Report of Quantitative Analysis of Urolith (Approximate Percentages) No measureable components Calcium Oxalate Monohydrate: 45% Calcium Oxalate Dihydrate: 55% No measureable components No measureable components _______________________________________________________________________________ Recommendations to minimize recurrence: Canine Calcium Oxalate Diagnostics: • Serum calcium. Investigate causes for hypercalcemia, when present. • Genetic test for hypercalciuria type 1 in dogs < 3 years old Treatment: • Potassium citrate if urine pH is consistently <6.5 (starting dose: 75mg/kg q12-24h). • Correct hypercalcemia based on cause (e.g. parathyroidectomy for primary hyperparathyroidism) • Hydrochlorothiazide with highly recurrence stones (2mg/kg q12-24) in normocalcemic dogs. Nutritional: • Low protein/sodium foods that do not overly acidify urine (e.g. c/d multicare, g/d, i/d low fat, others). Feed canned therapeutic foods or add water to achieve a urine specific gravity <1.020 _______________________________________________________________________________ Comments Location: Bladder Specimen consists of multiple intact urolith(s). The sample was submitted dry. Detailed recommendations can be found here: http://z.umn.edu/mnurolithRX Support from Hills Pet Nutrition , veterinarians, and pet owners make this analysis possible.
