Godly Wisdom Easter is on April 1 st which is also when our country celebrates April Fools Day. With the celebration of these two events on one day, I remember the words of St Paul from I Corinthians 3:19 For the wisdom of this word is folly with God. As long as I am a fool for Christ, I am content. So what does it mean to be a fool for Christ? Let us review the basics of the Christian faith. We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God and trust in the promises Jesus has made to us. Our belief and trust in Jesus Christ is all we need to come into the presence of God. Based on our belief and trust in Jesus we begin a soul searching process which creates the desire to live a good life which makes a man or woman beloved by God. Living the good life is another way of saying a sinner recognizes his or her weaknesses and decides to turn his or her heart to God. Once this happens we begin to realize the kingdom of God is within us and we must seek the love of Jesus above all things. One of the signs of personal transformation is when a person turns from blaming other for their sins and begins an honest study of his or her own shortcomings. Depending on a person’s age and experience each epiphany or revelation will not be the same. For example, in the United Methodist church, around ages 12 to 17 the local church pastor begins asking if the church’s youth would like to attend Confirmation classes. In the most basic sense Confirmation class is an integration process of struggling with what it means to be a Christian. In closing let me leave you with a prayer which I find helpful in keeping me focused on Godly wisdom Father, In Jesus’ name I thank you for filling me with the knowledge of your will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding that I may walk worthy of you Lord, being fruitful in every work and increasing in knowledge of you. Godly Wisdom

Easter is on April 1st which is also when our country celebrates April

Fools Day. With the celebration of these two events on one day, I remember

the words of St Paul from I Corinthians 3:19 – For the wisdom of this word

is folly with God. As long as I am a fool for Christ, I am content. So what

does it mean to be a fool for Christ? Let us review the basics of the

Christian faith. We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God and trust in the

promises Jesus has made to us. Our belief and trust in Jesus Christ is all

we need to come into the presence of God.

Based on our belief and trust in Jesus we begin a soul searching

process which creates the desire to live a good life which makes a man or

woman beloved by God. Living the good life is another way of saying a

sinner recognizes his or her weaknesses and decides to turn his or her

heart to God. Once this happens we begin to realize the kingdom of God is

within us and we must seek the love of Jesus above all things. One of the

signs of personal transformation is when a person turns from blaming

other for their sins and begins an honest study of his or her own

shortcomings. Depending on a person’s age and experience each epiphany

or revelation will not be the same.

For example, in the United Methodist church, around ages 12 to 17

the local church pastor begins asking if the church’s youth would like to

attend Confirmation classes. In the most basic sense Confirmation class is

an integration process of struggling with what it means to be a Christian.

In closing let me leave you with a prayer which I find helpful in

keeping me focused on Godly wisdom –

Father, In Jesus’ name I thank you for filling me

with the knowledge of your will in all wisdom

and spiritual understanding that I may walk

worthy of you Lord, being fruitful in every

work and increasing in knowledge of you.

Amen.

Celebrating 50 years

of the merger between

the Evangelical United Brotherin and Methodist Church

which formed

The Paoli United Methodist Church

As we continue to look forward to December 2018 when we will have a big celebration to mark the 50th

birthday of our Paoli church, here is more information with answers to questions you may have:

How many pastors has the Paoli United Methodist Church had?

We’ve had thirteen pastors. We’ve had men pastors, women pastors, pastors who had children, pastors who

have adopted children, pastors who had no children, and one pastor had twin daughters. The wife of one of

our pastors was a pastor herself. Some of our pastors have been tall, some short, some thin, some not-so-

thin. Some were young, and some were nearing retirement. All have been fully trained as pastors and

counselors to help us through difficult times. All have graduated seminaries, several have their Ph.D. We’ve

had pastors who were very capable musicians. Some had great voices, some could play the guitar, one was

excellent playing the pipe organ. At least two of our pastors have traveled to the Holy Land. We could go on

and on about the many attributes of our 13 great pastors. What do you remember about our pastors?

How are pastors assigned?

The United Methodist Church keeps the church centered on God and not about one specific pastor. For that

reason, pastors are regularly reassigned. The Indiana Bishop works with the District Superintendent and the

local pastor-parish committee. They determine what talents and special features each church needs when

assigning pastors. Our Paoli congregation is a varied group: we have children, young adults, married

couples, singles, widows, widowers, and senior adults. One of the reasons pastors are reassigned is for us to

have the opportunity to hear The Gospel from pastors who come from different backgrounds with a variety

of perspectives.

What have these pastors and their families brought to our congregations?

They have helped us grow in our faith, they’ve helped us grow closer to Christ, they’ve explained the Bible

to us, they’ve offered us solace, they’ve helped us through sickness and deaths, they’ve been with us in our

happy times. They’ve baptized us, and they’ve taken us into church membership. We are very, very

fortunate to have had these 13 pastors:

Rev. Robert Allred Rev. Eldon Brown

Rev. Dale Smith Rev. Dr. Thomas Brooks

Rev. Jerry LeBrun Rev. Dr. Gary Schaar

Rev. Ken Wells Rev. Howard Allen

Rev. Richard Russell Rev. Janice Akers-DuBois

Rev. Pam Cook Rev. Valerie Foughty-Killion

Hello everyone,

This month we will be learning about Easter. We will also be reviewing the alphabet and continue working on letter blends, forming words & rhyming.

We are excited that we will be offering our 4/5 year-old group the option of 2 additional days of Preschool again this coming 2018-2019 year. We have had a lot of success with our 5 day group.

Parents who attend Paoli United Methodist Church have the first opportunity to enroll their children on Sunday, April 1st. Then, any child currently enrolled in Little Creations Preschool can pre-register on Wednesday, April 3rd & Thursday morning, April 5th. Open registration will be Thursday evening, April 5th, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.
