What's in it for us? What does this mean for Lakefield and it's residents? This is

here the communication with the public is key. We want to know exactly, as an

emized list, what we have now, and what the proposal will give us. We request this

formation in simple, straight forward language. (Refer to the handout)ith recent burglaries, break-ins, theft and violent crime, we cannot afford less then we

ve now. Through this proposal, If our police service and protection is compromised

the least, the public is not interested. If police presence in our community is reduced

response times are increased, we are not interested. A step backward in our police

esence and service is not an acceptable positive change for the community. If the

ounty is selling this as a positive for Lakefield, which it might be, then prove it. Sell this

oposal by providing the information to the public. What would be better about

ounty involvement? What would be better about a disbanded Lakefield Police

epartment in favor of a County contract? How is it better for Lakefield? That is thetimate simple question. it is the Board and Council's responsibility to produce

nderstandable information that proves this is a positive change.

How will this communication happen? I request a commitment from the Council that

l options are clearly given to the public by, at least, this information being published by

e LakefieJdStandard, and through open meetings, as suggested by our Mayor. AND,

at this information is given, and open meetings held, well in advance of any

cision that will be made by the Council. It is critical; the public is given the

pportunity to either support or challenge this change to our community. The Council

ust be fully aware of the public's feeling toward this proposal PRIOR to any officialcisions being made. Is it possible to have a path established for opening up this line

communication by the Council meeting on the 7th?

Show us the money. We want full disclosure on the details of the cost savings. If this

ove is in fact a cost saving measure, then we need to see the cost savings itemized and

ared with the public. If you are asking that we as a City give up our police

partment, for good, then we need to see it pay, not only for the short-term, but for

e long run

uestions: Is the cost savings significant? We understand this has be~n looked at by

e Lakefield Council before, with no real cost savings ~ a reduction in police service.ill this cost savings continue over the long run,. or is it short-lived? and , Is it

ough to justify losing our department and co'ntrol over our own law enforcement to

ckson County? And again, any compromise of our current level of police service in

e name of cost reduction is not acceptable and is a move in the wrong direction.

e looking forward to considering this option with you as the details are communicated

the public.
