The hospital of Ivrywas built during theSecond Empire, from1864 to 1870, byTheodore Labrouste. Itwas named CharlesFoix in 1974, in memory ofan eminent neurologist whohad practised there duringthe 20's.

It re-focuses its activities on acutecare and post-op and rehabilitationcare.

Moreover, it develops partnershipswith retirement homes and adult resi-dential facilities within the Val-de-Marne department.

The Research and DevelopmentCentre includes a resources centre anda specialised research centre whichacademic labs, industrials and start-upsfrom Ile-de-France can utilize. Itconsists of a laboratory animal facilityand several labs including a platform ofsophisticated nervous system functionalanalyses. These state-of-the-art facili-ties are very well equiped.

The hospital is also engaged in theresearch of innovating solutions toimprove the autonomy of the elderly.It supports the gerontechnology withthe cluster of companies SOLIAGE.

The focus of the Clinical InvestigationCentre (CIC) sub-branch "Paris Est"will be the research on the elderly

therapeutics. It will be the first CICdedicated to the elderly in France.

Finally, the hospital's academicdepartment "FAST" (Fight AgainstAgeing and STress) gathers nume-rous medical and research teamsfrom the Pierre et Marie CurieUniversity to work on fighting againstageing and anxiety disorders. By creating the first painting workshops in 1977, Charles Foix Hospital became a pioneer. It committed to guaranteeingthe right of access to culture by officially including it in its project of life in 2007. As many as 800 artworks (paintings, drawings, sculptures) are maintained and most of them are used to decorate thehospital's hallways, offices and galleries. Exhibitions in other venues are also organised.
