ear Brothers Dand Sisters. As you know, I was unable to attend the February meeting due to my recent
surgery. I was informed that it was very successful, especially since it was held at our new meeting site. The room is perfect for our needs and we can look forward to many meetings and events taking place there. Our March meeting will be special since our State President will be with us on the 19th. The following weekend the Grand Council meeting will be held at the Doubletree Hotel in Santa Ana, off of MacArthur Blvd. The Officers of the Southern District have also been invited to our meeting on the 19th and have responded that they will be present. New members joining our lodge may be initiated into our Order at the meeting, so please mark your calendars to be sure you attend on that date.
Past State President and Past National Trustee Commendatore Joseph La Banca will be honored by the Grand Lodge at a banquet on Saturday evening, March 22nd, at The Doubletree Hotel at 7:00 pm. I wish our lodge to have a strong showing of appreciation to Brother Joseph on this occasion, as he has served us well in so many capacities in the Southern District and at the State and National level. For those of you who plan to attend this testimonial, the cost is $45.00 per person, and we must have your paid reservation in advance. Guests are also encouraged. Andrew Pampuro has agreed to assist in processing reservations.
I wish to thank Vice President Al Rossi for conducting our February meeting and all the officers who assisted. I have been told that the new meeting site is acceptable, however, we will require a sound system and new table layout if space is available. Kudos to Pat Dito, Lillian Rossi and Barbara Rizzo who I was told did a great job in serving pizza. salad and dessert. Al and Lillian will chair our
anniversary dinner on the 19th of March, and have a committee of helpers.
The children’s program was discussed and Pete and Pat Dito will be in charge of an Easter event.
I attended a preliminary meeting of the Foundation on Wednesday, February 26th. The results of this meeting will be presented at our annual foundation meeting, to be scheduled, which I plan to attend. Our Foundation CAO Frank DeSantis gave a report regarding the plans for the Columbus Day Celebration on October 5, 2014 at Bowers our Cultural Center since 1992. The Lodge activities will begin at 10:00 am and conclude at noon, at which time the lodge will host a luncheon for members. Cost of the luncheon to non-members will be $5.00. Entertainment will be by The Sicilian Band. A puppeteer program will follow. Children’s face painting will be provided, as well as free Italian ices and cookies. The museum also provides free admission from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Last year we had 1000 attendees who shared our heritage with us.
Many thanks go out to Barbara Rizzo for agreeing to host our summer Lodge picnic. More on this event as plans unfold.
The Italian Arts Council is doing well thanks to the efforts of Dr. Paul Licata, Dr. John Russo, Marylou Jefferies, Bernadine Neil, Alan Schalappy, Guy Floridia and Kathy DeSantis. Frank indicated he plans to have an IAC meeting to discuss our future cultural programs and an orientation trip to the Italian Cultural Institute in LA to develop more programs with Bowers, our Cultural Center.
Last but not least, if there is a member who would like to be our Committee Chair in charge of our History program, please contact me.
Until next month remember...Sempre Avanti!Your President,David A. Prisco

New Location, New Outlook! submitted by Patricia Dito, Financial Secretary
February brought several changes to the Renaissance Lodge. We now have a new meeting place in the city of Orange. We will be meeting every 3rd Wednesday at the First Presbyterian of Orange Geneva Room at 7 pm. The church is located at 146 N. Grand St.
At our first meeting we served pizza, salad, beverages and dessert to all the members. It was wonderful to relax around tables and enjoy a meal and the meeting. We will be able to serve many meals at this new location because we have full access to their huge kitchen. We hope that this new location will coax more members into attending meetings.
We also moved our storage unit to one in Orange. Thanks to all who participated in finding a new spot and preparing it for such a wonderful transition.
Al and Lillian Rossi provided the refreshments along with the help of Barbara Rizzo, Michelle Alfieri Lowinger, and Pat and Pete Dito. Bernie Neil and Al Schalappy organized the table settings and our storage locker. “It takes a village!" Thanks to all!

