Specifying Point Codes
SS7 variant must be specified before the local point code.
ITP(config)# cs7 point-code point-code
Specifies the primary point code for the ITP.
ITP(config)# cs7 secondary-pc point-code
Specifies a secondary point code for the ITP,
ITP(config)# cs7 capability-pc point-code

Logging Server Setup
Prior to Deployment, Make sure that for every ITP,logging Messages are sent to a Syslog Server
ITP(config)# logging trap <level> causes syslog messages to be encapsulated in a trap and sent as a trap. Level can be set as “debugging”
ITP(config)# Logging <SGM IP Address>Specifies the syslog server address.
ITP(config)# logging buffered 2000000 <level>Specifies the size in bytes of the buffer in ITP memory
© 2000, Cisco Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. ITP Course—Appendix B-9
Logging and SGM
ITP(config)# logging history 500 debugging For SGM pollings via SNMP . Here, at least a 500 syslog record buffer is reserved on the ITP for SGM. The logging level is set to debugging.

Configuration of Serial (V.35) as SS7
Defining Clocking• Only one end of the link requires this• itp(config)#int s0/0• itp(config-if)#clock speed 56000• itp(config-if)#clock rate 56000
Make sure that the cable is DCE at the proper end

Configuration of Channelized as SS7 (7500s)
ITP(config)# card type {e1 | t1} slot/bay
ITP(config)# controller {e1 | t1} slot/bay/port
ITP(config-controller)# channel-group number timeslots value {speed [56 | 64]}

Clocking (7500s)
ITP(config-controller)# clock source internal/ line primary/line secondary priority
For each line, priority ranges from 0 to 7 (8 E1 per “Hangten”).The E1 line with the highest priority drives the clock for the whole card (for all lines that are up on the card).
Internal option synchronizes to a Stratum 4 clock
Non used lines must be shutdown to avoid clocking issues
Option to synchronize to a Building Integrated Timing Source
ITP# show controller to find out the clocking configuration

Verification of LSL SS7 Configuration
controller (clocking, status, etc)• itp#show controller s0/0
Interface (status, encap, packets, etc)• itp#show interface s0/0• Interface up indicates physical connectivity is good• Protocol Down indicates that the link in not available at
MTP3 yet (not part of a linkset or not activated on remote side)

Configuration of Channelized E1 as SS7 (Optional)
ITP(config-controller)# framing {crc4 | no-crc4}, For Framing
ITP(config-controller)# linecode {ami | hdb3}For linecode
ITP(config-controller)# cablelength long [gain26 | gain36] [0db | -7.5db | -15db | -22.5db]

LSL Interface Configuration: MTP2 encapsulation
•MTP2Shows MTP2’s view of the link status (depends heavily on MTP3 starting the link)

LSL Linksets Configuration
ITP(config)# cs7 linkset ls-name adjacent-point-code
Specifies a linkset to an adjacent node and enters linkset configuration mode.
Tip: Usually it’s good to turn accounting on when creating linkset
ITP(config-cs7-ls)# accounting
ITP# show cs7 accounting

Assigning Links to Linksets
ITP(config-cs7-ls)# link slc serial number
Configures an SS7 link within a linkset and enters CS7 link configuration mode.
!!! SLC needs to be the same on both sides !!!

The Ping cs7 Command
ITP# ping cs7 point code
Sends (3) MTP3 messages to the point code.
Can be used on any type of link (MTP2, M2PA, HSL)
Only to ITPs. Other SS7 Nodes might not understand the command (although it is part of ITU recommendations)

Disabling Links
To prevent a link to carry traffic :
ITP# cs7 inhibit lsn slc
To disable a linkset :
ITP(config-ls)# shutdown
To disable a link :
ITP(config-ls-link)# shutdown
To disable a controller :
ITP(config-controller)# shutdown
