1963 Physical Education: President Kennedy’s speech challenged America’s youth in their physical fitness and LW students were directed to rise above the national average.

1972 Letterman’s Club: Revived this year 1972-73 Physical Education: Handball, lacrosse, advanced
gymnastics, wilderness activities, and leisure activities were added to PE Curriculum broadening and meeting students new interests.
1972 Title IX Passage: Huge impact on programs being offered at LW, with Title IX prohibiting discrimination on the basis of gender in educational institutions receiving federal financial assistance

1975 Softball: In these initial years of the team at LW, softball games were umpired by LW teachers and staff.
1975 Physical Education: The infamous trampoline is still being used in the LW P.E. curriculum.
1975 Soccer: As soccer had not become an “official” sport at LW for girls, they managed to bring girls together from Redmond, Juanita and Rose Hill Jr. High to form an LW Soccer Team.
1975 – 1979 Physical Education: Boys and Girls P.E. classes were still separate but program variety increased with boys offering “Weight Training and Physiology” and girls offering “Body Conditioning”.

1992 Softball: The girls softball team switched from slow pitch to fast pitch softball.

2000 – 2004 Student Athletes: The Seattle Thunderbird professional hockey players were enrolled at LW as students during their sport season.
2000 – 2004 Extreme Sports: Many more students showed an interest in the “extreme” sports of snowboarding, skateboarding, rock climbing, martial arts, mountain biking, and wake boarding.
2000 Football: Football team made it to the playoffs for the first time in 10 years!
2000 Girls Basketball: First girls team to play in Holiday Hoop Fest @ Key Arena.

1995 Athletics: Freak waxing mistake on gym floor forces PE classes, teams and 1st Pep Assembly out onto Mac Field.
