St. Andrew Bay Resource Management Association LAKE POWELL CLEANUP OCEAN CONSERVANCY International Coastal Cleanup – September 21 st , 2013 / 8am-2 pm LAKE POWELL PARK “More the 500,000 volunteers picked up 10 million pounds of trash during the 2012 International Cleanup.” In our little corner of this earth, we have a very unique and precious resource. LAKE POWELL was designated an Outstanding Florida Waterway in 1991. It is among the largest of the rare Coastal Dune Lakes which occur in only a few places around the world. The Lake Powell ecosystem is known for it's beauty and biodiversity, as well as, it's exceptional recreational and educational opportunities. The Lake Powell Community Alliance and the St. Andrew Bay Resource Management Association are two local organizations dedicated to protecting this natural resource. Together with the Friends of Camp Helen State Park, we invite you to join us in a community effort to “JOIN the TEAM/KEEP it CLEAN”. On Saturday, September 21 st we will host the Ocean Conservancy International Coastal Cleanup. Sign-in begins at 8am at the Lake Powell Park [boat ramp] or at Camp Helen State Park. The Cleanup will last until noon. From 12-2pm at Lake Powell Park come visit with the LPCA, RMA, and other groups at their 'Eco-booths'. Learn about conservation efforts. And we will have a 'Chance Drawing' by donation and you may win some very nice prizes! This is a great opportunity to bring our community together for a common cause! We will provide: vinyl gloves, garbage bags, data cards, snack What to bring: closed toed shoes, hat, sunscreen, 'grabber', work gloves Feel free to bring your boat, canoe, kayak or paddleboard and join the armada of cleanup crews! Be sure to bring your required life jacket and whistle. SCHEDULE 8:00 - 9:00 am – Sign-in 9:00 - 12 noon -- Lake Clean-up 12:00 - 2 pm -- Lunch / Eco booths / Chance Drawing ST. The RMA also coordinates Turtle Watch, Seagrass, Scallop and Shoreline Restoration Programs.
