From Andy’s Desk…….Lessons From A Dog ..Ephesians 4:32
“As we have therefore opportu-
nity, let us do good unto all men,
especially unto them who are of
the household of faith”
Pets can be a lot of work but also very rewarding. I wouldn't call myself
an animal lover or a dog person, but if I am going to have a pet, it will be
a dog. Usually I accuse my own dog, Libby, of being nothing more than a
drain on my economy. While at PTP without our dog for ten days, I came to
realize just how valuable she really is. You see, all week we had to sweep
the floors in very specific places, namely around where Teddy and Henry
eat. At home this is not really a problem because Libby does a great job of
cleaning up after the two boys.
My dog has given great comfort over the years and at a very sad time
in our lives, made Collin laugh for the very first time. Dogs don't seem to
care how angry you can be or how little attention you may have for them
at various times because they always seem ready to get a good belly rub
and play fetch with the starfish. A dog’s capacity to forgive is surpassed only
by their capacity to forget.
Animals were placed by God for man, not the other way around, and
yet we can learn so much from them. While a dog may not truly have the
capacity to forgive, we not only have that capability but should exercise it
as often as required. Joseph displayed the kind of forgiveness we should
strive to show our Christian brothers. Imagine your own family plotting to
kill you then sell you into slavery instead. When the time came for venge-
ance and justice, Joseph showed mercy and compassion. I doubt Joseph
spent much time hanging around deep holes in the ground with his broth-
ers after their meeting in Egypt, but he displayed the kind of capacity to
forgive that we see Jesus display on the cross.
We may not be able to forget all the injuries the way a dog can, but
we have a much greater calling to forgive the way God can.
Please make welcome our new-est member, Carol Eder. Ad-dress: 1489 Pawnee Street, Or-ange Park, Florida. Phone: 904-625-1211. We are very happy to have Carol become a member at Lakeside. She will be having surgery soon and we want to welcome her to her new home and be there for her as she goes through the coming weeks.
