The Lakota East women’s cross country team continued their dominating, unblemished season by capturing the 2018 GMC teamtitle this past Saturday at Voice of America Park. It is only the 2nd CC league team title in school history (2002). Theachievement was even more dynamic as the Hawks broke a string of 8 consecutive GMC titles by the Mason squad dating backto 2010. East nipped the Comets by a slim 30-32 point total.

Junior Danielle Horter and sophomore Kelsi Harris attacked the individual crown and fell just short to finish 2nd and3rd overall. Horter’s time of 18:17 for the 5k (3.1 mile) championship course ties Lakota East legend Abbie VanFossen’s timefor 2nd fastest in school history. Harris’ time of 18:18 ranks her #4 all-time. Senior Ali Neumeier ran her best career race, placing 6th overall in 18:38 which moves her up 8th all-time at East.

Super Frosh Cali Reynolds placed 7th overall in 18:43 which places her at #9 in school history already! won 20-17 8-3 6-2 Thunderhawkw Upset #2 Seed Mason--Advance to Regional Semi's!

Mason High School’s Dwire Field was the site of a Division I, Region 4 footballupset Friday night. No. 7 seed Lakota East pulled off a 20-17 victory over thesecond-seeded Comets. It was a matchup of Greater Miami Conference rivals, that didn’t meet during the regular season. The Thunderhawks (8-3) have stillnever lost a first-round playoff game — they were 1-1 in 2012 and 2014postseason appearances.

The two teams matched first-quarter touchdowns. Mason’s Logan Dalton scoredfirst on a 3-yard run, while East countered with a 1-yard TD by Jack Dobrozsi.Including in that East drive was a 32-yard pass down the middle of the fieldfrom Sean Church to Evan Yablonsky.

The second period was all about time of possession as the two squads had theball once each. Charles Sipe kicked a 21-yard field goal for the Comets, andthat made it 10-7 at halftime. Church was intercepted in the end zone byJaydon Kaufhold to finish the half.

The Thunderhawks went up 17-10 with 10 third-quarter points. Church ran 2yards for a touchdown and Gavin Myers booted a 31-yard field goal after AdamHundemer recovered a Mason fumble on the kickoff.

The Comets did not go quietly in the fourth period as quarterback Collin Brownled a scoring drive that knotted the game at 17-17. Brown had a big fourth-down conversion deep in East territory, and that was followed by a 7-yardtouchdown scamper by Nolan McCormick.

The Thunderhawks fought back again. Church connected with Yabonsky on acritical third-down play that moved the chains, and Corey Dick contributed a24-yard run. Myers’ 20-yard field goal with 4:02 remaining turned out to bethe difference.

Dobrozsi ran 21 times for 79 yards to lead East’s ground game. Church was 7-of-10 for 92 yards through the air, and all of those receptions were made byYablonsky.

East advances to a regional semifinal against third-seeded Elder this Fridaynight. The game will be back at Mason's Atrium Stadium with kickoff at 7:00.Last Friday night Elder defeated Moeller 35-0 to advance.

Presale ticket information will be available later this week.

lost 34-6 8-4 6-2 Lakota East's postseason run came to an end in the OHSAA Regional Semi-Finals last Friday night. The Thunderhawks (8-4) third playoff appearance fellshort on an unusually cold night at Atrium Stadium in Mason. The ElderPanthers got the best of the Hawks with a 34-6 victory, punching their ticket tothe Regional Final against Colerain.

The nasty cold evening made for a very difficult game as East struggled tocontrol the football. The Elder defense held an offense without a touchdown forthe second consecutive game and third time this season. Lakota East managed130 rushing yards after averaging 273.2 during the regular season.

East's lone score came when Junior linebacker Michael Howard interceptedintercepted an Elder pass on the first play of the second half and returned it 36yards for a Thunderhawks touchdown. The PAT was blocked.

East ends a very good season at 8-4 overall, 6-2 in the GMC good for a thirdplace finish. Congrats to all the players and coaches on a fine season!
