a simple lace-leaf patterned hat to wear for all seasons. knit it in cotton to wearon a spring day or summer evening; or, knit it with wool yarn to stay warm in the

yarn Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk Aran (or any aran-weightyarn).
needles Size 9 (5.5 mm), 16 in circular and dpns.notions Stitch markers and tapestry needle.
gauge Approximately 16 sts and 18 rows = 4 in (10cm).finished size Approximately 18 in (20 cm) around.

pattern description
this pattern contains instructions for knitting the lace leaf hat in two sizes: child (adult). both hatsbegin with twisted-stitch for 7 rows (about 1.5 in). the child-sized hat follows the lace leaf ChartA, the adult-sized hat follows the lace leaf Chart B. the lace leaf pattern repeats with a multipleof to stitches and 16 rows. the finished hat is very stretchy, especially in the Debbie Bliss AlpacaSilk yarn.

ktbl :: knit the stitch through the back loop.ptbl :: purl the stitch through the back loop.ssk :: slip 1 stitch knitwise, slip another stitch knitwise, pass stitches back onto left needle andknit the 2 stitches together through the back loop.sk2po :: slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit the next 2 stitches together and pass the slipped stitch over it.
:: special instructions
for both Charts A and B, begin rounds 7 and 23 as follows:remove the stitch marker, slip the first stitch without knitting it, and place the marker to indicatethe new beginning of the round.

CO 70 (80) sts. PM and join for knitting in the round.Rnds 1-7 :: *ktbl, ptbl; rep from * to end.Next rnd :: k all sts.Next :: for a child’s hat, complete Chart A. for an adult’s hat, complete Chart B. refer to patterndescription :: special instructions for beginning of rounds 7 and 23.
cut the yarn, leaving a tail appoximately 6 in long for finishing.
:: finishing
to finish use a tapestry needle to insert into each stitch knitwise. pull the tail to gather the stitchestogether. insert the end of the yarn into the hat and weave in the loose ends. block as necessary.
