LABORATORY EMERGENCY PROCEDURE
Revision 3
PURPOSE To ensure all personnel understand the evacuation procedures during fires and explosions, recognition of system alarms, and appropriate action in the event of spills of hazardous materials in the lab
REFERENCE ORS Emergency response (this LSI supersedes previous Environment SSI no 038 with same title after re-numbering as SOP-313)
PROCEDURE I. Spills of hazardous Materials.
Discover gives warn all persons nearby. Turn off any ignition sources such as burners, motors, and other spark-producing
equipment. Leave the room and close the door if possible. Call Handil RSES to report the hazardous material spill. RSES will contact emergency
response team for handling the hazardous material spills. (Detail procedure of chemical spill, please refer to LSI 5-007 regarding Chemical Spill in Laboratory).
II. The Chemical Spill on a Person.
Know where the nearest eyewash and safety shower are located. For small spills on the skin, flush immediately under running water for at least fifteen
minutes. Remove any jewelry that might contain residue. If there is no sign of a burn, wash the area
with soap under warm running water. For a chemical splash in the eyes, immediately flush the eyes under running potable water
for fifteen minutes, holding the eyes open and rotating the eyeballs. For spills on clothing, immediately remove contaminated clothing, including shoes and
jewelry, while standing under running water or the safety shower. Consult the MSDS to see if any delayed effects should be expected. Evacuate the victim to the clinic for medical treatment
