Meeting and Event Schedule
reflect the pride
of a management
team that has been
in place for many
years, and the
restaurant is a great
favorite of locals.Our premier rooms
are done in a Louis
XVI classical dcor
and offer large
marble baths with all the expected amenities. There is also a large
spa on site. (See www.Alvearpalace.com)
Everything is upside down in Argentina: Our summer is their
winter and vice-versa. The further south one travels, the colder
the weather; the further north, the warmer. Siestas and a vigorous
nightlife are part of a culture that seeks the most from life. Futbol
(soccer), food, fashion, music, cafes and politics are the passions
of the city. Buenos Aires is an enlightening experience and anenchanting change for the 2010 annual meeting.
ARGENTINAis an enormous land, 900 by 2,100 miles, theeighth largest country in our world. It is blessed by a legendary
landscape bathed by the mists of the Atlantic Ocean to the east
and crowned in the west by the snow-capped peaks of the Andes.
Between are the extensive rural cattle ranches (estancias) of the
Pampas and the glorious capital city of Buenos Aires, site of the
2010 annual meeting.
BUENOS AIRES is many things: culinary creativity, world-class beef and wines, the seductive tango danced on street
corners until the first light of dawn,
the widest street in the world, stately
architecture, colorful pedestrian
zones, gorgeous shops and elegant
afternoon teas.
Your hotel, the Alvear Palace, is in
a neighborhood of ornate embassies
and fine shops and is the pillar of
tradition in Buenos Aires. Its beaux-
arts style and gracious service
Tuesday, April 13
Morning tour of the suburb of Tigre by riverboat. Cruise past stone
mansions, English cottages, Italian Villas, and the rowing and yacht
clubs. This is a good look at local luxury living with Argentine wines
and cheeses along the way. Return in time for a leisurely lunch
downtown (lunch hour begins about 2:00pm.)
Evening:Optional dinner and tango night at El Viejo Almacen. Aninteresting format starting with dinner in one building followed by the
show with dancers, singers and musicians across the street.
Wednesday, April 14
Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch: A day in the life of the pampas on
an estate of one of the great landowners. Our host is the Estancia
El Rosario de Areco. Here is a place to absorb the music, song and
spirit of the gauchos at an outdoor asado (barbecue) with Argentine
beef cooked over open fires and complemented by fine Argentine
wines. The gauchos will display their mastery of horsemanship and
there will be a demonstration of polo. You will need a long siesta at
the end of the day.

San Martin is where many locals go and offers a wide variety of
shops featuring Argentine leather goods and clothing at prices not
found in the USA. Your guide will show you the way and point out a
nice caf or two for a mid-morning coffee.
Afternoon tour of the city highlighting the Casa Rosada (their White
House), the cathedral, Avenida Nuev de Julio (wider than the
