Attheheartofthebookis"LaboratorioExpo,"aprojectconceivedin2012andmadeofficialinanagreementbetweentheGiangiacomoFeltrinelliFoundationandExpoMilano2015promotinginternationalresearchonissuesofsustainabledevelopment,anthropology,urbansociology,agricultureandFood.Theaimoftheprojectwastogatherthethoughts,ideasandcontentofthescientificbackboneofthe"MilanCharter,"theculturalheritageoftheUniversalExhibition.ThebookpresentationatSISSA,oneofthescientificpartnersofLaboratorioExpo,offersanimportantopportunityfordiscussingthecurrentstateofresearchindevelopingcountriesandthefuture,inTrieste,anlocationwhichisparticularlysensitivetothesetypesofissues.Triesteishometonumerousinternationalscientificinstitutionsinvariousfieldsprovidingscientificeducationandpromotinghealthindevelopingcountries.The"TriesteSystem,"developedoverrecentdecades,issynonymouswithoriginalityandeffectiveness:thousandsofstudentsfromdevelopingcountrieshavecome,andcontinuetoarriveinTriesteforalevelofeducationthatwouldbeimpossibletoobtaininthecountryoforigin,afterwhichtheyare
