IAB MACRAO Participation• We participated again this year in the 2009 Fall
MACRAO events.• MACRAO calendar was updated in mid-summer.• LSSU Admissions office and the IAB are working
very well together.• LSSU Admissions counselors continue to be
appreciative of our participation and especially the NEW Recruiting/Press Kit.

IAB MACRAO ParticipantsFall 2009
• Bob Andersen• George Bielis (Chicago area)• Fred Berg• Nathan Callaghan• Chris Conklin• Jim Gibbs• Steven Kars (UP Michigan)• Ralph Larsen• Don Stephanic11/6/2009 12
Thoughts/Sharing• MACRAO events are well organized and the
students and parents look forward to attending these events to help in deciding career and education choices.
• MACRAO events were again focused regionally this year.
• Our Recruiting/Press Kit is a HUGE SUCCESS!
11/6/2009 13
Thoughts/Sharing
• The Recruiting/Press kits were completed and distributed to the Admissions people in time for the Fall 2009 recruiting season.
• At MACRAO events, do we see having an additional LSSU table for Engineering and Technology as mission critical, important, or nice to have?
• If we had a separate table would we also need a separate table cover with LSSU logo and Engineering and Technology?
11/6/2009 14
Thoughts/Sharing• What about having the Recruiting/Press kit on
line in PDF format via the Engineering and Technology website?
• What about having the Recruiting/Press kit on a CD to hand out at the MACRAO events?
• Support in the Chicago area with George Bielis is an example of supporting Admissions and the IAB outside of Michigan.
11/6/2009 15
Thoughts/Sharing• LSSU is still a major UNKNOWN in the field of
engineering and technology.• IAB participation in MACRAO events is a very
UNIQUE and POSITIVE INFLUENCE on student choice.
• Can we INCREASE the number of IAB members who participate in these events for the Fall of 2010?
11/6/2009 16
…in closing• We all enjoy supporting these events, it is a
rewarding experience to be able to provide information that may be used in a student’s decision making process for their educational and career choices.
• The Spring 2010 MACRAO events are coming up after the beginning of the new year, I will again post an email soliciting your support.
11/6/2009 17
THANK YOU• A special THANK YOU to all of the IAB membership
that submitted key information for the Recruiting/Press Kit.
• A special THANK YOU to all of the IAB membership that supported the Fall 2009 MACRAO events. Your support is greatly appreciated and I hope that we can have more of the membership participate in future events.
• You can make a difference in the lives of young people as they make their education and career choices.

What’s new in… Mechanical Engineering ?
● After multiple reorganizations, we’re once again…
the “Department of Mechanical Engineering”
● New faculty member: Dr.Sai Nudurupati
▫ joins us from NJIT (a nest of Yankees fans)
▫ background in particle coagulation usingelectromagnetics (e.g., of interest in theproduction of pharmaceuticals)
● ME curriculum ▫ Will replace electronics course (EGEE305) ▫ … with expanded technical electives.
○ for Vehicle Systems Option – EGEE280 – 3 credit signal processing ○ for Robotics & Automation Option –
Choice of… EGEE280 (Signal Analysis) or EGNR310 Quality Ctrl or EGME312 CNC course
(new 3 cr vers. to incorp. simul n bef cutting) ′○ for General Option – same 3 as for R&A added to the list, and we’ll now specify
same number of credits as other 2 options, incl 2 courses at 400-level.
● ME Lab Facilities ▫ Dynamometer test cell now active
○ Torque vs rpm at tires ○ Drivetrain NVH ○ Power vs rpm at tires ○ Hill climb simulation ○ Acceleration Performance ○ Shock loading drivetrain ○ Rolling resistance (mini-baja)
▫ New ultrasound / acoustic emission transducers ○ through PDC
○ together with existing equipt, creating real capabilities in machinery monitoring, NDT, and NVH areas
