Principal’s Report
A huge ‘CONGRATULATIONS’ to the students from Labertouche
Primary School that participated in the 2016 Senior Athletics. As
Principal it was wonderful to hear that our school had managed to
win the overall championship after adjustment for student numbers.
I am perhaps even more proud of the manner in which our students conducted
themselves on the day; our behavioural expectations are high, our students met
those expectations and showcased our school values of Learn, Care, Respect and
Share (well perhaps not to the point of sharing the overall standings).
A big thank you to Mrs. Waterhouse – an outstanding organiser and leader, Mrs.
Waterhouse took on the role of District Sport Co-ordinator, and has done so with
aplomb. Our parents were asked to be photographers on the day, thank you, and
assisted our students to be at events on time. Hopefully the students provided those
parents with many positive memories on the day.
Michaela Whiting, our Lunchies co-ordinator, is very understanding given the
Lunchies forms were a touch late making their way out to students this time. Thank
you. Surprisingly a number of parents made the same observations about late
Lunchies known to me….
Sally Cook–Whiting has made her signature sausage rolls again and Linda
Ketteringham has donated her time to help out.
Jo Janssan was on the ball to organise one of next door neighbours, Jess Grayden, to
visit and provide us with a quote for blinds in areas that presently don’t have them.
Sandra Ottrey has kindly donated three pairs of kids football boots that have now
gone to very good homes. Thank you.
We are coming to the end of the testing phase of our assessment schedule. The staff
will follow up testing with ILP’s (individualised learning plans) that we will
provide to parents either at the end of Term 1 or the beginning of Term 2. These
ILP’s are dynamic documents that we can edit and change as the year progresses.
Parental feedback of these plans is essential to us providing your child or children
with learning that best meets their needs. Please keep in mind that we aren’t miracle
workers, and as professionals we will provide the learning structures and
environment that we feel will best allow us to work what little magic we have.
Together Everyone Achieves More.
Note: A reminder to any parents that have no returned their student information
detail form please do so ASAP.

MARC Van
This fortnight in MARC Library we have continued to focus on procedures. In our first session
everyone had the borrowing system explained to them as well as the School and Library expectations
with regard to behaviour. PLEASE! Everyone should now have a borrowing bag or satchel, clearly
marked MARC library. Books discussed in the first MARC sessions were ‘The Twits’ –Roald Dahl,
‘The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me’ – Roald Dahl and ‘NEW Year Surprise!’ – Christopher Cheng.
During the current fortnightly cycle Senior and Middle school students were introduced to
‘CYCLONE’ by Jackie French and used their research skills to expand upon knowledge related to the
text.
Students in F-2 classes focused on listening and borrowing skills. Students also were led towards
understanding that most books have a big idea. In Pamela Allen’s newest Picture Story Book, ‘The Big
Fish’ the big idea is shown to be co-operation. Well done everyone.

Art / Sport
The senior grade brought some of the outside inside during art this week. With the autumn leaves
beginning to change colour and ready to fall we thought we would draw them. The junior grade made
ladybugs with potato prints. With only a few colours to use the preps learned how to create green by
mixing yellow and blue.
Athletics day. What can I say?? Well done to
our senior students winning overall. The day
consisted of students grade 3-6 from Laber-
touche, Noojee, Longwarry, Jindivick, Neerim
South and Neerim District Primary schools. The
children in age groups participated in the follow-
ing events that they have been practising in
sport, discus, shot put, 100m, 200m, long jump,
triple jump and vortex. 800m participation was
up to individual student choice.
Our children participated with enthusiasm and
gave it their best shot. Overall we had two indi-
vidual age champions - Grace and Hamish. Well
done to both of them. With everyone's points
added together Labertouche the second smallest
school won the day overall. I couldn't have been
more proud of your efforts on the day.
Congratulations to Paige, Hamish and Ryan who
will be going on to Division in week 3 of term 2
in a range of events. Unfortunately due to her
age Grace won't get to go on but it was a great
practice for next year.

Senior Students
Grace and Rhys, our toasties monitors, have been doing a wonderful job looking after the sandwich
maker and helping cook classmates sandwiches while school jobs are being completed.
Kaitlyn, Nir,
Ryan, Rhys and
Riley enjoyed
reading about
frogs during lit-
eracy circles.
They were very
excited to learn
that a species of
frog from South
Africa can leap
an amazing 10.3
metres in just
three leaps!
Senior students cooking! Last Friday the senior class whipped up some amazing corn fritters which
they enjoyed eating with some sweet chilli sauce! As part of our healthy living unit, students also
made stick figure men using celery and carrots; there were some very fancy creations!
Students enjoying their toasties.

Worlds Greatest Shave
Kaitlyn Coad has courageously decided to support the Leukaemia foundation; a great cause.
Kaitlyn will be shaving her hair on:
Saturday 12th March at 11am until 3pm at Labertouche Community Centre.
There will be a sausage sizzle, face painting, we will be selling slices, coffee and tea, plus
there will be a band for entertainment.
We will also be doing raffles on the day with various hampers and vouchers to be won.
Kaitlyn and myself would like to thank yourself the other teachers and students and parents
for all the support in Kaitlyn's big choice of doing the Worlds Greatest Shave.
We would love the support of as many people as possible on the day.
Thankyou
Belinda Coad-Kupsch

Solution to last weeks Test Your Wits Puzzle
Move three coins only to turn the triangle upside down.
You need to move the top outside two coins to the third row
to make four coins across. Then move the coin in the forth
