Create in me a pure heart, O God,

or take your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
Lord, in your mercy, Amen.

“Lord, Who Throughout These Forty Days”
Prayer of Confession and PardonO God, as we enter into the journey of Lent, we realize and admit
that we are not prepared for you. In our lives there are still many
shadows, nooks and crannies where darkness still penetrates.
Create in us clean and contrite hearts, O God. Deliver us from our
complacency and our nature to settle for less than You. Forgive us
for the many ways we have grieved you and place us again on the
way that leads to life and life eternal. Search us and know us, O
God and transform all our dark places with Your Light.
(Silent Prayers of Confession)
Lift up your heads! Lift up your hearts! You have been far off have been
brought near by the blood of Christ. In the name of Jesus Christ, you have
been found forgiven!
In the Name of Jesus Christ, you have been found forgiven. Amen.
Passing the Peace of Christ
The Peace of the Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Let us greet our neighbors and extend God’s peace to each other.

The Scripture LessonsRomans 10: 8-13 (NIV)“The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message
concerning faith that we proclaim: If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,”
and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your
mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who
believes in him will never be put to shame.” For there is no difference between
Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on
him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Luke 4: 1-13 (NIV)Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the
wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing
during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry. The devil said to him,
“If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’
The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the
kingdoms of the world. And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and
splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. If you
worship me, it will all be yours.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord
your God and serve him only.”
The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the
temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here. For
it is written:
“‘He will command his angels concerning you
to guard you carefully; they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”
Jesus answered, “It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’
When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.

We have some completed shawls, so if youhave a friend or family member who would benefit from a prayer shawl, please give Karen a call in the office and she can arrange to make sure you get
one.
HOSPITALITY MINISTRY - Just say hi, that is how it starts! When a visitor orsomeone you do not know walks into service, it only takes a moment to say Hi!Once that happens, the sky is the limit! A simple “hello” opens the door to anew friend, a new member, a new opportunity to increase the Body of Christhere at La Plata Church. Look around and introduce yourself to someone thisSunday. Ask if it is their first time here, invite them to sit with you, show themwhere the Nursery is or how they can sign the Attendance Pads. Think back toyour first time at service. Who welcomed you? Hospitality means a lot! If youare excited to see new faces and have no trouble striking up a conversationwith a stranger, we would love for you to be a part of our new HospitalityTeam. See Pastor Susan for more information.

Manidokan is near Harpers Ferry WVA and West River is south ofAnnapolis. Both offer week long camps for children and youth entering grades2nd - 12th next fall. The cost for the week is about $485. La Plata UMC offerscampership money for any of our children or youth who want to attend! Pleasecontact Corrie Roberts for information about how our church can support yourcampers.
PLEASE INVITE YOUR FRIENDS - It is the simplest and most effective way toshare Christ with others: just invite your friends to church with you. Mostpeople who grew up as Christians and who aren't in a church say they justhaven't found a church they like, and because no one has invited them. Mostpeople if you ask, will say yes to an invitation. Just ask them to come to churchfor a special event, or special Sunday, or to hear a sermon you think will helpthem.
MAKE A NEW FRIEND TODAY - As you enter Church today to worship, lookaround and see if you can find someone you don't know. During Passing of thePeace, make a point to introduce yourself to them and invite them to join youin an activity of the Church. If you can't get to them during the Passing of thePeace, hang around for a bit after worship and strike up a conversation withthem. In time you'll discover if they are long lost members, or here for the firsttime. Either way, you get to make a new friend. Thank you for being one ofthe friendliest and most caring congregations around.
ADMINISTRATIONADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL - The next Administrative Council meeting will beheld on Tuesday, March 26 at 7:30 PM in Fellowship Hall 2.
STEWARDSHIP - Please be sure that the outer doors close firmly and arelocked when you leave the building. Turn out the lights when you leave aroom. Turn off the heat/air conditioner in the room you are using. These areall things we can do to keep our building secure, our members safe, and ouroperating costs down.
