The Songs Of The SaintsIntroduction
O Happy Day
O happy day, that fixed my choice on thee, my Savior and my God! Well
may this glowing heart rejoice, and tell its raptures all abroad.
Happy day, happy day, when Jesus washed my sins away! He taught
me how to watch and pray, and live rejoicing every day. Happy day,
happy day, when Jesus washed my sins away!
Amazing Grace
Amazing grace! How sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me! I
once was lost, but now am found; was blind, but now I see.
Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved;
how precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils, and snares, I have already come; this
grace hath brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.
When we’ve been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun,
we’ve no less days to sing God’s praise than when we’d first begun.
Alternative Melodies
Amazing Grace, My Chains are Gone
The Lord has promised good to me His word my hope secures. He will
my shield and portion be As long as life endures.
My chains are gone, I've been set free. My God, my Savior has ransomed
me. And like a flood His mercy reigns. Unending love, Amazing grace.
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow. The sun forbear to shine. But
God, who called me here below, will be forever mine. Will be forever
mine. You are forever mine.
Hymn Stories You Never Knew!
All Hail The Power of Jesus name
All hail the power of Jesus’ name! Let angels prostrate fall, let angels
prostrate fall; bring forth the royal diadem, and crown him, crown him,
crown him, crown him, and crown him Lord of all.
All the Way My Savior Leads Me
All the way my Savior leads me; What have I to ask beside? Can I doubt
His tender mercy, Who through life has been my Guide? Heav’nly
peace, divinest comfort, here by faith in Him to dwell! For I know,
whate’er befall me, Jesus doeth all things well, For I know, whate’er
befall me, Jesus doeth all things well.
America The Beautiful
O beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain; for purple
mountain majesties above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed his grace on thee, and crown thy good
with brotherhood from sea to shining sea.
Because He Lives
God sent his Son, they called him Jesus; he came to love, heal, and
forgive; he lived and died to buy my pardon, an empty grave is there to
prove my Savior lives.
Because he lives, I can face tomorrow; because he lives, all fear is gone;
because I know he holds the future, and life is worth the living just
because he lives.
Blessed Assurance
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God, born of his Spirit, washed in his
blood.
This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long;
this is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long.
Blest Be The Tie That Binds
Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love; the fellowship of
kindred minds is like to that above.
Doxology
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here
below; praise him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy
Ghost. Amen.
Fill My Cup, Lord
Like the woman at the well I was seeking for things that could not
satisfy but then I heard my savior speaking draw from my well that
never shall run dry.
Fill my cup, Lord, I lift it up, Lord. Come and quench this thirsting of my
soul. Bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more; fill my cup, fill it up
and make me whole.
How Great Thou Art
O Lord my God! When I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds thy
hands have made, I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, thy power
throughout the universe displayed.
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to thee; how great thou art, how
great thou art! Then sings my soul, my Savior God to thee; how great
thou art, how great thou art!
I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day
I heard the bells on Christmas day their old familiar carols play and
mild and sweet their songs repeat of peace on earth good will to men.
Jesus, Lover Of My Soul
Jesus, lover of my soul, let me to thy bosom fly, while the nearer waters
roll, while the tempest still is high. Hide me, O my Savior, hide, till the
storm of life is past; safe into the haven guide; O receive my soul at last.
Jesus Loves The Little Children
Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world. Red and
yellow, black and white they are precious in his sight. Jesus love the
little children of the world.

*The Doxology - Bring a Gift Of Love
Bring a Gift of Love, bring a Gift of Love, bring a gift of love
today. Bring an offering to our lord and King. Tell the world
he is the way! Bring a gift of love, bring a gift of love, bring a
gift of love today. In this quiet hour of worship, bring a gift of
love.
Prayer of Dedication
*Closing Hymn Sherri Bowser & Julie Robbins
“Awesome God”
When He rolls up His sleeves He ain’t just putting on the ritz. (Our God is
an awesome God) There’s thunder in His footsteps and lightning in His
fists. (Our God is an awesome God) The Lord wasn’t joking when He
kicked ‘em out of Eden. I wasn’t for no reason that He shed His blood.
His return is very close and so you better be believing that our God is an
awesome God.
Our God is an awesome God; he reigns from heaven above with wisdom,
pow’r, and love. Our God is an awesome God!
*Benediction
*Congregational Response“It Is Well With My Soul” (vs. 1 and chorus)
When peace, like a river, attendeth my way, when sorrows like
sea billows roll; whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,
It is well, it is well with my soul. It is well (with my soul), it is
well (with my soul), it is well, it is well with my soul!

The Scripture LessonsPsalm 95: 1-7 (NIV) Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song.
For the Lord is the great God,
the great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth,
and the mountain peaks belong to him.
The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land.
Come, let us bow down in worship,
let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
for he is our God
and we are the people of his pasture,
the flock under his care.
Psalm 150 (NIV)Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.
Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.
Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
praise him with timbrel and dancing,
praise him with the strings and pipe,
praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord.

