Daily recyclable waste can be conveniently collected in the smaller bin and once full can be transferred to the outdoor bin. Walls get a fresh coatWith exposure to the harsh weather, the common area boundary walls in a few locations were found to be chipped with paint peeling off. The damaged walls are undergoing repair and maintenance through plastering and painting to give the community a makeover.

The long line of contractor vehicles waiting to enter the community will be a thing of the past with the construction of a lay-by The Lakes Gate 1 entrance. Previously, the large volume of contractor vehicles would create a tailback, while Security inspected entry permits and documentation to ensure only authorised contractors enter the community. With the lay-by now in place, contractors can stop for verification without impeding traffic flow at the gatehouse.

Easy way in!

Swaying palms for swimming poolsThe cool blue of the pools will now be complemented with a touch of green, as non-performing palm trees are being replaced with new ones. We expect the project to be completed within the second quarter of 2016.

Besides increasing the greenery, this initiative will enhance community aesthetics.

The sandy areas at the rear entrance of some villas are being paved to provide residents more convenience when accessing their home. The work is expected to be completed by the third quarter. In addition to this, paving work will soon start on some of the villa utility cabinets to enable authorised technicians to easily access the cabinets for readings and repairs.

Did you take notice of the change at the gatehouse? The monumental gatehouse signage which was removed a few years ago due to the widening of Al Asayel road has been reinstalled. Visitors and guests will now find it even more convenient to locate the community.

Wider space to walk to schoolDid you notice that the pathway leading toward DIA School is now completely sand-free? The interlock tiling around this access gate has been extended to provide pedestrians and school kids with a wider walkway. Rectification work of uneven interlocks is also being done at various other locations across the community.

Road safety mattersSpeeding vehicles are a safety risk to residents and visitors of the community. And it is of paramount importance to prevent this unsafe practice in the community. So to discourage speeding and improve pedestrian safety, construction of new speed humps are planned for the LHHA ring road. These speed humps will be constructed in eight various locations with three high table interlock speed humps being developed around the roundabout near the Community Centre and another five more asphalt speed humps around the ring road. In addition to speed humps, six solar flashers will also be installed so motorists are cautioned to slow down near pedestrian crossings.

We urge you to follow speed limits and observe road safety.

This year too, our clothes banks located at your community mosques are open for donation. • Football tournament: Our annual indoor football tournament at Sports Zone, Fitness First offers participants to kick up some footy fun and a chance to win trophies. • Daily Iftars at mosques: Daily Iftars are a regular feature at all our community mosques and prayer halls serving up an average of 3,000 Iftar meals in a day. • Iftar for service providers: We treat our onsite support staff as well with an Iftar evening to spread the spirit of sharing and honour their hard work in our communities.

Are you a responsible pet owner?

Thank youfor cleaning up after

your pet

When walking a pet in the common areas of the community, pet ownersshould clean their pet’s waste using the available disposal bags and discard it in the designated bins. This is one of the most important steps in responsible pet ownership and ensures a caring, clean and environment for all residents.

Here are some tips on what you should do as a responsible pet owner:• Make sure that your pet is kept on a lead at all times when in a common area of the community• Educate your household staff about cleaning up after pets when walking them• Ensure you close all doors and gates after you to avoid pets straying into common areas• Register your dog with the Veterinary Services Section of Dubai Municipality

Vacation calling? Here’s a quick home safety checklistSummer’s here and for many of us that means it’s time for a holiday. Here are few simple things you can do to keep your home safe so you can enjoy yourself, instead of worrying about your home.

Start with your doorstepNothing is more of a giveaway than newspapers piled outside your door; so put your subscription on hold when you travel. You could also ask a neighbour to remove anything else that gets dropped on your doorstep.

Keep your lights onConsider putting your lights on a timer so it appears someone’s at home. But if you’re going to do this, make sure you shut the blinds so you’re not obviously lighting up an empty house!

Don’t spread the wordLimit how many people know you’re leaving. You’ll probably need to set up an out of office message on your work email, but avoid doing the same on personal emails or voicemail.

Invest in a safeUse it to store any valuables and important documents that you’re not taking with you. You can buy one at most hardware stores.

Get Contents InsuranceIn case of theft, fire or anything unexpected that happens while you’re away, Contents Insurance will cover the contents of your unit such as furniture, electrical appliances, curtains, carpets and paint finishes on walls and ceilings.

Check your vehiclesAvoid leaving the keys to your car or any other vehicle in obvious places. Remove any valuables stored in your vehicles. For added safety, you could also consider disconnecting the battery.

Switch offAppliances left on standby use electricity all the time, which can add up to a significant amount if you’re going away for several weeks. Turning them off is not only better for the environment but will also eliminate the chance of anything catching fire. Make sure you switch off anything you don’t need.

Iftar with service providersAs a token of appreciation for their hard work in the community, Iftar was organized for all service provider staff on 21 June 2016 at the Emirates Living site office. A selection of popular Indian dishes and desserts was served during the event. Over 450 service provider employees attended the event and an additional 70 Iftar parcels were sent to employees on duty in the community. It was heartening to see the smiles on their faces as they enjoyed the delicious food and the other delicacies on offer after a hard day at work. A goodie bag consisting of essential toiletries was also handed to all attendees as they left, giving them some added cheer.