cost. We are going to check into using the plates that are in the kitchen of our new meeting place, or renting plates and flatware for the Event. The State President will attend as well as several other State officers. If all attend, there will be 10 extra people. Lillian Rossi will place an announcement in the La Campana along with a reservation form. Reservations will cost $10 per person and are a must for those eating dinner. The $10 is not meant to defray the cost of the entire dinner. Luciano Principato mentioned a good caterer that Al will check into.
THPROPOSED HALLOWEEN PARTY (OCTOBER 25 ): Pete Dito informed the members that the children he talked to recently wanted to have a Halloween Party. Since this is a Youth Committee Activity, he will chair the event.
PROPOSED LODGE CHRISTMAS PARTY (DECEMBER TH20 ): Since the Lodge did not have one last year, we will
schedule one this year. Pete will also chair this event. We need to determine a venue for both the Halloween and Christmas Parties.
GRAND COUNCIL MEETING (MARCH 21 - 23): Andy Pampuro stated that the Grand Council meets every year in a different area. This year the Council meeting will be held at the Doubletree Hotel on MacArthur Blvd. Joe LaBanca will be the honoree at a dinner dance on Saturday evening, March 22nd. The cost is $45 per person. Andy proposed that we should have at least one table from the Renaissance Lodge.

stscholarship deadline for applications is March 1 . State applications can be obtained online.
SUNSHINE LADY: Lillian Rossi reported that she had no information on any members who were ill. Please email her with any pertinent information.
FOUNDATION: Frank DeSantis told the group that he had heard from President David Prisco who is in rehab after surgery on his arm. David asked Frank to thank everyone who worked so hard on our new meeting venue. There will be a Foundation fact finding meeting at Frank's office on
thFebruary 26 at 5:30 pm. He stated that he, Tony Coco and Luciano Principato are the original founders of OCAIRF. Bowers Museum is now our Cultural Center. Members of the Italian Arts Council are also members of the Museum and receive the Passport magazine. We have Italian films and exhibits there and are able to use the auditorium and other facilities free of charge. There were over 1,000 people in attendance at the event in October which included our annual Columbus Day Festival in the morning. A lunch was served to our members and guests free of charge and was organized by John Russo. We had 54 in attendance at the Italian film on Sunday. Frank is also working with the Instituto di Cultura in Westwood to share some of their programs with our Italian program at Bowers. L'Italo Americano newspaper now has an
Orange County section. Copies of the paper are sent free of charge to Bowers. We need to make sure that articles and photos of our activities are submitted to the paper. He will introduce Hank Lowinger, our new publicity chair, to the staff reporter for Orange County.
There was no new or unfinished business.
GOOD OF THE ORDER: Pete Dito spoke about the new Italian Studies Council that is starting at Chapman University. He proposed that the Lodge join this Council. This matter will be taken up at the Foundation meeting. Also, Pete informed us that there is an Italian Students Club on campus that seems eager to interface with our Lodge members. Also, the students would be a good source of help for the Street Fair. Tony Coco mentioned that we have a liaison to Chapman University already through the Foundation. We will discuss the whole matter at the Foundation meeting. Bernie Neil read a list of the events that are coming to the University through the Italian Studies Program. These events are free of charge. An announcement of the events will appear in the next issue of La Campana.
Mario Guardi asked about the Lodge website. We do have one but it is not utilized much or kept up to date. Perhaps our new publicity chair and his committee will address this matter. Mario also invited the Lodge members to attend the Ballo in Maschera in celebration of Carnevale at the Costa Mesa Country
stClub on March 1 . Dinner is $45. Costumes and mask are fun but not mandatory. It is also a source of potential new Lodge members. He also stated that the Laguna Beach Meetup Group that sponsors this event buys 2-3 tables at our Lodge's annual Christmas Gala.
Al Rossi said that we should honor our long-time members at the Anniversary Dinner with the awarding of pins. These pins would be for 25, 30, 35 and 50 year members. We also talked about honoring our members who have been in the Lodge continuously but for less than 25 years. He shared some fun ideas that we might consider for our meetings such as a Meatball Contest, Cookie Contest, and the sharing of recipes.
BIRTHDAYS: The Assembly sang Happy Birthday in Italian to Barbara Rizzo and John Alfieri.
ATTENDANCE AWARD AND RAFFLE: The Attendance Award was won by Frank DeSantis. Al Rossi won the Raffle prize.
ADJOURNMENT: Chaplain John Alfieri gave the closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:35 pm by Vice President Al Rossi.
