I am pleased to announce that North America’s Building Trades Unions will host this year’s 2018 Labor of Love Tournament in the City of Brotherly Love – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I would also like to

personally thank John Dougherty, Wayne Miller and the entire Philly Building Trades for all their assistance in helping us put together this year’s program.

We have some extraordinary events lined up this year – including the golf tournament at the famed Philadelphia Cricket Club, a Welcome Reception at the National Constitution Center, the Masters Tournament at Stonewall Country Club, our annual Softball Slam at the Campbell’s/ Rutgers Baseball Stadium (Camden, NJ), a NEW event – Team Bowling, and our Texas Hold’em Poker tournament – which will both be held at Lucky Strike Philadelphia.

As we enter our 32nd year, NABTU’s support for the Diabetes Research Institute’s (DRI) effort to find a cure remains unwavering. As for our affiliates, owners, contractor partners, vendors and sponsors that have teamed up with us in our fight to deliver a cure, we know we wouldn’t be on the doorstep without your engagement.

For the past several years, we have kept you abreast of the medical advancements being made by the DRI. I am pleased to report that, in addition to the BioHub Trials recently shared, several promising initiatives at the Diabetes Research Institute are ready to be tested in patients now, and new clinical trials have already received FDA approval. Also, the Diabetes Islet Preservation Immune Treatment (DIPIT) and Low-Dose Imteruken-2 in Established T1-D (Low dose IL-2) are focused on tracking the challenges of the immune system. These two treatments make a total of 5 clincial trials progressing simultaneously, which is unprecedented in the history of the DRI and represents a significant step forward in the DRI’s search for a biological cure.

Your continuous support for the Labor of Love program no longer has us hoping for the day when diabetes will be cured, but instead, knowing that day will soon come. As quickly stated above, the DRI’s research progress is accelerating the timeline and allowing us the opportunity to envision a cure’s reality.

When we reflect back, we realize it is because of “You” that the DRI has had the opportunity to make breakthroughs, change lives, and place us on a path to a cure. We are grateful for your partnership and appreciate your continued support of our annual charity event.

We look forward to seeing you in Philadelphia in June.
