Groundhog Day is a day celebrated on February 2. According to folklore, if it is cloudy when a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day, then spring will come early; if it is sunny, the groundhog will supposedly see its shadow and retreat back into its burrow, and the winter weather will continue for six more weeks. The largest Groundhog Day celebration is held in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. Groundhog Day, already a widely recognized and popular tradition, received widespread attention as a result of the 1993 film Groundhog Day, which was set in Punxsutawney, PA (though filmed primarily in Woodstock, IL) and portrayed Punxsutawney Phil. Presidents’ Day is an American holiday celebrated on the third Monday in February. Originally established in 1885 in recognition of President George Washington, it is still officially called “Washington’s Birthday” by the federal government. Traditionally celebrated on February 22—Washington’s actual day of birth—the holiday became popularly known as Presidents’ Day after it was moved as part of 1971’s Uniform Monday Holiday Act, an attempt to create more three-day weekends for the nation’s workers. While several states still have individual holidays honoring the birthdays of Washington, Abraham Lincoln and other figures, Presidents’ Day is now popularly viewed as a day to celebrate all U.S. presidents past and present. Swimming Pool & Spa
Don’t forget that our community pool is heated. We hope that you will find time this holiday season to enjoy the warm
pool and relaxing spa (even if it is cold outside).
Super Bowl XLVIII is an upcoming American football game between the American Football Conference (AFC) champion Denver Broncos and National Football Conference (NFC) champion Seattle Seahawks to decide the National Football League (NFL) champion for the 2013 season. It is scheduled to be held on February 2, 2014, at MetLife Stadium at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey, with kickoff scheduled for 6:25pm EST. This will be the first Super Bowl to be played outdoors in a cold weather environment, the first played on February 2, the first to be played outdoors on artificial turf (in this case Field Turf) since Super Bowl X at the Miami Orange Bowl, and the first in which two US states (New York and New Jersey) will share hosting duties. It is also the first time since Super Bowl XLIV that the #1 seeds from each conference will meet to decide the championship, and the first time former divisional rivals play each other in the Super Bowl (the Seahawks, after playing in the NFC West division for its inaugural season in 1976, played in the AFC West from 1977 to 2001, only to return to the NFC West in 2002, while the Broncos have played entirely in the AFC West, and the predecessor AFL Western Division, since the team was founded back in 1960).
