning dam of Gr.2 winner Bunker Hunt; and Destiny Dancer (What A Winter), a three-parts-sister to champion Capetown Noir.

Silvano is the sire of a colt out of Bela Bela’s Stakes-winning half-sister Touch The Sky, whose first foal is the juvenile Stakes winner Amy Johnson (Captain Al). Princess Peach (Captain Al), a Gr.3-winning half-sister to last season’s Gr.1-winning juvenile and Equus Award nominee Sentbydestiny, has a filly at foot by Silvano’s champion son Vercingetorix, as does the dual Stakes winner Victorian Secret (Captain Al).

War Front’s Gr.1-winning son Lancaster Bomber is the sire of a half-sister to Gr.1 winner Forest Indigo (Judpot), a filly out of Dual Horse of the Year Legal Eagle’s half-sister Imperadora (Philanthropist) and a colt out of Cascadia (Sail From Seattle), a half-sister to Champion Juvenile Kochka.

Paths Of Victory (Noble Tune) was voted Champion Stayer by the public after the Equus Committee decided to drop the Champion Stayer award.

Ascot on 24th, 25th and 26th September 2010This was the last year that the Gr.1 Fillies’ Mile and Gr.2 Royal Lodge Stakes were held at Ascot before moving to Newmarket. Also from 2011, the Gr.1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes became part of British Champions Day and the Gr.2 Diadem Stakes became the British Champions Sprint. (1) Godolphin’s Poet’s Voice (Dubawi) beating Rip Van Winkle (Galileo; far left) by a nose in the Gr.1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. The best of the Group winners in his all too short stallion career was Poet’s Word, who landed three Gr.1s in the summer of 2018. (2) White Moonstone (Dynaformer) beating Together (Galileo) and Theysken’s Theory (Bernardini) in the Gr.1 Fillies’ Mile. Sadly, she never raced again after her unbeaten juvenile season, but she has produced three winners to date. (3) Frankel (Galileo) with Tom Queally and the Late Sir Henry Cecil after his ten-length romp in the Gr.2 Royal Lodge Stakes. (4) Laaheb (Cape Cross; nearside) just gets the better of Whispering Gallery (Daylami) in the Gr.3 Cumberland Lodge Stakes. Hamdan Al Maktoum’s gelding won six other races, including the Gr.3 September Stakes. (5) The Gr.2 Diadem Stakes is won by Lady Of The Desert (Rahy), a daughter of the Champion filly Queen’s Logic (Grand Lodge) and winner of two other Group races. She went on to produce the Gr.2 Lowther Stakes winner Queen Kindly to Frankel. (6) The Listed Fenwolf Stakes is won by the chesnut mare Fictional Account (Stravinsky; far right), who had earlier tried her luck over hurdles and ended her racing career with David Hayes in Australia, where she has remained at stud. (7) Already successful in the Gr.3 Jersey Stakes of 2010, the Oasis Dream filly Rainfall wins the Listed October Stakes. Her first foal was the Jebel Ali Listed scorer Shillong (Dubawi).
