Happy New Year! Even with an extra day (2016 was a leap year), the year flew by all too quickly. With the start of a new year, it is only natu- ral to look back at the year that just ended. A chance to review what we accomplished. A new year brings a fresh start, an opportunity to start over and, maybe, do things differently. That is why we make New Year’s resolutions. Here at Lake Greeley Camp, we only have one resolution for 2017, and that is to make this summer the best ever. We are already hard at work to make sure it happens. How will you know if we keep our promise? There is only one way; you’ll have to come to camp on June 25th to find out. Because, after all, that’s when the fun begins! Now that the holidays are over and we have returned to our regular routines, we can finally concentrate on the important stuff, like this year’s Winter Reunion. The Winter Reunion is by far the most anticipated off-season camp event of the year. Coming together as a camp after months of being apart is exhila-rating for everyone; campers, staff members, and parents. Simply put, it is amazing! This year’s reunion will be held on January 22nd from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Sportime USA.Located in Elmsford, New York, Sportime USA is an indoor amusement center that is huge, 24,000 sq. ft., that’s nearly twice the size of the gymnasium at camp. It’s filled wall-to-wall with games and amusements that will make your mouth drool, and the whole place has been reserved exclusively for Lake Greeley Camp. That’s right, all that Sportime USA has to offer is ours for the entire three hours!

During the reunion we have unlimited use of:• amusement rides: bumper cars, Himalaya roller coaster, mini-twister, and

the brand new super fly• Lasertron laser tag - 3,000 sq. ft. glow-in-the-dark arena• 24 ft. climbing wall• batting cages• 3 level indoor playground filled with slides, climbing mazes,

and ball pits• 150 arcade games - each camper gets an unlimited use

arcade card• XD Theater - a 4 dimensional interactive ride

There is so much more to this reunion than just fun and games. It is a great opportunity to get together with your friends from the summer, catch up on what’s been happening since the end of camp and reminisce about the great times we shared this past summer. We’ll be serving bagels, donuts, and juice in our party room throughout the reunion, present a slide show of pictures we’ve taken from last summer, and even hold a Lucky Lotto raffle drawing. It’s guaranteed FUN!For more information on Sportime USA including driving directions, visit their website at www.sportimeusa.com.There’s no charge to attend the winter reunion, and it is open to Lake Greeley Camp campers from previous summers and new campers who are enrolled for the 2017 summer, their siblings and, of course, parents.Lake Greeley Camp staff members will be present at Sportime USA during the reunion. We, however, recommend that a par-ent or adult guardian accompany all campers to the reunion and remain at Sportime USA. Parents can relax and enjoy a coffee and free Wi-Fi in the adult’s lounge inside Sportime USA. We’ll make sure you get a raffle ticket too!Registration for the winter reunion is required. You can register two ways: on-line directly from the Lake Greeley Camp’s Winter Reunion webpage at www.lakegreeley.com/about/winter.html or you can download the registration form at www.lakegreeley.com/forms/reunionregistration.pdf. 2016 continued from page 1 Staff NewsOccasionally staff members will share with us news about what they have been doing while they are away from camp. It is truly gratifying to learn of their academic achievements, professional accomplishments as well as other significant events in their lives. Recently, we received an email from a former counselor, Rachel Chalmers, who informed us of her wedding to another former staff member, Moray Greig. We were overjoyed with the news.Moray’s first summer at Lake Greeley Camp was in 2004. He was a counselor and rock climbing instructor. He re-turned in 2005 as the Mountain Biking Supervisor, and in 2006, he accepted an 18-month internship with the camp and worked as a full-time senior staff member through August, 2007. Rachel arrived at Lake Greeley Camp in 2006 as a coun-selor and tennis instructor, that is when she and Moray first met. During their experience at Lake Greeley Camp, both Moray and Rachel distinguished themselves as exceptional staff members. Their compassion, patience, and dedication to the child they supervised made them ideal role models for our counselors and campers. On October 29th, joined by family and friends, Rachel and Moray exchanged wedding vows. Their ceremony took place on a beautiful fall afternoon at the Mar Lodge located in Scotland’s majestic Cairngorms National Park.Congratulations Moray and Rachel! Did we mention they met at Lake Greeley Camp?

Matt’s Facts of the Day (of the Month)

It has been quite some time since the last installment of Matt’s Facts of the Day. Campers have been wondering when it would be coming. Well, your wait is finally over. Just in time, Matt has assembled a special New Year’s themed Facts of the Day.Campers, you know the routine. Clap twice and say, “Facts!” after you read each of the following facts!

Fact #1: - The Time Square New Year’s Eve Ball was first dropped in 1907. The tradition has continued in Times Square, except for in 1942 and 1943. The ball was not lowered because of wartime restric-tions.

Fact #2: - In addition to the ball drop in Times Square, resi-dents in Lebanon, Pennsylvania drop bologna at midnight. In Mount Olive, North Carolina, they drop a pickle, and in Folly Beach, South Caro-lina, they drop a pair of flip flops.
