“La Machina” is close to my heart, because it tells the story of the world which I know very well, which relates to me directly and which is a part of me. I had myself a puppet master whenI was seven years old.
DIRECTOR’S NOTE
La Machina tells the story of a journey taken by a young boy who becomes an apprentice to an old puppet master. The boy, Adrien, is innocent and a bit afraid to leave the side of his mother, but excited about the prospect of an adventure. Sergio, the Master, is well aware that this may be one of his last journeys. We follow Sergio, his faithful old dog Beast, and Adrien as they take an old camper into the sunny, summer mountains of southern France for a long tour. Equipped with lights, a small stage and the sleeping puppets, they bring the magic of puppetry to the small towns and villages of the countryside. As they tell stories to their audiences, we are also told the story of Sergio and Adrien.
SYNOPSIS
The Master. Sergio was a university professor of Latin literature thirty years ago but quit his teaching career to live the simple life of a puppet master. Not a single one of his pupils became a master and now Sergio feels a growing pressure to pass on his artistry to a young apprentice. Will Adrien be the one? Does he have the talent, the dedication and the desire to share Sergio’s vision?
SERGIO.
A lively, kind and inquisitive 10-year-old boy, Adrien is very curious about the world. Sergio becomes his teacher, his mentor, and a friend who shows him the magic of life.