HERE’S THE SCOOPMISSION 100 FUND - On each Sunday, September 22 and 29, the Mission Committee is
collecting a special Mission 100 offering for our Covenant Relationship with Missionary
Miguel Mairena. If 100 people contribute $25 towards our yearly commitment, we will
quickly meet our goal of $2500. However, any amount contributed will be much
appreciated and get us closer to our goal. Using the offering envelope provided in the
Sunday bulletin, checks may be written to La Plata UMC with 'Covenant Missionary' on the
memo line. Miguel is a Missionary with the Board of Global Ministries of The United
Methodist Church and represents the Baltimore-Washington Conference. He and his wife,
Nan McCurdy, also a B-W Conference Missionary, serve in Puebla, Mexico with Give Ye
Them To Eat. Look for information about Miguel and Nan's work with GYTTE at our Mission
Fair on Sept 29, or online at www.GYTTE.org This is your church making a positive impact!
CONFIRMATION CLASS - Confirmation Class has been postponed for this year. In order to
offer an experience with full discussion and group building we are waiting another year to
offer confirmation. Next summer we will again reach out to see who is interested in going
through the confirmation process.
PASTOR’S MONDAY NIGHT STUDIES (PMNS) - It's that time, Church family! This year in
the life of our church, it is time for REVIVAL! All the studies this year will be focused in some
way on reviving our hearts, our church, and our world! We start out on October 7 with a
comparative study of the "Five Marks Of A Methodist" AND "Five Means of Grace". Our
founder, John Wesley and his teachings/writings will figure prominently in our studies and,
in another year of uncertainty within our denomination, there is no better time than this to
remember and re-learn the reasons why Methodists are the People of God! Using SignUp
Genius (ain't technology grand?) you will be able to sign up for these studies. For those of
you who do not have access to email, you may also write PMNS on your attendance pad,
please indicate if you would like the church office to order your book. See you there!
DISCIPLE III COMING SOON - This Disciples III class is the "Fast Track" version which
consists of 24 weeks. I am happy to announce that Tina McCormick is leading this class
and it promises to be an amazing study of the Prophets and the Letters of Paul. Orientation
will be on Thursday, October 3 at 7:00 pm, in Room 102 (the old parlor). Classes will be
held each Thursday evening at 7:00 pm starting October 17. Sign ups are now open.
Please contact Tina McCormick at [email protected] , or Angie Barnes at
[email protected] if you wish to join the class or if you have any questions.
BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS - On October 27 beginning at 2:00 PM, we will be both
blessing animals and (if the contributions reach $1000.00) watching our Pastor, Susan
Boehl, kiss a puckered up cow. Just make a contribution to our fund to support the local
group "Help for Animals", and bring your well-behaved pet of any size, shape, or species
to the church on October 27. We will be welcoming the community and their animal
companions to receive a blessing from Pastor Susan.
Our partners from the Charles County Humane Society will be with us and they will be
bringing along a number of animals for you to interact with as well as information on
adopting from the society. Also with us will be PETCO with coupons and samples of the
products and services they offer for pets. Help for Animals will also be on hand to educate
us on the programs they support to help those who need assistance with caring for their
pets. Local Vets and Groomers will also be present. And as a special treat, the Charles
County Sheriffs's office K9 unit will be there with a demonstration starting at 3:00 PM.
Save the date and plan to be with us whether your animal is real, stuffed, or perhaps
even just a photograph of a beloved companion who has passed. The community is invited
and we are excited. Pick up a flyer with all the information in the church lobby or Narthex.
Note: dogs must be on leash, and cats and other small animals must be in
approved pet carriers.
CHURCH PICNIC - Our annual Church picnic will be held on Sunday, October 6 immediately
after the 11:00 worship service. This year's picnic will be a potluck so please bring a main
dish, side dish and/or dessert (enough to share), lawn chairs or blankets to sit on, and
beverages for your family. Please clearly label your dish and be sure to take it home with
you after the picnic.
APPALACHIA SERVICE PROJECT (ASP) - 2020 interest? Yes, it seems like we just got back.
But, we can begin reserving space for summer 2020 trips on Sept. 16. Please reply to John
Carns (text/cell - 301.848.0060 or e-mail - [email protected] ) to let him know which trip
(High School or Middle School) and how many folks might be interested. We just need an
approximate head count for now. You can also connect with John if you have any
questions.
COUNTDOWN FOR CHILDREN - The Countdown for Children ages 4 and up has begun. If
your child likes to sing or play an instrument (or even if you just want to have fun with other
kids and teens your age), please consider joining the Cherub Choir and Crimson Angels. ,
if you needed a little more incentive to join us, there is a direct connection between
participating in music activities (beyond simply listening with headphones) is shown to
improve academic performance and achievement. Cherub Choir is for those who are 4
years old and some elementary school. Crimson Angels is for older children to include
middle and high school. There also are options for specialty groups for solos, duets, and
targeted performances. Beginning September 18, choirs meet every Wednesday from 7
p.m. until 7:45 p.m. in the downstairs music room. Check out past music performances at
www.laplataumc.org/media (we are at the bottom of the page). We love and welcome
children of all ages, backgrounds and faiths. For more details, email: [email protected].
HELP WANTED - Are you technology savvy? Do you enjoy working with computers, or
audio and video systems? LPUMC Tech and Media team is looking for help in all areas of
technology. All are invited to share in this amazing ministry, making our services available
to anyone who is not able to attend. Work includes operating video cameras, sound boards,
presentations for Sunday services, computer and server maintenance, and network support.
If you are interested, please contact the church office.
OPPORTUNITY - Brothers and Sisters, the church is looking for some bi or tri-lingual help.
For some of our upcoming services, we would like to lift up languages other than English.
If you have the ability to speak Spanish, Italian, German, Latin, or other foreign languages,
would you make your ability known by marking your ability and language on the
Attendance pads or call the Church Office? It will be a help to our worship and a blessing
to you as you utilize your gifts for the Kingdom! Thanks in advance!
