Kindergarten Welcome
Welcome to our Kindergarten students this week. All students have
settled very well into the school, at this stage, and are enjoying making
new friends, getting to know the Kindergarten teachers and sharing
playground time with buddies from Year 6. From Monday, students will
settle into their regular classes with their permanent teacher. It has been
wonderful to visit the kindergarten students and see the smiles in their
faces as they start their learning journey at school.
P&C Invitation
I would like to invite parents to come along to the first meeting of the
P&C on Tuesday 19th February at 6.30pm in the school staffroom. Our
P&C have been very successful and have played an essential part in
organising community events, fundraising and being part of the decision-
making processes of the school.
Please come along and see what this very friendly and welcoming team
is all about.
The P&C Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 19th
March 2019.
PBL News
After a very successful roll-out of Positive Behaviour for Learning in 2018, we are looking forward to another great year. Our school expectations of Respect, Responsibility and Personal Best will continue to be our focus for behaviour and learning within the school. The PBL team will be busy planning reward days, buy-in events for the students and special assemblies. Please encourage your child to always follow the school expectations and be respectful, responsible and to always give their personal best.
Voluntary Contributions
Each year parents are asked to pay a voluntary contribution of $40. This contribution helps to pay for resources used within the school. Year 5 and 6 students will be requested to purchase the Stage 3 Toolkit in lieu of the voluntary contribution. We make every effort to minimise the cost to families. A note providing more information about Voluntary Contributions will come out to families in the near future.

High School Students is the playground
If you have requested your high school student to collect a younger sibling from LMPS, please
discuss with them the importance of being respectful and following the requests of teachers and office
staff while in the school grounds. Earlier this week we had an incident of rudeness directed at the
office staff.
All high school students are required to be seated in the courtyard area near the school gates, remain
seated there until the bell, and to respect the area they are seated in. I ask they take their rubbish
with them, speak respectfully (no foul language) and quietly and to follow staff requests when
required.
Bikes
We have had reports of pedestrians being hit and knocked over by students riding bikes over the
bridge. To ensure the safety of our students and community members we request that students walk
there bikes on the pathway and over the bridge.
Headlice
Headlice are a concerning problem for all schools. Please check your child’s hair regularly. If lice or
eggs (nits) are detected, please treat your child’s hair with the appropriate treatments available from
pharmacies. Household items such as brushes, linen and pillows need to be treated as well for the
whole family.
Impetigo
Impetigo is an infection of the skin caused by bacteria. It is often called school sores because it is
common amongst school aged children. We have had a number of incidences impetigo already this
year. Please see below information for treatment of impetigo.

Postcards
It was wonderful to see many LMPS postcards sent out this week. Our school postcards are sent to
families as a special surprise, acknowledging students who display our school expectations of
Respect, Responsibility and Personal Best. Keep an eye on your letterbox in case one comes your
way!
It has been a smooth start to our 2019 school. I look forward to an exciting year!

The School Locker has received a great response from the school community with the
back to school uniforms. This time of year is a busy one, we have had a supply issue
with hats and are anticipating the delivery for early March. Children can wear a hat
from home if they are waiting on the new hats to arrive.
Please remember that The School Locker is a retail shop and completely independent
to the school. Lake Munmorah Public School now have the convenience of having the
shop at the school so close to home.
How can I buy new uniforms?
You can buy uniforms in opening hours

LIBRARY NEWS Welcome back for 2019
All the classes have visited the library this week. We looked at Chinese New Year, shared a story and talked about some customs associated with this world event. Just a reminder that with library this year, ALL students will need a library bag in order to
borrow. As the rule is NO BAG – NO BORROWING. It is not necessary to purchase an expensive bag, just a 15c bag from Coles or Woolies marked with your child’s name and class is adequate (and it’s waterproof!) This would be greatly appreciated. Many students who brought bags to library this week have already borrowed. Let’s hope there’s lots more next week.
Here are the Library days for this year:
Please handle your Library books with lots of TLC and return them on time to the Library.
BOOK CLUB ISSUE 1 Another year of Book Club has started! Issue 1 has been sent home with some classes this week and will continue to go out next week. If you would like to order any books, please return your completed order forms & payment to the school office or library in a marked envelope. Alternatively, you can submit your order and pay directly online via the Scholastic Book Club LOOP (online or download the app for your phone). Please see the back of the catalogue for instructions on how to order and pay. Your child’s order will be sent directly to school with the school’s Book Club order. All orders must be in by Thursday 21
st February.

$100 VOUCHER FOR CHILDREN’S SPORT AND FITNESS FEES Parents in NSW can again claim $100 towards extra-curricular sport and other physical activity fees in 2019 thanks to the NSW Government’s Active Kids program. This program provides a $100 voucher for parents to put towards sporting fees and registration costs for each school-aged child in NSW. Families can use the voucher for registration and membership costs, as well as fees for activities such as swimming and dance. The annual voucher will not be means tested because the NSW Government wants every child from every family to get active and involved in community sport and fitness. The health of our children is a priority for the NSW Government, and it is hoped that this makes a difference in enabling you to enrol your child in the sport or physical activity of your choice. More details about the program and how to download your voucher is available at sport.nsw.gov.au/activekids or by phoning Service NSW on 13 77 88.
