● James B. Duke saw potential in the Carolinas for the textile in

● Lake Norman received it’s named from Duke Power’s retired
Norman Atwater Cocke● The lake had been predicted to be an inland sea and the end
miles long and eight miles wide at its widest point
● Lake Norman has a surface area of 32,500 acres and it has a 5
shoreline
● The lake is 130 feet deep at its deepest point and contains 3.4gallons of water.
