Yengo Yarns… This week during our literacy sessions
we have been reading “Drought” by Jackie French. Each
student designed their own word bank featuring
adjectives to describe how it would feel to be battling
drought in real life. Later in the week they will be using
these words to plan and write a narrative using “Drought” as the story
starter.
In Maths this week our focus has been fractions. Yengo
students have been busily revising and learning new
concepts through hands on tasks completed in groups as
well as independently.
Congratulations to all Yengo students who completed
their homework for Week 1. It was truly great to see the
Finchley news.. Odd or even? We are exploring which numbers are divisible by
two, and which are not in Maths this week. We created a colourful display to help us
remember our odd and even numbers. Kinders are counting anything they can using ordinal
numbers. As we come into the room, each student takes a number and we have to line up
in order (without speaking!) - who is 1st, 2nd, 3rd..all the way to 17th. We are very
speedy!
In History we are examining the lives of
children who grew up in the 1940s and 1950s -
our grandparents! We have learned that people
used to take their chairs, thermos, rugs and the
whole family would sit outside a shop that sold
televisions, just to watch a black and white TV
without sound!
We are always working on becoming the best
readers we can in the Finchley classroom. This term we are placing particular focus on our
LOST PROPERTY The boxes at the rear of the library are quite full with plastic containers and clothing.
Please check the boxes for any items you may be missing.

Warrawalong warblings….That was a huge storm
over the weekend, and our students came to school with some
amazing stories! This week students wrote poems to express
what they experienced. Thank you to Piper, Jesse and Tristan for
sharing!

premieres a new Australian play in November
For over twenty years Valley Artists has brought a range of plays to the stage at Laguna Hall: comedies, mysteries, old plays … and brand new ones. On 9 November THE SCULPTURE GARDEN, by actor/playwright Noel Hodda, makes its first appearance. The play curls and turns like the tendrils of a vine. From Paris to the Australian bush, love winds itself around people through time and place. There is romance … loss … recovery. Nothing is as it seems … or is it? There are secrets … surprises …. shifts in the light ….. Bob Philippe, who has directed many of Valley Artists’ produc-tions over the years, is director on THE SCULPTURE GARDEN; he also directed - to popular acclaim - Valley Artists’ 2013 premiere of Noel Hodda’s play ACROSS THE WATER. Those who saw that one will know that this new Hodda work will be very special. Bob’s cast is drawn from the remarkable talents in the Wollombi Valley and beyond: Siobhan Dillon, Rod Sinnamon, Karen Jones, Charlie Kessler, Karen Toohey and Ross Fletcher are bringing this new play to life for the first time. Another first-rate production from Valley Artists not to be missed, THE SCULPTURE GARDEN opens at 8pm at Laguna Hall, 3734 Great North Road, Laguna on Friday 9 November and con-tinues Sat 10, Sun 11, then Wed 14 through to Sat 17 November 2018. Tickets $30 adult and $25 concession are available at www.valleyartists.org or direct from Wollombi General Store and GNTP (Great Northern Trading Post, Laguna).
THE SCULPTURE GARDEN is rated M.
Stars of the Week!
Thank you to Foxx from Finchley, Meg from Yengo and Jade from Warrawalong for
working so hard to uphold our school values of Respect, Responsibility, Courage,
Honesty and Compassion!
